I don't use the downloader... I just download from the links provided. The install is usually split into smaller chunks ( 1.8-ish gig each) so if you disconnect it is not a big problem to start again....try that instead. It is going to be slow no matter what.... That's one alternative, though in my experience the downloader was always faster than the direct links.
