Will-my-pc-run-Arma3? What cpu/gpu to get? What settings? What system specifications?

Help! I just bought a new PC with Win 7 and an Nvidia GTX 770, but I can't find the Nvidia Control Panel!

On my old PC it could be brought up by simply right-clicking the Desktop, but nothing happens when I do that on my new PC.

I've looked in the Nvidia file on my system but I still can't find a way to open its Control Panel.

Any suggestions? I need the Nvidia Control Panel so I can fine-tune display settings etc, and there's also a magic button in there that I need to kill any picture stretching on certain resolutions.

Had a look here:

c:\Program Files\NVIDIA Corporation\Control Panel Client\nvcplui.exe

or

c:\Program Files (x86)\NVIDIA Corporation\Control Panel Client\nvcplui.exe

:)

Have my GTX Titan running oc'ed for 7 month or so @ 1202/7400 MHz (355 GB/s) 1.21 V with EVGA ACX cooler and EVGA backplate.

16 GB RAM Corsair Dominator 2133 MHz 9-11-10-27 2T 1.5 V @ 10-11-11-30 1T 1.65V

860 Watt Corsair AX860i PSU

Corsair Carbide Air540 case with 3x120 mm front intake, 1x120 mm rear outtake and 2x120 mm up outtake.

SSD

Playing essentially MP @ 1680x1050.

I think that so far everything is ok with my rig. But my CPU is an old i5-760 4x2.8 GHz @ 4x4.066 GHz 1.34 V.

I plan to switch later to 1920x1200 and wanna record my gaming sessions in MP.

2 questions:

will i7-4930k oc'ed to 6x4.4-4.6 GHz give me better FPS in MP (PvE oriented missions like Domination) while recording compared to i7-4770k @ 4x4.4-4.6GHz?

will i7-4930k oc'ed to 6x4.4-4.6 GHz unleash MORE my oc'ed GTX Titan in MP (PvE oriented missions like Domination) compared to i7-4770k @ 4x4.4-4.6GHz?

6 cores won't do much of sweet FA where A3 is concerned, it will help with the Frostbite engine (BF series, NFS) and U4 (among others) but I didn't notice a difference between 3960X and 4960X in A3 tbh.

Where recording is concerned, I've never actually tested but I suspect it will have little or no impact based on my experience with other software in that regard.

I wouldn't switch to X-79 now at any rate, X-99 is not far off and while I doubt it will do that much for performance in games, it's a nice platform with DDR4, SATA 6 across the board etc.

Thx.

I will than wait for i7-4790k 4x3.6 GHz base and 4x4.0 GHz boost to launch in mai.

So you're saying fps is actually higher on the same server with the same mission around the same time with higher resolution, or different servers, missions or times? That's an important detail.

So I want to buy this game but I want to know if anyone has played this game on a boot camped macbook pro 2012. It is a 2.4 GHz Intel Core i5, 4 GB of memory and 500 ram and Intel HD Graphics 3000 384 MB. And I split everything equally when I partitioned my computer. So has anyone played with this/ what were your results. I play Dayz and it looks great even though I put the settings on pretty low. I have heard Arma3 pushes your computer to its limits.

why is that?

I wish I had a way to just try it for free then I could make a decision whether or not I should spend the 60 bucks on it

My current CPU is more than twice as strong as yours and I can max the game with about 3200 meters object distance and 50 fps average in small missions.

My old CPU that was only about as strong as yours could only do medium-high settings with about 800 meters object distance and 50 fps average in small missions though.

However that was with a 560 Ti 1024MB that seems to be ten times stronger than Intel HD Graphics 3000 384... your graphics card just isn't made for gaming at all.

Some benchmarks online show that decent games at least will start up with an Intel HD Graphics 3000 but then with a much stronger CPU.

If you can play DayZ you should be able to play ARMA on the lowest settings somewhere about but I doubt it would be enjoyable.

Thanks for the response. Yeah I can play Dayz on very low settings. It's such a shame, I can't install a better graphics card. I love my Mac, especially for the things I used to do, and for school. But now that I've come across some games that I feel would be awesome I can't play them. But yeah I'm just happy Dayz works, that's the main reason I partitioned my Mac to begin with.

Hopefully one day I will get a PC for gaming and still have a Mac to do all the things I love about the Mac.

Yeah, Macs are good for creative work but at least that one isn't built for gaming.

A new high-end computer costs about $1000, at least.

Based on a quick check:

Both CPUs are comparable in strength to 6 year old CPUs and about half as strong as a brand new $250 CPU and the cards aren't good for gaming.

Additionally 4GB memories is a minimum and may cause issues when playing on the bigger map in the game, Altis.

What’s your screen size, operating system and what’s your budget?

A brand new gaming computer without any compromises but also without extras starts at about $1000. Can go cheaper too naturally.

That's what I thought when I saw you were talking about i5 and i7. I do not have a fixed budget yet and no screen neither (I only had laptop until now).

After some more digging I found this for 1200 euros, is it worth it ?

- Intel® Core™ i7-4770 procesor 4. generácie Intel® Haswell

- 8GB HyperX DDR3

- 1TB

- NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760 2 GB

- Windows 7 Home Premium

Also I am thinking about a 1680x1050 screen (included in price given above around 200 euros).

That's a high-end gaming computer. I'd say the computer is worth about €1000.

A 4670, 760, 8GB memories, 1TB HDD, motherboard, chassis and supply unit costs ~€775, I believe. About €111 extra each for an OS and i7 over i5 adds up to €1000.

Note that you don’t NEED an i7-4770K though. An i5-4670K is just as good for gaming and costs about €110 less, money which is better spent on a €110 SSD.

So if you can select the components yourself, do that.

My prices are for a new computer in parts too so if you’re looking at a second hand computer then you should start offering something like 10-20% less… even if you do buy it at full price you’ll save money because you won’t have to spend anything on getting it professionally assembled in case you can’t do that yourself but I’m pretty sure whoever is selling it will be willing to sell it at €100 less than store price so you may as well try to squeeze that out of him then.

I’m translating the costs from Swedish prices which is why I’m using some odd numbers above.

Overall that looks very good however I would go with a Full-HD monitor: 1920x1080 or 1920x1200. Your computer can handle it and it’s so much nicer to both work and play games on.

A decent monitor costs about €100 and a good one €220 to €330 by the way.

Hi - I already own Arma III for a while but didn't play much until recently, but got rather hooked now- so here's my issue:

My PC is rather old (~2 years), but was rather decent for its time. Arma III auto-detected all maxed settings (except for viewing ranges) and for the most part, runs decent enough for me on these settings - except when overlooking Kavala in Adapts first mission which gives me a huge performance drop. It's the same whenever I enter towns, especially when in a car.

I assume the latter relates to me running an SLI Setup, which ends up in broken PIP rendering and turning PIP off helps performance, yet downgrading any other settings doesn't seem to improve my performance to any noticable degree. As you might understand, I also don't want to downgrade my settings as performance outside the mentioned situations is not great but decent enough to be very well playable.

One thing I should mention is the fact that I run the game on 6040*1080 resolution (bezel corrected 24" triple head) and that it's most noticable when I move my head using TrackIR, but I assume that's just because it's the most irritating about it.

Also note that I can run e.g. Skyrim on maxed settings, numerous graphics enhancement mods and texture packs absolutely smoothly - with 3dvision enabled on top, so I'd expect Arma III to run decently in simple 2d (which I have to due to the disappointing lack of 3D support).

Specs:

Core i7-3930K CPU @ 3,2 Ghz

Asus P9x79 deluxe

16 GB Corsair XMS3 DDR3-1600 CL9 (4*4 Gb quad channel kit)

Geforce GTX 680 2gb *2 (SLI)

1 240 GB Kingston HyperX 3k SSD

2*seagate 2GB 7200 RPM (raid 0 array)

Soundblaster Recon 3d

OS: Windows 7 Ultimate

CPU and GPUs watercooled

I've read some guides on tweaking Arma 3 performance, but nothing really helped, so I thought I'd ask here if these specific performance drops are a known issue and if there are workarounds before I overclock the hell out of my system.

Any help is appreciated :)

Mkay.

Starting off 2 years isn't old at all. 5 years is quite old. Your CPU shouldn't be significantly different to the best new ones. 680s = 770s. There’s nothing at all in your box I would upgrade.

The only wrong thing about any of your specs other than details (2x8>4x4GB memories, marginally) is that you’re apparently not overclocking your CPU?

Your CPU is 3.2 GHz with a 3.8 GHz turbo. Mine’s 3.5 GHz with a 3.9 GHz turbo and based on one test some time ago that I’m not too certain a constant 4.0 GHz clock made a big difference compared to having 3.9 GHz turbo. It’s worth trying out and since you have water cooling you should even be good to overclock to maybe 4.4 GHz using perfectly safe automatic software such as Command Centre. So definitely overclock some.

So about your issues 6040x1080 is massive and I would expect all sorts of issues on screens that big in any non-supermassive game such as Battlefield or Skyrim. Anyways everyone has stuttering in cities and if it’s not caused by the massive amounts of geometry causing a graphics strain then it’s caused by a CPU strain because of bad game optimization. Picture-in-picture is also slow as syrup for mostly everyone, not only you or SLI-users. Again, a lot more geometry.

If you’re testing in a small singleplayer mission such as “Showcase: Infantryâ€, watching over Girna or whatever and changing any and all settings doesn’t make any fps difference then there’s obviously nothing you can really do. There are no effective tweaks. There ARE tweaks, tons of them though few to none have been shown to do anything.

Note that all in-game settings mostly affect your graphics cards and not your CPU, except for object draw distance I would assume. So if you change everything and the fps stays the same then it’s your CPU bottlenecking which is the case for the most of us due to bad optimisation.

So not much you can do it seems.

You haven’t said ANYTHING about how you’re doing absolutely though. What’s your fps?

Measure in small singleplayer missions, or some big ones if you want, however fps depends a lot of mission. Missions with ineffective scripts can make a big difference and in multiplayer there’s a whole host of things that matter other than your specs.

Just for archiving sakes, I'm using a Clevo P370SM laptop with 16GB 1600Mhz memory, overclocked i7 4700MQ and SLI GTX765m's aswell as a modified Prema mod BIOS. Average fps on Ultra with 1300 view distance is 80fps. However, this does ofc fluctuate heavily depending on the scenario.
