Brainbug 10 Posted December 24, 2013 In this pack you are see the version from 1990 til 2004 with brighter colors (brown is more red e.g.). After 2004 this camo is known as jungle flecktarn. The camo today is more darker/saturated. I rather thought the light green has been made lighter to give the pattern overall more contrast. As you can see here with the tent pieces, the left one is the older version and the right part has the later colors: http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5284/5206223954_99fc9c7f02_o.jpg The two variants "more brown" and "more green" have been existed before, I'm not sure however how much of those differences are just due to different washing or different suppliers. Check those guys here (in their all-day clothing worn in the barracks), note how different they look: http://www.uni-mainz.de/presse/bilder_presse/04_unimedizin_spende_bundeswehr.jpg The lighter, more brownish variant is however very good in deciduous forest where you have brown leaves on the ground all year around, or in muddy areas, while the more greener and darker variant is better in coniferous forests or in more open, lusher areas with bushes. And for the desert, there are two variants, the "Tropentarn" and the "Wüstentarn". The former is the main pattern used in e.g. Afghanistan, suitable for arid areas with sparse vegetation: http://www.bw-online-shop.com/shop/images/artikel/details/leo-koehler-bundeswehr-einsatzkampfbluse-nach-bundeswehr-tl-tropentarn.jpg while the other pattern for really dry areas without any vegetation is not used officially, but some soldiers in Afghanistan haven been seen with this stuff (quite certainly bought privately): http://www.bw-online-shop.com/shop/images/artikel/details/leo-koehler-bundeswehr-einsatzkampfbluse-nach-bundeswehr-tl-wuestentarn.jpg And then there is are a special type of headwear used by "special forces" for certain seasons, with albeit doubtful camoflage value: http://darkroom.baltimoresun.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/REU-AFGHANISTAN__003.jpg *lol* And the vehicles have an official paint scheme for desert, but in Afghanistan a lot of vehicles were painted differently, with much darker patches. That pattern has more contrast and better conceales the vehicle's silhouette, but also it makes it easier for the Taliban to distinguish it from US American vehicles, which are purportedly attacked with more hate (so I heared in a TV report). For details, refer to the last post on this page: http://www.modellboard.net/index.php?topic=35692.0 But that's just for information purposes, no cristicism regarding your work. I just hope you manage to port this wonderful stuff properly over to Arma3.
marseille77 53 Posted December 25, 2013 thanks Brainbug for your hints. The last uniform sounds interesting. I haven't seen that camo before in so much big size and quality. After some boring time I've made two helicopter pilots of the Bundeswehr. The first wearing an early bristol armour vest and the second one more the actual. -GLT-Sarge 10 Posted December 26, 2013 The KSK uses Multicam now.
Brainbug 10 Posted December 28, 2013 Well, I reckon the KSK will actually use anything that deems appropriate. Using MC may have the reason to look similar to US operators and thus making it harder for the enemy to recognize who is attacking them, which in return could mean less danger for other German troops in the region to be retaliated against. We'll never know why they do something and what they do at all. After some boring time I've made two helicopter pilots of the Bundeswehr. The first wearing an early bristol armour vest and the second one more the actual.good job, however I'm wondering if it would be more appropriate to have camo pattern on the vests (just the vests, the overalls are fine in olive). The Bristol vest in DPM camo (like the SFOR used to wear in Bosnia) and the other, newer one in 5-Farb-Flecktarn. I'm not sure what helicopter pilots of that time wore, but if they had a Bristol vest then probably in the same unfitting camo as the rest of the contingent (because the vests were bought hastily for the SFOR troops).hard to find pics though of a SFOR helicopter pilot, I could only find showing the Bristol vest in DPM: http://de.academic.ru/pictures/dewiki/83/SFORBundeswehr.jpg (may help with matching color/brightness) http://bestprotection.de/shop/out/pictures/master/product/1/sw-gsg9-br6.jpg

Brainbug 10 Posted December 30, 2013 alright then, at least you found a picture. Though I think that's the vest used now or in the last few years, but I have no idea what was used in Bosnia. I read that the Hubschrauberweste is good against 9mm but not against 7.62, and the good (better) protection was the reason why the Bristol vests were bought so quickly for the SFOR contingent that they had DPM instead of producing it in Flecktarn or getting other vests. I'm not sure if the chopper pilots got these vests as well or if they stayed with the defaults vests that had less protection but were better suited for sitting in a chopper seat. OR it could be that there were no German helicopters involved at all, at least not in areas where vests were needed... ok, nevermind, I think we can leave it at that, I think the olive vest is fine as it is. marseille77 53 Posted February 16, 2015 here some new pics of vehicles for BW Retro Mod. This truck, a G398 SAM, was used by the West German Army between 1957 - 1975. Ford has produced him til 1961 more different versions and the German soldiers called him NATO goat because of its sound, reminiscent of the sounds of a goat.
