Some questions about diving

Just out of curiosity can anyone confirm or deny any of these features:

- Changing/different in visibility underwater

- Currents underwater

- Bullets from out of water dissipating or even being destroyed when fired into the water

- Depth, compass and air indicators when underwater

- Faults in scuba gear (either random or if you have been shot in the tank ect.)

- Climbing from the water up a net on the side of a ship

- Ships available to raid from water

- Picking up objects from the seabed

- Lights underwater (for night-time or large depths)

- Use of tools or weapons (spear-gun, placing explosives ect.) underwater

- Diffraction effect of people underwater from a view outside the water

- Correct shock wave underwater if explosive is triggered underwater

- Some kind of wounded system underwater

- Decompression times needed if underwater for a while

I'm not recommending these, in fact I wouldn’t like to see some of them; I just would like to know if some will be implemented or are being discussed at the moment.

I believe underwater currents are not going to be in because they would affect (hinder) the Ai too much.

As for the other two points I quoted, if they were to be implemented, I think we would have seen other similar features implemented before these, like vehicles breaking down from usage and weapons jamming and/or deteriorating over time.

Features I'd like besides the above mentioned:

- ability to buddy breath

- decompression sickness from surfacing too fast

- ability to put on/fix/put down SCUBA gear (if you jump from a plane into water, you put on your gear, etc.)

Water will just be a medium where you can move in 3 dimensions and that's it.

It won't be simulated in any realistic way so you can relax now. And wait for ACE.

Recently saw a "Myhbusters" re-run on TV that addressed this. When fired vertically down, bullet penetration from a 9 mm handgun was only about 3-4 m. When fired obliquely at a 20-30 degree angle the effects on the bullet were catastrophic, causing it to shatter after 1 or 2 feet (30-60 cm). They fired a range of guns, 9 mm pistol, shotgun slug, M1 and a 50 cal M107. Even the M107 50 calibre slug (full metal jacket) disintegrated upon entering the water. The most effective weapon fired from the shore at someone offshore under water (30 degree angle) was a 9 mm pistol (low velocity), which had a penetration depth of around 3 feet (1 meter) depth.

Features I'd like besides the above mentioned:

I heard or read an interview where a BI employee said you will be able to take your scuba gear on/off in exchange of your normal gear by using the menu options (the ones that appear when you use scroll)

But I don’t know whether it would be possible to do it in a vehicle

All we know about diving is that

1) You can sabotage vessels

2) You will have infinite amount of oxygen

3) You can scavenge submerged items

4) There will be diver assist vehicles

5) Diving will be used for short, stealthy operations

I also believe that it will be very simplified as it doesn't appear to be a big part of gameplay. It could well be expanded via a DLC, but considering how limited the environment is in terms of mission potential, the developers wouldn't waste much resources on it.

I am sure everyone wants to see everything simulated to its fullest, but whatever is not "economically viable" (from a developing perspective) and doesn't offer much to the gameplay, will be at the bottom of the priorities list.

Or a ladder, low deck, etc

- Ships available to raid from water

I hope so! Imagine assaulting a yacht and taking out some "bad guy".

- Picking up objects from the seabed

Asset recovery, that would be interesting.

- Lights underwater (for night-time or large depths)

Interesting concept, like an flare or just a waterproof flashlight?

- Use of tools or weapons (spear-gun, placing explosives ect.) underwater

An essential feature!

- Diffraction effect of people underwater from a view outside the water

Doubt it, really depends on the view distance.

- Correct shock wave underwater if explosive is triggered underwater

I'd be surprised if there wasn't.

- Some kind of wounded system underwater

Ouch. I'd expect that from CM, but not BIS. :p Not sure scuba will be my favorite thing, but where used, oxygen levels, and refilling the flask, could be an added challenge.

Hmm wonder if you can take some of the kit off underwater, e.g. flippers before coming out the water? Love the ideas.

If the add decompression, the big question is whose tables do they go by? US navy, BSAC, PADI, or try and use a dive computer like setup for the tables? might be best if they leave it out unless they provide us with a way to tell the times (and yes I am an experienced diver)

Also one water feature that would be nice is earth curvature (already present in VBS2). Earth curvature would make amphibious operations more awesome.
