I think its about time we make the lst fuctional..

Nah, you just have to land the right way:

If you land to close to the edge on the stern, then it sinks.

If you want something more of a challenge, land an airplane on the LST. It is fully possible:

weird...i had to use a bunch. I also had an A10 LGB unload on it, and THAT didnt even take it out.

You can push it around with a helicopter too.

i got frustrated while trying to land on it, so i decided to shoot it.  when i nailed it with a FFAR it moved, so i started to push it around some with the helicopter.  i'd just nudge it at the big tower on top of it then accelerate towards where i wanted it to go.  it was kinda funny.

i just got resistance (i think that's the update in which you can land on LSTs) and havent tried it yet.  i will though.

Like Denoir said its possible if you do it very carefully. Cant land too fast. Its starting to show inprovement so thats showing us that BI is working on it. So thats always a plus. If you want to see the LST look like its taking off take a mi17 and just unload rockets on it from the back and watch the side. The nose will start going up in the air. Quite funny when you're bored.

LOL I cant wait till we get a aircraft carrier from IL. Supposedly IL should be released this year. From reading Avon's FAQ im assuming sometime close to or after december. wow.gif

someone made an LST addon about a year ago that was drivable, troop carrying and had medic powers. I don't rember who made it though.

well i dont think i have read through the whole topic, but....

If you were to make guns, carrying vehicles, ect. then that would need coding in O2. the lst.p3d is a OLOD format model, therefore it cannot be opened by O2. So i dont think it will be possible.

Yup, better to just make one from scratch.  Something like a  WASP class amphibious assault carrier would be very nice.

However something smaller like a destroyer with a helicopter landing pad on the back end would be very cool also.

the question is: does OFP support the capability to have a unit(soldier) walking on another unit(ship) WHILE the other unit(ship) is in motion and to ot have a sliding affect(ship moves but soldier stays in position until ship is no longer supporting soldier)???

That would have to be a "No it doesnt"But thats not the big issue here.I would rather have the Carrier stationary than moveing.

u could maybee script it so u keep in motion with the ship but i bet it would be warpy and buggy as, i think it should be u can walk on it while stationay but also be able to get in as cargo cause walking on its gona be for humans really ai would walk off. in 1.60 u can land on lst y not 1.75.

I'm able to land on the LST in 1.75 no problem. The trick is that you must not be moving too much (autohover if you're a keyboardist), and to make the final setdown gently, otherwise you'll clip through the deck to your death. Helps to be centered in the pad too. After a while you just get a feel for it and you can repeat it every time.

hmm.. im just thinking of the gun turrets on it... there are two i think... i dont know if its possible to use more than one turret in one vehicle... perhaps anyone could help me ...

or maybe its possible to do it with a script? confused.gif

yea i have that addon. its a very old one, somebody made the lst a support vehicle for the west. problem is that the ship goes too fast. and the guns don't work but its nice to have a dirvable lst.

(I don't have a screenshot but this has worked for me)

in the mission editor place an empty LST on a runway going with the dirction of the runway, make an empty motorcycle near the start of the runway facing the front (bow?) of the ship and place a unit(you) get in the motorcycle and drive as fast as you can right into the very tip ofthe front of the ship(bow?) it shoould (and has for me) caused the lst to be launched well over 75 meters straight up into the sky!!!!! wow.gif

Here is a little somethihng to try. Take a cobra and get like 1m away from the side of an LST. Shoot all your FFARs into. WHen you Cobra explodes it takes the LST with it. Its fun!!!!!!! biggrin.gif

if the carrier was part of a map, ie it was a 'building' that the map maker had added, all the things that u want could work.

choppers could land on it 100% of the time, u could walk around on and in it, it could support armoured vehicles inside it. Also u could make all guns work as you could add them as seperate units. biggrin.gif cleaver huh? however it wouldn't move confused.gif

Well, someone made the static, non-functioning, artillery pieces on everon be able to move around and point in different directions. I cant see why doing the same with the LST wouldnt be possible.<span id='postcolor'>

But...what I meant was that someone said that it is not possible to make the turrets point in DIFFERENT directions, like one turret point to the west and the other to the east...
