Nicholas 5 Posted June 30, 2011 (edited) TrackIR was an awesome new feature in ArmA. ArmA is what actually got me to buy TrackIR. Although, I feel that TrackIR is somewhat limited in the ArmA series. In other games, you can lean, look around, and even tilt your head. This is known as 6 degrees of freedom (6DoF). I, and I'm sure the community, would really like to see 6DoF fully implemented into ArmA III so that we can do certain things like lean out of a helicopter to look down while attempting that perfect landing. It's pretty self-explanatory what the possibilities of 6DoF are. I think that the majority of the community can agree here: We want 6DoF in ArmA III! rye1 21 Posted June 30, 2011 facepalm. 100 Topics already about it.
Nicholas 5 Posted June 30, 2011 (edited) Hey Rye, there are absolutely 0 topics created about it in the ArmA 3 forums. This is a screenshot of what I am searching for (TrackIR) and where: http://i52.tinypic.com/9s6yon.jpg And this is a screenshot of the results: http://i56.tinypic.com/20r4aaq.jpg You just made yourself look like: 1) An ass 2) An idiot Edited June 30, 2011 by Nicholas

Nicholas 5 Posted June 30, 2011 Although, I still searched for TrackIR, and "TrackIR" is the proper way to spell the name of the device I am talking about. But nothing came up in my results. Try it for yourself, search for "TrackIR" in the ArmA 3 forum. Nothing I can do about that, is there? Don't be so quick to jump to conclusions next time, ok? rye1 21 Posted June 30, 2011 It's been mentioned 100 times, even in random places that wouldn't come up on search. But there is topics there for it so I don't care. :) People want it, and we get that. That's what a feature requesting topic is for.

But there is topics there for it so I don't care. :) People want it, and we get that. That's what a feature requesting topic is for. If there are 100 topics about it (Which there are not 100 topics about it), then don't read them? Like I said, I searched with the proper name of the device I was intending to post about and no similar topics showed up. Instead of being an idiot an spamming stuff like "facepalm. 100 Topics already about it.", how about you report it to a moderator who will determine if such topic is adequate. But no need to contact anyone now as I've provided evidence that I did a search before I posted and nothing showed up. I'll have a moderator come here and clean up this mess. rye1 21 Posted June 30, 2011 Yes I agree, clean up this mess and put it in a feature request topic. Here: http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=119263&page=
Nicholas 5 Posted June 30, 2011 (edited) Yes I agree, clean up this mess and put it in a feature request topic. Here: http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=119263&page=72 We are not required to post our suggestions in the suggestion thread. There are no rules stating that we cannot start our own forum thread if we wish, and sifting through all the nonsense in the suggestion thread trying to find actual suggestions can be frustrating. rye1 21 Posted June 30, 2011 (edited) Well you're not even asking the community anything! You're just saying 'Hai BIS, do this'. If you wanted a discussion then ask the community don't just say give me this. And until that happens it's just a feature request, which should be put in the correct topic. I'm out of this thread, it's useless and I've seen it before and there is ALREADY threads for it. :D Goodbye. Edited June 30, 2011 by Rye
Steakslim 1 Posted June 30, 2011 (edited) You know what.....fuck it, this thread's good, aside from Rye shitting it up. Since TrackIR is going to be in supported in ArmA3 short of some catastrophy, the discussion could be centered in this topic for it. It would also be nice if they added the 6DoF finally. I think i recall some modders trying to make it work back in ArmA1 but I don't remember how successful their attempts work (i think it only worked in SP). Militant1006 11 Posted June 30, 2011 I agree with what Rye said actually, I don't see the point of clogging up this tpoic with more useless threads, cause when actual stuff about the game is posted most people will just stop looking at this topic because going through stupid threads like this to find a good one takes too much time. I honestly think we need another Arma 3 topic, arma 3 useful threads or something along those lines.
Mr. Charles 22 Posted June 30, 2011 This Thread is 1000x more useful than all the shitty "future weapons omg","i do not like the setting, plz change it in the middle of development" and "I do not like PhysX and the other new features, i just want to play with an M4 take 231". While 6DOF is already integrated into Take On!, it could be easily implemented in ArmA3.
dmarkwick 261 Posted June 30, 2011 This thread seems to be more about the thread than the topic :D However... I'd be very interested in TrackIR being made 6DoF throughout, not just for vehicles. I'd like it to be applied to infantry specifically. I can already lean forward and zoom in, and I like that functionality and would wish it to say like that. And I can lean left & right, although it seems to me to be slightly not enough, more lean would be better. So I guess the only axis left is up-down, which doesn't seem to be used at all in ArmA. I'd like some functionality applied to that so that when I move up/down in my seat, my avatar moves up/down so I can peep over walls and terrain etc. Or when I'm prone and in grass, I can peep over the grass. When standing, I can go into a semi-crouch, or stand on tiptoe. I think it would make a great immersive improvement, and of course we can shut off any of the axis if there's something we don't like in the control preferences. mr_centipede 31 Posted June 30, 2011 ^This, what DMarkwick said about the infantry stuffs. would help alot in long grassy area

Finding it to be a pain in the ass with Take On and I am considering unmapping it to be honest. The left to right is nice though.
dmarkwick 261 Posted June 30, 2011 Finding it to be a pain in the ass with Take On and I am considering unmapping it to be honest. The left to right is nice though. Which is fair enough :) I cannot really see any use for up/down in a vehicle anyway.

messiahua 0 Posted June 30, 2011 6DOF would be great for infantry, it would allow to look over any cover, but I can't imagine how it would work with current animation system.
[frl]myke 14 Posted June 30, 2011 6DOF would be great for infantry, it would allow to look over any cover, but I can't imagine how it would work with current animation system. I don't see any major problems as it is just (technically) the same as already possible with head movement, just an additional axis/angle that has to be tracked. Also don't forget that ArmA 3 probably will have a reworked anim system as it has now (don't know how much ragdoll has to do with anim system)
dmarkwick 261 Posted June 30, 2011 I remember reading that ArmA2 supported (I think) some sort of hierarchical skeleton system, so that for example the torso & above can have it's own animation applied while the legs carried on with it's own animation. As such, I expect that a crouching upper body animation can be applied to normal lower body animation, and ramped in exactly the same way as leaning is ramped now. New animations needed would include stretching up/down in prone, and stretching up on tiptoes.

Nicholas 5 Posted June 30, 2011 2/10 for making me rage. You're still a bad troll. And yes, there are lots of threads regarding this. Great contribution. I'm not trolling. I've been a member here for quite some time. I'm only voicing my opinion with my own thread. I didn't want to add it to any other "suggestions" thread because I'm not required to, and half of the suggestions thread is all noise. Do you really want to only see 2 threads in a forum? Suggestions and Wishlist? Get over it.
