    The Nvidia DLC

All my gaming PC GPUs except the first (Orchid Rightous 3d) have been Nvidia and I currently use a 2 year old GTX 680 SLI system. Voted no because it's in BIs and Nvidias mutual interest to get their act together and release these fixes for free. BI get to show off what their engine is capable off, so more people buy their games and Nvidia get to show off what their cards can do, so more people buy their GPUs. I don't see why I should pay for that - if anything, charging me money for those fixes would finally drive me away either from BI or Nvidia, because I don't really like to give my money to companies ripping me off.

    Third person mode & realism

Meh - this discussuion is kind of moot. BI won't remove 3rd person as they'd lose most of the arcade playerbase. Those claiming that it's just a matter of personal preference neglect the fact that on servers allowing third person, it's a gamechanging advantage close to a wallhack, so not using it at least in certain situations is a crippling disadvantage. Depending on the setup (e.g. a 15" 3:4 CRT) 1st person may be unrealistically limiting the FOV, but with a proper widescreen solution and a headtracking device, this can easily be solved. Personally, I use 3 1080p 24" screens and headtrack IR, so limited FOV isn't an issue. Still, I exclusively play on hardcore servers as I don't want to play in 3rd person and still lack the ability to magically peek above walls and around corners without leaving cover, which presumably everyone on the server constantly does. Just a pity there are so few of them.

    Altis Life RPG

I'd like to know as well - played some altis life for the first time since months yesterday and quite enjoyed it in its current state. Now all I need is a first person only, no crosshair server, yet I can't find one...

    New Player friendly hardcore servers?

@Spanishsurfer: Thanks - I'll check them out. Problem is I'm CET, so your peak time begins at 00:00h for me. Whilst I stay up late (I.E. I can check them out, although with a bad ping), I work a fulltime job starting at 08:00, so in the long run, it's not really optimal for me. My bad - forgot to provide that information. On a side note: I didn't try too many of the vehicles, but those I've tried all had interiors (Cars, SUVs, Helicopters and Planes) - so allowing third person just because MBTs have none seems a bit exaggerated to me. As a matter of fact, my disdain for third person stems from playing Flightsims - any modes allowing for third person are just gamebreaking in these games. @Hurts72: That sounds really interesting - just started playing it yesterday and I definitely will check them out.

    New Player friendly hardcore servers?

Thanks - Their settings sound exciting - I especially love the no respawn rule (long time Eve player, so I'm all for more meaningful deaths), but right now I feel I'm way too bad to join there as I don't want to ruin anyones evening with my inexperience. After having played Quakeworld & Q3RA in clans as well as operation Flashpoint, I have been on a 10+ years hiatus when it comes to FPS games - and that's how bad I am. Bookmarked the thread though - I definitely want to get there once I've learned some more. Edit: Oh - and on a sidenote after watching video footage from your servers, you apparently allow third person view - I assume you thought it was irrelevant on coop missions, therefore promoting it and I don't blame you for it. However, in the the short to medium run, even having third person players on my own team is inacceptable. But thanks nonetheless - I'll check it out to learn some more basics before I find a proper first person only environment.
  6. I guess this has been risen quite often, yet couldn't find anything valuable on the topic: Are there any servers with applied hardcore rules welcoming noobs? Reasoning: I strongly dislike third person games. In my eyes it's arcade gameplay, completely obliterating any immersion. Now I could just play on any server and use first person myself, however as a noob, I'm bad at the game already and facing enemies that commonly use something akin to a wallhack (spotting above walls and around corners) on top of that is most likely going to be enourmously frustrating. Please note that this is not a first vs. third person discussion. I don't want to use third person and I don't want to fight people using third person whilst being a beginner myself, that's all. Thanks for any tips :).
  7. Thank you both Sneakson and Tony - looks like I'm slowly getting there - ran into overheating issues when raising the voltage quite soon, which I deemed rather odd, given I have a rather decent Aquacomputer cooling - checked the case and it looked like a cat had crawled in between the case fans and the radiator and died there (my cigar smoking habit does such things to cooling systems), so I disassembled the whole thing and cleaned it up, flashed my bios and did a fresh install whilst I was at it. My CPU temp is now 12°C cooler and the case fans run 30% slower than before when idling and I'm running rather stable 4.4 Ghz, HT on at 1.35 V (needs some more stress-testing), but I'm hopeful I can reach stable 4.6 Ghz. Anyway - you both were on spot - my CPU was bottlenecking and the interesting bit is that now that bottleneck is less of an issue, changing graphics settings actually does have meaningful impact on performance so the resulting FPS increase goes well beyond the increase just from the OCd CPU. Thank you both :). Oh - and on a side note: Yeah - you're right Tony - at least my idea was that getting a 4*4 Quad channel kit would harmonise best with a quad channel CPU (didn't really check any benchmarks though, but it seemed logical to me).
  8. Well - it's probably only old in my eyes - between 1996 and 2010, I used to upgrade on a yearly basis (Mobo, CPU Ram in one year, GPU(s) every other, but you'ew right - atm, I wouldn't upgrade as the increase in performance over my current rig probably isn't worth the investment. Yeah - I will - I used to overclock my rigs for ages, with this one, I didn't deem it necessary so far and I enjoyed the extreme stability. Thanks for the info - good to know it's not only me having these problems. As for my performance - I haven't run any benchmarks but it varies a lot - if I'm just around in the landscape on Altis, I'd say it's in the mid 40's, but if I'm in a firefight in a town, it can drop to ~15 (usually with all TPW modules enabled). Well - I'm off to overclock my PC now - thanks for the elaborate reply.

Arma 3: Community wishes & ideas- DISCUSSION

    - Detach weapon switching from the action menu and enable a simple use key which actually works precisely on what the view points at. - Proper SLI Support, 3dvision and VR support in the medium run. - Working voice commands for AI troops and giving them the ability to act somewhat autonomously - I shouldn't have to tell the medic to heal wounded team members if possible, just as I shouldn't have to tell them to restock ammunition and medpacks after a firefight and no spotted enemies (granted - minor issues for MP, but it deters new players like me from getting into the game, as the somewhat decent subjects amongst us try to learn the game in SP before annoying the heck out of people on MP servers with our inexperience).
  10. Hi - I already own Arma III for a while but didn't play much until recently, but got rather hooked now- so here's my issue: My PC is rather old (~2 years), but was rather decent for its time. Arma III auto-detected all maxed settings (except for viewing ranges) and for the most part, runs decent enough for me on these settings - except when overlooking Kavala in Adapts first mission which gives me a huge performance drop. It's the same whenever I enter towns, especially when in a car. I assume the latter relates to me running an SLI Setup, which ends up in broken PIP rendering and turning PIP off helps performance, yet downgrading any other settings doesn't seem to improve my performance to any noticable degree. As you might understand, I also don't want to downgrade my settings as performance outside the mentioned situations is not great but decent enough to be very well playable. One thing I should mention is the fact that I run the game on 6040*1080 resolution (bezel corrected 24" triple head) and that it's most noticable when I move my head using TrackIR, but I assume that's just because it's the most irritating about it. Also note that I can run e.g. Skyrim on maxed settings, numerous graphics enhancement mods and texture packs absolutely smoothly - with 3dvision enabled on top, so I'd expect Arma III to run decently in simple 2d (which I have to due to the disappointing lack of 3D support). Specs: Core i7-3930K CPU @ 3,2 Ghz Asus P9x79 deluxe 16 GB Corsair XMS3 DDR3-1600 CL9 (4*4 Gb quad channel kit) Geforce GTX 680 2gb *2 (SLI) 1 240 GB Kingston HyperX 3k SSD 2*seagate 2GB 7200 RPM (raid 0 array) Soundblaster Recon 3d OS: Windows 7 Ultimate CPU and GPUs watercooled I've read some guides on tweaking Arma 3 performance, but nothing really helped, so I thought I'd ask here if these specific performance drops are a known issue and if there are workarounds before I overclock the hell out of my system. Any help is appreciated :)
  11. That's interesting - I get flawed 3d effects with some shaders - dust storms lead to double vision, edges of walruses in water and with lights turned on give me a strange effect and the carriers shadow looks similar to the broken Skyrim water shaders that were fixed by HeliX. I'm using the 3dvision driver that comes with WHQL 306.23 and don't have any issues with other games. Quite a letdown as I always make sure games offer decent 3dvision support before purchasing and checked if CC does.

Trying very hard to love this

Hmm - yeah I agree. I wont delete it (is HD space still an issue for people nowadays? I'm surprised...), but in the current state, the game is unplayable for me - going to check back after a few patches.

    PC Bug List

Could you elaborate? I'm using the same driver and cards and don't have any SLI-related problems to the best of my knowledge.

    Two Monitors

Three screens here as well - actually I was pleasantly surprised at first because unlike most other games, CC doesn't have issues with a stretched UI that so many games have. Unfortunately, ultra-widescreen resolutions lead to objects randomly not being rendered, which is worse than a stretched UI as for the latter, there's usually a fix available for most games. I'm afraid the issue with CC can't be fixed by a third party as easily...
  15. Seconded. I also agree with Demonens post. In addition to what he said, I don't get why so many rocks and low walls were added to the maps if the AI can't cope with them to begin with. They're annoying even in manual control and don't add anything to gameplay as far as I can see.
