Really nice work, cant wait until the first public release. Will it be possible to place units from this mod in the editor directly or will you have to place a vanilla unit and assign uniforms and gear to them?

EDIT: Also is there a chance of getting a new weapon or vehicle showcase video anytime soon?

Oh goodness, no. We won't make you go to that much trouble to use our equipment. We will have custom factions and many different units that use all the different types of gear we will have. As well as crates that contain the equipment so you can experiment with the different types.

We should have a video made as soon as we finish getting the ODST, Marine, Army soldiers, the Warthog and a few more weapons in game.

I think they're well beyond that stage where mods tend to die out. One thing that's going to help preserve this mod I think is an active community.

I know there's a private Steam group, but I'd suggest making a public Steam group to get more members in this community we have here. That, paired with great demo videos on a specialized channel on YouTube, is going to give this mod a huge following.

If this goes public this early and 343/Microsoft doesnt like it, we'll never see the end of it.

It's already gone public with this forum and the numerous videos on YouTube. 343i nor Microsoft have cracked down on the countless mods for other games that rip the materials straight from the games themselves. They aren't making a profit off of this mod and all of the assets are being made by this team. Take a look at the workshop for Garry's Mod, it's full of ripped Halo content and Microsoft couldn't care less. If Microsoft shows no interest in people ripping content from their games and putting it on Garry's Mod, they're not going to show interest in a team making their own assets for a mod. None of this is illegal. It would be different if they were ripping content straight from the games and using it here, but they're not. They have all their bases covered and have nothing to worry about.

The only reason they shut down a WIP RTS Halo mod (C&C iirc), was because they made their own RTS at the time, Halo Wars.

I think we discussed this earlier in the forum and I forget what the conclusion that we came to was but I highly doubt that 343i is developing a halo game which classifies as a military simulator.

EDIT: I forgot to say what a good job you guys are doing. I can't wait for the alpha.

Yup, it's highly unlikely. This is a dream come true for many of us hardcore Halo fans... ever since Halo CE I wanted to play a regular marine in a more realistic setting... and this mod would be perfect and it looks stunning! Thanks for all the hard work guys...

Please, I know that the pelican already has transport capabilities, but I would love to see the Falcon too, and we would have more variety too. (Pelican has both a transport/logistic role, falcon would be just transport, its like comparing a UH-1Y Venom and a CH-47 Chinook)

Btw there is a lot of halo stuff in this site: http://hce.halomaps.org/index.cfm?fid=6261

Also longsword is a pretty big aircraft, maybe you could consider the shortsword too as it is smaller and could combine well with the longsword.

A bit off the topic from Nightovizard but on the topic of the Pelican, the Pelican in the screenshots look more like the TCI variant than the TC variant. The pilot-copilot seating is what the TCI would use and the profile looks like the TCI. The same goes with the Frigate, the screenshots look more like a Paris class rather than the Charon class.

I'm sure the Falcon is going to be added later as more of a small-unit transport or spec ops insertion vehicle. And if not at release, they'll probably add it in later.

Also, these devs are making all their assets themselves. I don't think they're going to want to take the work of someone else without permission, and I'm sure they could do a much better job at modeling it anyway.

And if not at release they'll probably add the Shortsword in later if it needs to fill a gap in the gameplay. Personally, I want to see them get all the highly important assets done and in-game before they focus on secondary assets. But that's just me.

We were discussing this. I would really like for a server to be up 24/7 for anyone who wants to play. At first, it will probably be hosted locally by one of the dev members. Then possibly we will have a higher quality server hosting service do it for us. If this were the case, we would probably ask for donations merely for the upkeep cost of the server. I really don't want to have to ask for donations, but if the demand for a high population server is there we may be forced to.

are you going to add the mod to the steam workshop by any chance?

The last I knew, the Steam workshop has a very low file size cap that would limit the mod. But other people have gotten around it by simply linking the download in the workshop description. Which is probably what we will do as well. In short, yes we will.

We actually already had a Falcon model. We didn't create it, but we did get it from an open source project though (http://notriangle.com/falcon). And it is very high poly and needs other editing to make it work correctly with Arma. This is why we haven't shown anything about it yet but we will in due time.

As with the Shortsword, I would loooove for it to be in. Only problem is that its role is very limited. I could only see it being used as an attack plane and that is just too limited for use in the mod. Besides the Longsword is already planned to fill the attack role. It would be too much work for so little gain. This isn't me confirming that it won't be in, just that it is unlikely.

With the Pelican, we received it from a donator. So we didn't create it with the TC model in mind. But the seating arrangement works nicely and it won't affect gameplay so we are leaving it how it is.

The Charon's model was a placeholder Paris-class. Since then we have received a better quality and textured Charon model.

Not all Halo Wars vehicles will be in. Sparrowhawk included, sorry.
