tremanarch 6 Posted June 5, 2012 I am looking forward to the new setting: Hot Summer, dry dusty roads, cold clear nights.. Oohh I am really beginning to like that. The next Setting could maybe be a jungle -- like Vietnam Setting, that I havent seen in any Arma Game. (Maybe to complex and performance hungry with all that plants.. they need a trick to do this..) metalcraze 290 Posted June 5, 2012 They just need to do northern Europe next. Something like Finland with a lot of forests and snow covered peaks (would be a nice mixed environment).
celery 8 Posted June 5, 2012 Something like Finland with a lot of forests and snow covered peaks (would be a nice mixed environment). What kinds of snow-covered peaks have you seen in Finland?
antoineflemming 14 Posted June 5, 2012 Would it help if I told you that the in-game Chernarussian vegetation actually portrays the area in autumn? Oh I know that. I'm saying I didn't like that about Chernarus. I know it was realistic to whatever the real area was (part of the Czech Republic, right?) during autumn, but I'm saying I didn't like that, and all the orange trees, etc. Just personal preference, that's all. EricM 0 Posted June 5, 2012 With its sweet hills, valleys and scattered forests, Chernarus offered so many sweet spots, like mini isolated playing fields, but still avoided to make the terrain an obstacle or wasted space with excessive slopes. To me it hit the perfect spot. More mountainous and it would make only the valleys really usefull for a lot of things (see parts of Takistan), while too flat and open makes it only good for long range battles. I fear that Lemnos/stratis may suffer from that. It will compensate by other things, but Chernarus was really the perfect balance of relief vs playability. And it felt like home almost (western europe). IMHO.
-Coulum- 35 Posted June 5, 2012 I will miss the forests. I found Chernarus forests a bit boring and repetitive but they do offer obstruction and cover that may be sorely missed sorely in Limnos. But I am pretty sure the brush and low foilage will make up for some of that and the large settlements will definitely make it an awesome map. Basically every building enterable – How can you be disappointed with that. Hopefully BI will improve close combat to take full advantage of this. But really we haven’t seen that much of Limnos so its hard to “not like it†already. I am pretty sure its going to be more detailed than chernarus and I know its bigger and more diverse than Chernarus so that alone will be good enough for me to like it. Hope there’s also more micro terrain.
metalcraze 290 Posted June 5, 2012 What kinds of snow-covered peaks have you seen in Finland? But I didn't say Finland exactly. See I can weasel out because I used the word "like". Finland was more of an example of a mix of green grassy stuff + white snowy stuff. Peaks because I've yet to see BIS do proper mountains in their games. It was mostly hills so far with some humble attempts at Sahrani.
maturin 12 Posted June 5, 2012 I fear that Lemnos/stratis may suffer from that. I wouldn't worry. Those rolling hills look very complex, creating a similar dynamic to Chernarus, with shorter plants. And in a firefight, low-level bushes and scrub are much more reliable concealment than trees, especially against the AI.

Olympianmind 1 Posted June 6, 2012 Well basically Limnos or Lemnos is a real island along with Stratis which was shortened from Agios Efstratios. Stratis is only a small island for training/testing and deathmatching. Limnos on the other hand supports everything the way Takistan and Chernarus did. But, neither Takistan or Chernarus are real places, although modeled after real places. As long as they keep Limnos as close to it really is in real life then there will be many a few large towns and many small settlements. Not only that, but the diverse terrain is just right along with its massive size. Myrina which is the largest town i have discovered on the real map of Limnos houses more than 400 structures. I didnt even care to count them. I think they couldn't of picked a better place to put into ARMA III
-Coulum- 35 Posted June 6, 2012 Right now I actually think I will play as much or more on stratis as on Limnos. I like the hilly/mountanous terrain and the forests. Will make for some good infantry combat.
MrAnderson 1 Posted June 6, 2012 Would this be a correct scale of the two maps? ---------- Post added at 11:32 ---------- Previous post was at 11:31 ---------- Sorry had to make another post to post images. Iroquois Pliskin 0 Posted June 6, 2012 Does that mean Kontopouli is Pariaso? :D Depends on how you rotate the map in relation to Sahrani island. HAHAHA. I'd go for it being Bagango, and that 'desert' area surrounded by mountains to the North-West is the new Arcadia and Cayo/Dolores trio. ;D I f-ing love the layout and outlines of the new island - quite a few chokepoints, so many flanking opportunities. Warfare missions are going to last for 4 to 6 hours. ;) I've got a f-ing hard-on here, man.
Yeti1 1 Posted June 6, 2012 I was very impressed to be honest, I'm not entirely sure how they set it up, but I'm sure when you play the final game there will be a lot more people and the villages won't be as empty.
