(SMA) Specialist Military Arms

I can't download the new version too. Blank page

I'm sure it will be fixed soon :)

Regarding custom CFG's..I cant answer that.I dont make mods, so am not completely clear on how custom cfg's work if no part of the original mod is used. But I would definitely ask the SMA team before doing anything.

To customise it to Vanilla A3 is a massive task, linking to all the sounds, accessories, scopes etc.

The guy would be better off creating his own addon from all the models out there on the web, rather than ripping this one apart, then asking what to do next, it doesn't work that way.

You have got to be structured in your approach, considering this is almost 1GB, to change stuff to Vanilla settings would be a massive step backwards, not too sure how the guys who created this behemoth would feel having their stuff used with just vanilla sounds etc.

I dont want to change sounds or something cosmetics. It's more firepower thing. Accuracy/range/weight
But now testing SMA Weapons they fit better with Scopes than vanilla weapons. This is weird.

Maybe BIS weapons have to be fixed not addon

It's not really weird at all, these are custom weapons, and custom scopes, designed for the weapons in the addon, the guy who does the ballistics for this addon, is one of the best out there, I'd take his calculations over BiS default any day of the week.

As for weights etc, it doesn't do anything really, you don't get tired it's just numbers for the game engine to crunch.

I don't think you quite understand that the guys making such mods are mostly working off real data sheets.

Like I said, for what you want to do, you're better off creating your own addon, instead of actually trashing this one and changing someone's hard work to make it more "arcadish"

Start small, one weapon at a time, add more, add accessories, scopes, suppressors etc, personally I still think you're being very disingenuous to the creators of this addon, by asking them if it's okay to re-write their stuff, as it's not as good as BiS's, that's maybe not what you mean, but best of luck in getting approval.

I think the ASOR website was getting hammered by everyone trying to download  :P still trying to download it, but getting a "ERROR 502 Connection timed out" still.

I dont understand the barrel lenght dont make effect on these weapons. For example AAC MPW Carbine, Short and Long have the same range and muzzle velocity.

The long barrel aways have much range or i am wrong?

I want to understand the parameters on  these mods. I think the creator have much more knowledge than me. What i understand is numbers and graphics, bohemia show me that addons don't

You can't ever go off those values listed in the sliders. It's not equal to actual values set within the mod. Test the effective range of each and I'm sure you'll see a difference. Same with armor/capacity for vests. Do you own testing. Don't trust the BI user interface to display things correctly.

I made the test. The max zeroing is the same for AAC MPW Carbine, Short and Long. With the nightstalker, zeroing at 800m the bullet path is the same. Same hit position too

Bohemia's sliders are totally wrong. Furthermore, Bohemia's ballistics are notoriously wonky, compare the normal 5.56 to Spartan's 5.56 and becomes rapidly clear that Bohemia did little to no research. If you feel the ballistics in SMA are off, you're allowed voice that opinion, but being incredibly rude about it isn't doing you any favors.

Barrel length doesn't effect range much, in real life the M16A4 has a 20 inch barrel, the M4A1 has a 14.5 inch barrel, but that only translates to a 50m effective range difference. Which is why modern armies are all either already using Carbines, or are transitioning over to carbines.

So anyone know a good place to test actual ballistic strength etc?

Sorry if i'm being rude. I don't want that. Just talk about how mod and game works.

Raw data is your friend.

https://forums.bistudio.com/topic/163601-arma-iii-ballistics-overhaul-wip/

But in general, if the mod maker has used proper ballistics data, every 5.56 carbine should be ballistically identical. A 5.56 bullet coming out of a 14.5 inch barrel doesn't care if the barrel is from a G36 or an M4A1 or an FN MK16.

I read about that. So basically all weapons do the same job?

By the way the NiArms Aug is the best weapon mod i see.

I know what you mean... sometimes I see some inconsistencies with weapon mods, for exemple some add-ons show the 7.62x39 with lower impact than 5.45x39.

But I trust the modders, and usualy their weapons feels great in gameplay. SMA is a terrific mod, actualy my favorite (I also like Niarms and RHS). So, don't trust the arsenal impact bar.

I wouldn't say that. Assault rifles are fundamentally relatively short range weapons that are designed to win firefights through suppression. When the average infantryman has trouble consistently hitting a moving target in combat conditions at 400M, having a 500 meter maximum point target range instead of a 550 meter maximum point target range is irrelevant.

Arsenal bars inconsistency make me crazy. I have a problem i know

Maybe a PDF showing diference between weapons will help. I like to use diferent weapons to diferent tasks. Arsenal showing such values dont help me so much

5.45x39 is much faster then 7.62x39. This is why you can't trust the Bohemia bars. They're deriving "impact" from muzzle velocity without considering projectile weight.

Maybe Bohemia fix that if we make a request. Or that is impossible?

I dont know the limitations on ArmA code

This explains A LOT. Thanks the clarification.

Just don't use the bars, make your weapon decisions based on real factors.

@jacobs

No problem, there's a lot of misunderstandings about ballistics out there.
