Beefcak 0 Posted October 7, 2002 Looks sweet! Will planes be able to land on it or just choppers?
Prospero 1 Posted October 8, 2002 Thanks Jap for those pics. I also had those;) But please keep these links coming, chaps. Re taking off/landing on the carrier: the Kiev class was designed as a VSTOL/VTOL/helicopter carrier - and, as such, has a fairly short runway. But, let's put it this way - I can land and take off a Cessna, and DKM's Bronco. Judicious use of the rudder is good in place of an air/wheelbrake. I believe I am correct in saying that the Kiev was therefore never fitted with an arrestor/catapult system. But this shouldn't stop people going further. With the advent of v1.85 and the setVelocity command, all sorts of things will become possible. Edit: I suspect that I was wrong regarding the arrestor wire. Naturally therefore, such a function will be included once I have researched this fully. Edit: And yes this can be achieved nicely and very accurately via the use of 3D trigger objects... of which more later. Prospero
Tex -USMC- 0 Posted October 8, 2002 http://www.aeronautics.ru/archive....-01.jpg A little grainy, but you at least get the basic color scheme. Also, someone might want to consider making Yak-36 and Yak-38 V/STOL naval fighters to compliment this carrier.
JAP 2 Posted October 8, 2002 Damit  Well, next try http://web.ukonline.co.uk/aj.cash....es.html => cool photos for anybody making russian stuff http://aeroweb.lucia.it/~agretch/Catalog/Catalog01.html ... Well gtg to work now  Cheers /edit next is not Kiev class, but maybe good for texture idea
JAP 2 Posted October 8, 2002 Should be working ... Inside view
Prospero 1 Posted October 8, 2002 Many thanks Jap and Tex. Nice pics there. Heheh as I was working on the carrier today I was thinking... hmmm I must go to China and photograph the Minsk up close. The Chinese bought the Minsk (a Kiev class carrier) and turned it into a tourist attraction. Gotta love the Chinese... purely from a texturing point of view. teacup 2 Posted October 9, 2002 Imagine my horror, upon seeing this model. Â I had this thing on my shelf since before O2 was released: Yup, it's supposed to be "Baku", the last of the Kiev class. The one with the funny radar on top. Anyway, i'll probably finish it someday, so that we could have a lower res Kiev too (at the moment it has ~1400 faces). The other thing on my shelf is this Yak-38, undergoing texturing. So, by the time you'll release your carrier, you'll probably have something to populate the deck with. Good luck texturing that beast.
Jester983 0 Posted October 10, 2002 Wow. Thats nice. I always thought if you exceeded the 2000 (or whatever poly limit it is) it would crash the game. Very interesting.
deadsoldier 0 Posted October 10, 2002 the ship looks great..but what the hell is this aircraft? the closest i can come up with is the F-1 Mirage.. lol..and its french.... cheers
FlipeR 0 Posted October 10, 2002 OMG!! JAP: I can understand that you cant know how the Kiev's interor looks like - BUT do you realise that on your pic we're looking at the bad-ass Su-33 or Naval Flanker And Kiev class ships were built only for STOV/L planes + heli! Conclusion? We're looking at the hangar deck of Russia's only aircraft carrier - the Admiral Kuznetzov! deadsoldier: wouldnt you rather read again teaCup's post and then TRY again guessing about the aircraft!? prospero: I love the ship, I like the model but I hate high polycounts! You'll have to drasticaly reduce it if we are to use this ship one day in OFP missions... And NO, the Kiev class never used arresting wires - STOVL aircrafts dont need it (STOVL = Short Take Off VERTICAL Landing)! FlipeR
Prospero 1 Posted October 10, 2002 Fliper: think of it as a level in itself. If it means it's only for ninja machines, I'm ok with that. Above all, when starting this thing, I wanted a seriously big and complex structure to interact with in OFP. Think of it as my own private obsession;) And no, I'm not going to produce a whole series of lower resolution LODS for each component. I don't have the time. I posted it for the textures. Besides isn t that an 1143.5 version of the kiev, where they just added a jumpthingy on the front of the boat. So the inside shouldn t look too different. Anyway, bad bad me, i should probably go an hang myself now ( geez, talk about w*nkers on this forum lately, and i m being nice with that expression ) I spend alot of time in finding these pics trying to helpout Prospero, then some %*$# comes along and acts like this is a MAJOR problem that the pic is from another boat. If you know all these things why not helpout Prospero with the right pics or shut up ! Sry mods ! Had to get that of my chest, if you like to ban me, go ahead i don t really care. hover_dude 0 Posted October 10, 2002 i think it is gonna be great actually having some navy power in op flash. by the way i need help, i have 2 models of destroyers (one for east and one for west) i have made but i have never made an addon before i just use 3d modelling at work (designing). the only reason i mention this is if u have bigs ships there are usually destroyers, frigates along with them. so if someone wants to help me do the config and texturing etc mail me on antblake@hotmail.com   ps that aircraft carrier must taken a long time to make !! and good luck texturing
The Sharpshooter 0 Posted October 10, 2002 Very nice TeaCup, keep it going PLZ! ! !
RaptorAce 0 Posted October 10, 2002 yeah, definitely keep it goin, i need that yak
teacup 2 Posted October 11, 2002 prospero: I think that's a very interesting thing you're doing. If you could add real(istic) interior to it and everything, we could have something like a carrier sim in OFP (I'm drooling..). Please bother with those resolution LODs. Maybe now, untextured, it works fine on a GeForce3, but once you're done, and you have all the man and aircraft on it, any graphics card will have a hard time rendering it. Why should it render in detail the front of the boat, when you're at the rear (bow and stern, is it?)? You could consider getting someone to help you, if you don't have the time. Thanks for the encouragement guys. At the moment am working on creating new animations for the game. Hope i'll have something done this weekend. Once that's done, i'll get back to the Yak. -A-V-Trekkie 0 Posted October 11, 2002 New Animations?? Nice ;-) Well what for example? And how?
teacup 2 Posted October 11, 2002 Now I'm really sorry I mentioned it. Mea culpa. Please disregard it. To answer your questions: - it's classified. - once/if i'm done with it, Maya users will (hopefully) be able to create and export animation to OFP.
Prospero 1 Posted October 11, 2002 Regarding LODs, the plan at the moment is to produce two resolution LODs for each .p3d (remember - the carrier is composed of many models). One is full detail, and the second will be suitable for casting shadows and fulfilling geometry/collision detection requirements. Edit - this of course does not count Roadway, Memory LODs etc. Currently the carrier is many objects. However, soon it will be only a few objects and many proxies. It will also be a working ship - not a static. Yes, I know you'll fall off it if it moves too fast, but I am doing this in anticipation of BIS hopefully doing something about adding friction to walkable surfaces. (I'm sure they will - they've gone this far..... so why stop now just when we're having fun?). I suppose I could farm out the .p3d files to the OFP community to produce the lower res LODs, but how many people would actually bother helping...? Then there's quality control... -23rd-_Gen_Raynor 0 Posted October 12, 2002 sounds pretty cool, but one question OFP or resistance which one will this be for or will it be for both
Paladin 1 Posted October 12, 2002 I would imagine only resistance since all it can do in normal ofp is sit in the water.
-23rd-_Gen_Raynor 0 Posted October 12, 2002 I dont care as long as i can use it to wipe out some communist ruskies....no better pleasure then taking out that scum...well maybe castro but thats another game to be made
