Why is it when someone links an article citing "a senoir Iraqi official" it is propoganda and crap.

But if a "senoir Pentagon official" well surely it must be true.

As far as the sattilite phones or cell phones might be targeted...I believe it and suspect it is true.

They could just as easily be coming from Iraqi scouts as journalists. If you expect the Army to stop and find out it ain't gonna happen.

I read a story earlier today that said not only had all flags been ordered removed from units, but all units were to have cell phones etc. turned off.

Because it's Kate Adie reporting and she is telling about a conversation that she personally had. Plain and simple.

Possibly, but it also effectivly stops all non-military controlled news reporting.

The news is reporting that it was 40 GPS guided Tomahawk cruise missiles launched from submarines in the Persian Gulf and Red Sea as well as a small number of F-117 Stealth Fighters using 2000lb bombs with penetrators on them to target a bunker where sneior Iraqi leadership was bivouacked. When asked how senior the target was, the unnamed source inside the Pentagon replied, "very senior." When asked if it was Saddam that was targeted, the source said, "I can't comment any further." Saddam might just have gotten the rudest wakeup call and hopefully the last wakeup call of his life.

Ah, screw the Chinese if they can't take a joke! Seriously, I hope our intel has gotten better since then. Of course we may not know who "got it" for awhile. I doubt the Iraqis are going to come right out with the news that Saddam is taking the dirt nap.

i heard on CNN that there were about 2 F-117's and the cruise missles came from two naval ships. you sure it was 40 missles? seems like an awful lot for one location. they called this a "Decapitation Methood" i really don't want Sadam to be killed i much rather him leave his country as an exile.. but thats only wishful thinking and if its the only way to end this war quickly, w/ no loss of civilians or British and US and other coalition troops but what else is there to do.

Well, if 'very senior' targets did get hit, I'd be willing to bet that a few unlucky human shields got hit as well

Hmm. The MSNBC and BBC live feeds from Baghdad (same camera) are completely out of synch.. they don't match at all. Strange.

Because obviously they're using the same relays.... wink.gif

And actually Foxnews and BBCworld are matching up. I'm watching all the cars run the redlights (seriously).

I suppose when you think there are cruise missiles around, you arent going to worry too much about getting a ticket for running a red light smile.gif

And so were a lot of the Iraqi interviews through journalists. A lot of the Iraqi exiles, in first person no less, were and are disgarded.

</span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote </td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">Woulsn`t they also try and shutdown communications in iraq too? <span id='postcolor'>

Naturally. But cell phones and satillite phones use more than your standard telephone infrastructure. You can bomb the telephone infrastructure, and the cell and satillite phones will still be free to communicate.

True. But journalism has evolved way beyond the journalism of say WW2. Pen, paper, radio. Now we have satillites, cell phones, computers...all geared toward instant communication. And ALL of them have military significance. I journalist with, say, a front line troop formation, and decides to give a story via satillite phone, just announced those troops location. If a lone journalist ventures into the battlefield and does the same, NEITHER side is going to know if that is friend, foe or what.

Same here. The Fox and MSNBC feeds match up inside a second or so. I look at Fox, see car go by, look at my monitor, see same car go by- I think Keanu Reeves put it best:

Whoa... Deja-vu.

The use of 40 Tomahawks (not cheap by any standards) leads me to believe the target was indeed VERY senior, and solidifies the speculation the target was Saddam somewhat.

I'd put my bets on Saddam managing to live for a quite a bit longer. The guy is paranoid and has several doubles. I think finding Saddam (if he choses to hide) will be much more difficult then finding Osama, and AFIK he hasn't been found yet. So I'd be careful with such optimism, you'll just be disappointed.

It's strange. I remember the first live pictures from Baghdad during Desert Storm and thinking 'Whoa!' and being awed and in a way excited.

The daily briefings with the footage of smart bombs were like watching some sort of funky video game. Very cool.

But today I just feel a sadness that things have come to this. And a little digusted by the people who believe this is a good thing, without grasping what war will really entail.

To those of you that feel like that... remember all those times in Flashpoint where you die...

For the people who die in this war, both Iraqi and American, there IS no retry button. And if anything that should give you a little pause to think about what war really means.

Sorry for moralising... I am just a little tired.
