The Iraq Thread

</span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote </td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">Just so you know, I wouldnt put it past Bush et al to fake up some evidence 'proving' that Iraq still possesed WMD.

What I dont believe is that it will be done by the regular army.

I dont trust anyone in the Bush Administration any farther than I can throw them. The only man that i believe has even a shred of integrity is Colin Powell, and as I see it he's going to be the fall guy if the war goes poorly for US forces. Namely he didnt do his job well enough to avoid a conflict, and off he goes. Shame really <span id='postcolor'>

I couldn't agree with you more. I'm no fan of the Bush administration or Bush. I voted for Al Gore, not because I liked him, but because I thought he was better than the alternative. I campaigned for John McCain as I feel that he is an honorable man. In fact, I too believe Colin Powell is the only man with integrity in the entire administration, and I took some small comfort with having him as a voice of reason in the White House after the election. I guess I was wrong there. Powell's efforts at taking a more moderate tack have been commendable, but I think he's going to take the fall should the war go badly, as well. The only comfort I take from all of this, and that I currently support the war, is that both McCain and Powell have said its necessary, and I don't think either of them would be saying that simply to toe the party line. Both men are combat veterans with a history of standing up for what they believe in. Let's hope they are right.

</span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote </td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE"> see a LOT of Iraqi forces on the front liens surrendering in short order. It appears that most of the Republican Guards units are farther back, so I would fully expect the front line troops to be less than willing to be rolled over The true test is whether the RG starts surrendering once they are engaged in combat with US/UK forces. And I am not sure how long that will be.

<span id='postcolor'>

The reports I've been getting are that the regular Iraqi Army units near the border are not expected to put up much of a fight, but the military is anticipating a good fight from the Republican Guard units, house to house in the cities. I think those expectations are realistic if not daunting.

Thats the thing, assuming all the iraqi ppl know of the deadline i would guess most of them would be hiding now so if we went in now the fight would be harder for our troops but civilian casualties may be lower confused.gif

There are still journalists in Baghdad, just not many.

Well, I guess we find out what happens now. Although what we would be doing launching airstrikes at dawn... I have no idea.

Really? All I heard him say is that hte Presdent would address the nation at 10:15.

Sounds like a cruise missile attack on a 'Target of Opportunity'

Ari came out and said "the operation had begun", and then BBC came back and said Ari had officially confirmed that the war had begun.

My bad.

I cant see them starting in daylight. That just makes no sense at all.

But then...this is the Bush Administration wink.gif

I can see cruise missile attacks through the day, and airstrikes and arty on the borders of Iraq and such... but a full blown operation setting off in daylight? Yikes.

So it begins. Fox News just said that the White House has just declared that the war has begun. Talk about your time of choosing huh?

Well the thing is, it was a Target of Opportunity. This gives them a chance to hit something they felt was a threat, and to also let the Iraqi military know that the gloves are officially off now, don't get comfortable.

White House confirms that they were cruise missile attacks against targets of opportunity- notably Iraqi leaders. That makes a little more sense, and is probably about the most effective alarm clock ever used.
