THe Tempest aka Kamaz Typhoon aka useless piece of scrapmetal

[the author of this Thread dont takes legal responsability for any grammar fails :P]

So,well i know im a bit late, but i just wanted to make a mission with the "new" Tempest trucks for me and some friends.

I was going to set us as drivers and rifle squad in a ai convoy thats getting ambushed by blufor.

Point of ll i drove 5 meters and then got 1 shoted by a mx rifle ..as i was in the driver seat of the tempest..that should be an armored truck.....

In the end i downladed a steam workshop mission to see where my bullets would go if i shoot a tempest, well what came out was kind of depressing for me 10 shots in the fron 10 times penetrated and would have killed the driver.

10 times throu the windows 10 times penetrating 10 times in the door 0 penetration(that suprised me)

Also tried out the mine resistance of that thing...on a scale from oh "that killed me" to "was that a stone ?" its about "oh dont even try it" this thing didnt survived a M6 mine 1 meter left of it

so why BIS puts a truck in says its mine resistant and "kind of bullet proof" when it is not ?

VID LINK (nevermind the audio its from a yt vid i was watching as recording this although msi afterburner shouldnt have recorded the sound..)

The thing is that the real one is fully armored, also the back compartment. And its main goal is to protect the fast insertion of special troops to enemy territory ( mainly Spetsnaz ). It's supposed to be bullet proof and "mine/IED" proof.

Why BI included it without the back armored compartment? It's beyond my reasoning.

Yeah you are right + just made a vid showing how freaking not bullet proof that thing is and even compared it with the hemtt...the hemtt is actually more bullet proof than the tempest as the hemtt can take bullets from the fron but not in the windscreen

vid will come out tomorrow as my inet is crippled..dont know why but it is today yt says imma need 500 mins to upload a 2gb file

in this vid you see that this thing even has spaced armor

BIS in fact did include the back armored compartiment. But you can't enter it. It is the repair truck version of the tempest.

engine stoper to :D you can kill the protected engine with a pistol :D :D :D from the front ^^ in the windows driver and engine dead ^^

the second is - bulled proof tires (runflat) at all tactical armoured vehicles are normal in 2014 - in arma 3 you can kill a complete wheel with a pistol .... and what is the most problem with the ai driving way points in combat? the broken wheels all the time ^^ make the wheels from tactical vehicles real and a other big problem in the game are solved in part °°

One of the downsides of picking all the most high-tech, specialized equipment for Arma 3 is that there aren't any reasonably "soft" targets. Everything should be heavily bullet- and mine-resistant.

My guess is that BIS chose a futuristic looking transport vehicle, but wanted it fill the role of previous transport trucks as far as protection goes. Same goes for the MRAPs and how they are more akin to big up-armored HMMWVs. It wouldn't be very much fun if everyone was driving around in unkillable death-cars. Of course, they could have just chosen some more lightly armored vehicles to put in their game, I guess.

All that said, you probably shouldn't be able to penetrate the front of the cab with a handgun.

VVVV Edit:

and missions makers have the choice : old trucks or bulletproof or a mix.

What I'm saying is that they don't have a choice. There are no HMMWs or UAZs. Almost every vehicle in the game is resistant to small arms (or realistically should be).

?? for this you have mines for stopping ( mine protected applies only to the crew not for the vehicle ) or launchers ^^ see no problem with this. and missions makers have the choice : old trucks or bulletproof or a mix.

Just wann say that the hummvs From a2 are bulletproof AS the hunters are and eventhe uaz can take some small arms

I understand and agree with what you’re saying however, thanks to the way the damage system works I don’t see the un-killable vehicle as a huge issue. The reason is…(Unless I just keep getting some kind of glitch over and over again.) if you shoot out …2 tires? …maybe 3 on an armored vehicle like a Hunter, Ifrit, or Strider….it’s like the windows aren’t even there anymore. (I hate that it works that way but until they fix it….might as well use it.)

Keep in mind I’ve only experienced this while playing against other players; I tried today to set up the same situation using AI but they either won’t shoot at me or they won’t stay in the vehicle after I shoot out two tires. :(

Can anyone else set this up and make it work to see if I’m correct or not?

As for the Kamaz Typhoon (aka Tempest) – I’ve been wishing for this vehicle from the start and I’m glad it’s finally here. I’m also really glad they chose the version with the crease in the front rather than the flat sloped front because I feel it would look too much like the HEMTT from a distance. Then again it might add some interesting challenges for establishing POS ID. (IFF-Identify Friend or Foe) http://www.wallpaperup.com/94989/2010_KamAZ_63698_Typhoon_6x6_military_d.html

As I said above…since I’ve been wishing for the Typhoon and knowing that it was armored. I have also been wishing that they had added or will add an armored cab and transport/cab versions of the HEMTT. http://data.primeportal.net/transports/sanders/ahemtt/Armored%20HMMIT3.JPG (I like the look of then vented armor plates on the front.)

http://i58.tinypic.com/kagxaf.jpg (It’s a model but there is the same type of vented armor kit for the door.)

http://www.arl.army.mil/www/articles/905/image.1.jpg

http://imageshack.us/a/img203/9830/1114360.jpg (Better turret.)

I think it would sort of level the playing field yet still add some diversity. For instance - The Kamaz Typhoon is fully armored and enclosed with limited side gun ports. The Up Armored HEMTT Transport would be armored on the sides but open on top. http://i62.tinypic.com/mrz1mw.jpg

Or

Covered but still vulnerable to gunfire from above… It could have a Medium machine gun mounted for protection up front. http://i58.tinypic.com/2nkm4pz.jpg

It would be cool if the troops in the back could stand and fire out but I don’t know if that’s possible with how things are set up right now…engine issues?

Even though they don’t really use the Up Armored HEMTT transports anymore now that we have sloped armor 7 tons. - http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/d/da/MTVR_MAS_Pretendo.JPG (For those that don’t know...About where that tarp on the top starts is where the armor ends allowing troops to stand and return fire.) This might be a good choice for a US Forces DLC. The Russian Forces DLC could get the new URAL - http://i57.tinypic.com/316sojm.jpg

You Got a really nice idea there with the hemtt infact it is bulletproof already bis only would need to work Rover the Windows and add an turret Ort may keep Thema unarmed

Yeah, ideally though I would make both armored versions(HEMTT/Tempest) impervious to anything less than .408 so that means if you shoot any of the hard plate armor with 7.62 – 9mm it won’t do any damage no matter what direction.*Behind the cab on the HEMTT* (Yes realistically with enough directly flat hits and or certain ammo the metal might dent and you could possibly start punching through but it would more than likely take a lot of rounds.)

The same goes for the windows… The simple way would be to say they are “bullet proof†to 7.62 - 9mm but after about 10 rounds they shatter and make it near impossible to see out of. http://i61.tinypic.com/15iogk.jpg …and with enough hits… http://i58.tinypic.com/f1a8w9.jpg (This is from an IED, but you can still get an idea of what visibility would look like after about 10 scattered rifle hits. *Notice the bulge*)

However, realistic bullet resistant windows would be nice….

I don’t know what the engine limitations are but it would be nice if they could withstand, let say…. 10 hits of 7.62, 15 hits of 6.5, 20 hits of 5.56, before penetrating. I don’t know about the pistol rounds….50 hits of .45 and 90 hits of 9mm? I’d say it would probably just need to be negligible.

(Please keep in mind that these are just numbers I pulled off the top of my head to make it somewhat realistic, useful, and still fun. Also trying to keeping up with a plausible advance in technology/materials.)

I’d change that Tempest Repair Truck and give it back to the infantry as a transport.

Tempest MRAP Transport: “Bullet proof†Cab and cargo (troop compartment.) - http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/7/7e/KAMAZ-63968_Typhoon_armored_vehicle.jpg

Tempest Open Transport: “Bullet proof†Cab/engine ONLY and Open UNPROTECTED cargo area.

Tempest Covered Transport: “Bullet proof†Cab/engine ONLY and Covered UNPROTECTED cargo.

Tempest Repair Truck: “Bullet proof†Cab ONLY …Give it a wrecker body with a spare parts container. – http://www.flickr.com/photos/40208496@N03/5061927303/

(This is what should happen with the Repair HEMTT too! It should also be able to actually tow vehicles, same with the tracked versions.)

HEMTT Armored Transport: “Bullet proof†Cab and troop compartment Vulnerable to top attack. – http://i62.tinypic.com/mrz1mw.jpg

HEMTT Armored Open/ Covered Transport: “Bullet proof: Cab and unprotected cargo Open/covered.

….You all get the idea from here. I’d still keep the current HEMTT trucks in for other mission making fun.
