Will-my-pc-run-Arma3? What cpu/gpu to get? What settings? What system specifications?

I get about 122 fps at 12700k with the overclocking settings indicated by dadax
memory BL2K16G36C16U4BL 16-20-20-40-CR1 gear1 3900 MHz

cache 4.8

cpu 5.1

malloc GJK_Ampersand_Edition_Tbbmalloc_v202150_AVX512.dll

on a Ryzen 5900x with the same memory 3733 I had a maximum of 90fps

Great news! That is a very good result, your CPU frequency is a little bit lower etc.

-Which mainboard did you use?
-Are you 100%  sure AVX512 is really on - sometimes you can enable it in the mainboard settings but it is turned off in your AIDA64 screenshot or in CPU-Z ? This happended to a friend of mine. Just asking to be 100% sure, from my estimate of you values I think it is on.
Will try to emulate your settings with my system.

This seems pretty good.

So do you think intel is still the way to go for this series ?

I'm upgrading some time soon, not sure which way to go to be honest.

NEW FPS: 140.7 AVG - 102 MIN (This value is the bigger story, passed the 100 Min fps wall)
Just a logical result.

I think 145 maybe possible.

I would wait for zen 4 at the end of the year, according to rumors there will be a 3D cache. But at the moment, alder lake is showing tremendous performance. For me personally, this is enough, I can safely play on a 3840x1080 120Hz monitor with good graphics quality, and now the fps almost never drops below a comfortable value (80 fps) even though I use not the fastest malloc (CMA_x64 works with battleye)

Did you test the 12900k with emulation of my cpu and memory overclock? or did you use 12700k for that?

Yeah, I hear what your saying, I will probably wait until later in the year.

We play mainly arma2 so I'm in no rush.

Hi,

Im going to buy new pc, what do you recommend for ArmA 3: KOTH?

Should I go for 5800x or 12600k?

MY point of view:
-12700KF FTW (budget) 12900KF (every last %)
-fast RAM (latency! not just frequency)
-and a gpu better than 3060TI

Have you tried playing Antistasi or Liberation with this build?

Okay so, This is what I'm saving for, I didn't add a GPU cause I have a EVGA 1050 Ti SC, And I'm on their waiting list, BUT I have two sets of ram on this list, And I'm not sure which to get, One is a $340 cl14 G.skill at 3600MHz 14-14-14-34 2x16 GB kit,

The other is a $300 G.skill Neo cl16 4000MHz 16-16-16-36 2x16GB kit. Would the cl14 be worth the extra $40? https://pcpartpicker.com/list/JHgV6r

the extra 40 bucks are totally worth it in ARMA 3 - latency is everythign with a 12900K or similar in the CPU limit.
I didn t play antistasi I just missed a Liberation but it is nice to play in huge COOPs 40-90 participants and 60-100 fps average around 85  fps everyday
P.S.: capped at 100 FPS due to my monitor 3440x1440@100hz

What is minimum windows version for the top 2 allocators in the above benchmark?

@Sertica I will answer here to the question you open elsewhere 😕

I will quote your question ...

Quote

I'm looking at parts for a new PC:

ASUS PRIME B660M-A D4

Intel i3-12100F (or i5-12400F if that is not in stock by the time I order)

CORSAIR Vengeance LPX 16GB

Back to basics to choose hardware to play Arma 3

- a fast and efficient processor with a large L3 memory cache,

- a fastest RAM kit with aggressive timings,

- the fastest and most stable disk storage available

At present, my Arma 3 rig is based upon AMD Ryzen 5 5600X/ AMD RX5700_8GB/Ballistix 32 GB (2x16 GB DDR4 3600 C16 /M.2 1TB+SSD M.2 500GB+SSD M.2 500GB.

The AMD Ryzen 5 5600X is a good asset for paying Arma 3 as seen here

.

If I had to change configuration here and now, without much hesitation, I would opt for an Intel platform centered on a Core i5-12600KF, the Max Turbo at 4.90 GHz gives it an edge !

If the Core i5-12600KF turns out to be too expensive, the best fallback should be a Core i5-12400, I find the performance of the i3 relatively limited in comparison.

I3 does not exist in Canada anyway.  i5-12600K is $360.  i5-12400F $230.  Due to severe fibromyalgia my only income is tax rebates.  The main points of contention now are amount of RAM and Windows version.  Basically, can I get away with 16GB without disk swapping?  Evidently MIMALLOC or AMPERSAND is the way to go with allocators.  But I need to know what Windows they require.  I'd rather stick with W7 if possible.  I already hate Windows enough as it is and the stories of bloat and forced stuff in newer versions scare me.

Sorry for answering late, I am not following the forum as much as before.
You need to ensure that your Windows Version has the ability to secure/to lock pages for the mallocs to work.
My Advice: If you alerady have a working version with invoice of W7, I would buy an upgrade to W11 from an e-tailer, W10 is also an option that you could definitely use, W7 idk.
Why W 11 - there will cetrainly be some general performance improvements with future updates that MS  will keep W11 exclusive and those might even help in Arma 3.

Hi all! perhaps someone will be interested in a test on a laptop with 12700h :))

i get 65 fps win 11

12700h

1x16 gb ddr5 4800 cl40

Mux switch - gpu

Rtx 3060 140w

i think if i add another dimm my frame rate will go up to 80-90 fps with good cooling

@Sertica I will try to address your points of concern : the amount of RAM and the version of Windows.

- 16 GB as a 2 x 8 GB kit is more than enough. My own pick will be Crucial Ballistix Kit 16GB 3600 MHz C16.

- Support for Windows 7 ended on January 14, 2020. It means that Microsoft is no longer providing updates and Security updates /fixes. Continuing to use Windows 7 is not a satisfying option.

Microsoft will continue to support  Windows 10 until October 14, 2025. In my opinion, the right option is to change to Windows 10 64 bit.

There will always be time to upgrade to Windows 11 when Microsoft has taken care of all those little things that can make it unpleasant to use on a daily basis.

Any word on getting someone with a Ryzen 5800x3d to test? Obviously not downgrading from a 12900k, but could be a good indicator for next Ryzen generation switch.

My friend has got a Ryzen7 5800x with a rtx3080, said it runs arma 3 great, even though he still plays arma 2 with us.

Intel 12th gen 140 FPS

Intel 11th gen 115 FPS

Ryzen 5th gen 100 FPS

→ So yes, since Ryzen 5th Gen you get a good experience in Arma 3.

To all you guys: 5800X3D test in YAAB still would be great!
