France General

Recommended Posts

How does the general population in france view the Napoleonic era?

My feeling is that nobody really cares (or even know very well what happened). Napoleon himself is seen as a great man of the past, as much as well known French Kings (François 1er or Louis XIV).

Some more educated people know that his foreign policy was very agressive (and defensive at the same time), that he was a kind of dictator but that he did an amazing amount of reforms in France from which we are still benefiting.

I don't know anybody that thinks that a Belgium coin about Waterloo is an insult towards France.

It appears that Le Pen's National Front received 9 millions euro of "gratitude" from First Czech-Russian Bank (Russian bank) for backing the russian annexation of Crimea.

Shame on them!

Is anybody surprised? Russia is funding a lot of far right, or outright fashist groups across europe.

To be fair it isn't a gift, but a loan. FN is struggling to get loans from more 'official' banks.

Thats maybe an additional interesting article to this toppic:

The bogus think tank behind Russia's 'infiltration' of Europe myth

http://uk.businessinsider.com/russia-infiltration-of-europe-far-right-is-a-myth-2015-2?r=US

An article from BI UK from mid February which is actually about Russia and funding far right groups, The National Front was mentioned aswell as a known fact. Thy did research about some questionable sources, some claims are called nonsens other known points are listed.

The First Czech-Russian Bank is mentioned aswell, it belongs to a russian Oligarch but has no ties to the government which was reported in this article.

Lets see if more details show up in the media about the sources and claims from these hackers and if it will bring more light in this case.

Interesting, but why? Can you elaborate more on this?

I don't know exactly. That's what FN is saying. They always had financial troubles, they were even forced to sell their headquarter building in St Cloud. They are a small party with expensive ambitions, but i'm quite sure main commercial banks don't want to see their name being associated with this party.

So you think it's because of political views financial institutions don't wasn't to associate with FN? In my view it shows how banking system is politically driven if FN has to look for funding in Russia or other ex-Soviet states.

Financial institutions literally ruling the world, this what is happening. You support gay marriages and abortion, ok here's your money. You are anti-immigration and generally conservative, no no we don't want trouble try somewhere else... And here comes Putin with his money. It's wrong to think this country has low reserves and can't influence financially - in my opinion Russia still can.

for sure it is like you said,

than it only opens doors for Russian intel,

political corectness is represented by short-sight people who do not see far consequences neither in social-taxation-issues nor in counter-intel issues

Russia is not blind or stupid - they know our problems very well, even more than our press dare to speak

(Bbc)Top al-Qaeda militant Nasser al-Ansi 'killed' in Yemen

A US air strike in Yemen has reportedly killed Nasser al-Ansi, a top militant of al-Qaeda in the Arab Peninsula.

Site Intelligence, a US militant monitoring group, cites an Aqap statement as saying Ansi was killed in April in the port city of Mukalla.

There is no US confirmation. Ansi had appeared in a number of Aqap videos.

In one, he claimed the group was behind the attack on the offices of French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo in January in which 12 people were killed.

French special forces have killed four jihadists, including two leaders, in a raid in north Mali, the French defence ministry says.

One of those killed was Amada Ag Hama, suspected of the kidnapping and murder of two French journalists in 2013.

He is said to be a commander of in al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb.

Aside from the murders of Radio France International journalists Ghislaine Dupont and Claude Verlon, Amada Ag Hama was also said to be involved in the death of aid worker Michel Germaneau and the abduction of four French nationals in Niger, both in 2010.

"France has a long memory," said Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius.

Surprise, surprise...

That remembers me when:

(Computer World) Is French outrage against U.S. spying misplaced?

The anger expressed by French officials following revelations that the U.S. National Security Agency gathered data on millions of phone calls involving French citizens appears misplaced considering reports of the country's own record of domestic and international surveillance.

For my part, i don't think it is misplaced this time. France officials being spied by NSA with the help of German services show how stupid and useless those information services are, spying with no other reason than they can do it.

Funny thing is that the Germans get spied on by the US with the help of the Brtish, who helps the US to spy on them?

Yes and no. NSA is/was a crazy machine out of control, aimed at spying everything they can, with or without valid purpose.
