shephart 1 Posted April 3, 2012 hello, i want to know how many players can play on one server or can fit into a server ? in ArmA 2 it was 128, will this number stay or will it increase in arma 3 ? oh and another question : what about AI, does 128 players count the AI too ? for example : i open a server with 128 players and have 1 AI, then 127 players fit on the server ? or does it count only real players and we can have bots how many we want ? sorry for my bad english, hope you understand greetings

Wrong. hardcoded it's 256 human players for A2 afaik, not 128. For AI, it's a lot more than 128...much more
Steakslim 1 Posted April 3, 2012 according to a recent interview, it's said the hard limit is 255 i think, but as seen the 128 number will probably remain the same. It isn't too often you see a server break 100 players (I know special server events can and do, but still). edit: or what Pufu said
CameronMcDonald 146 Posted April 4, 2012 Probably no more than 5.
glowbal 13 Posted April 4, 2012 128 That's groups I believe. Or rather, groups on one side (ie. BlueFor). But of course you can have unlimited (AFAIK) AI in each group. :P
shephart 1 Posted April 4, 2012 oh thanks guys for answer my question ! :) great that we can have 256 players and much more AI on a server with these big maps to have huge battle :)

glowbal 13 Posted April 5, 2012 I stand corrected. Been a while since I ran into that limit. :)
msy 22 Posted April 5, 2012 what kind of server computer can support 256+ players in one map in ARMA3?

hoak 0 Posted April 5, 2012 I wonder what ArmA 3's render budget would allow if every real Player were given a back-up fire-team, or squad of AI to control?
Vladplaya 10 Posted April 5, 2012 I honestly don't look forward for huge numbers per map, that would be great, but I really want servers to be stable. So if they can make solid and stable 64 players, that would be great, otherwise its hard to enjoy the game when there are 128 players teleporting and rubber-banding around the map. Dwarden 1125 Posted April 5, 2012 correction, the 255 is softcoded limit ... not hardcoded limitation ... quality of gameplay with 100s players is ofcourse unrelated to these limits
JdB 151 Posted April 5, 2012 correction, the 255 is softcoded limit ... not hardcoded limitation ...quality of gameplay with 100s players is ofcourse unrelated to these limits Does BIS ever do tests with large numbers of testers in MP, to see how the game handles with such a number of "real" number of players on an average server? iratus 71 Posted April 6, 2012 Probably we're doing this during community beta ;)
JdB 151 Posted April 6, 2012 Probably we're doing this during community beta ;) I would hope they have at least done some larger scale testing already prior to the community beta, going into testing virtually blind isn't very useful, late stage (community) betas are meant for fine-tuning the wheel, not inventing it and seeing if it will even remotely work like it's supposed to.
