If anything AToC is the opposite of helping with performance. It's for graphics.

That's a feature (for real this time). It's called ATOC and it's to help with performance.

Read this article to find out how to turn it off: http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/arma2.cfg

You probably only need to location of arma2.cfg and what parameter to use with atoc.

Really? I thought my previous graphics card just didn't support it properly when it looked like that.

AToC makes vegetation look less "jagged", and as a result, requires anti-aliasing to be on. Pretty much anti-aliasing for trees and grass.

It makes vegetation look smoother and blend in better with the environment, and as a result, decreases performance somewhat.

Actually it decreases peformance a lot when there's too much grass and a lot of trees (like Chernarus). For me it eats up to 10 FPS there in contrast to AA without AToC

Better graphics of course don't go well together with performance.

So in conclusion: Atoc = 0 should make the game look better (at least remove the ugly patterns) and increase perfomance?

I thought this was supposed to be fixed in a future patch?

It came out with patch 1.59 I believe too. It was not in previous patches.

And I can confirm the same issue exists in Take On Helicopters.

AToC quality and implementation differs

per hardware vendor (NVIDIA, INTEL and AMD does it bit differently)

per hardware generation (newer NVIDIA cards do it better than older)

per driver build (some fail on it, some do it better or worse)

the 'correct' result is better look on slight cost of performance
