PhysX

Recommended Posts

Since collision models were mentioned is it safe to assume that they will be improved from when we saw them last, because when they were showing the ships/tanks/cars colliding with stuff there was a clearly visible space between the objects when they started colliding. It really looked bad.

I think PhysX will also be used to simulate shock waves, like when the grenade blew the four guys over at E3. I wonder if this will also apply to vehicles, for example will large explosions close to vehicles have an effect on the vehicles.

I know Arma3 uses a different engine than Carrier Command but I would expect that the teams work in close association with each other and that the aquired experience of working with physics on Carrier Command will be passed on to the Arma3 team. If parts of Arma3 vehicles are blown off the main chassis similar to the physics in Carrier Command (for example if a humvee it hit by a powerful I.E.D) I will be fapping...real hard.

What engine does Carrier Command run on? It looks like UE, but I saw somewhere that someone said that wasn't the case.

See here:

Report by Czech TV game show, Game Page, featuring A LOT of impressive gameplay (starts at 11:00)

Regarding what they are saying - nothing particulary new, I've chosen only a few bits that I didn't know:

- engine: new/enhanced multiplatform version of Enforce (Alpha Prime, Shade)

- "prettier colours," not aiming for complete realism in the art area

- status of MP is still the same (maybe after release)

as it was posted elsewhere, CC:GM uses own engine ... own physical simulation etc., no point to discuss it in ARMA 3 thread , it has own section on this very same forum

Ok. My point of asking was this: we cannot expect in anyway that just because the modified Enforce engine has some kind of physics doesn't mean that the RV engine will have physics acting in that fashion.

I know Arma3 uses a different engine than Carrier Command but I would expect that the teams work in close association with each other and that the aquired experience of working with physics on Carrier Command will be passed on to the Arma3 team. It's in response to this post. That said, because the engines are different (and even if they were the same), there's no indication or reason for expectation that the teams would either 1)work in close association and/or 2) share physics experience.

What finger pointing? You mean blame for talking about CC's engine? It's not "blame". Just a response. It really wasn't even a long discussion of it. :p

So, basically, we won't be able to play if we have AMD cards. Anyone who has an AMD card and plays Valve should know what I'm talking about.

Read the gorram thread before posting such nonsense.

PhysX implementation is currently entirely CPU-based, what gfx card you have makes no fucking difference what-so-ever, as has been said over and over.

Reading the threads in this post it seems the game will suck donkey cock with an AMD card and it will not work.

So either your reading comprehension is close to zero or you haven't been reading the threads at all.

I have not seen any news that tells me that AMD cards will work with Arma 3. They suck a lot, but I'm upset that they are only using Nvidia which means I can't physically play unless I pay the nonexistant money i have to buy a new card.

For a moments there I doubted Chaingunfighter were trolling, still:

PhysX technology is used by the game engines Unreal Engine 3, Unity 3D, Gamebryo, Vision, Instinct, Diesel, Torque, Hero and BigWorld[21] and is the physics platform of more than 300 video games,[2] such as Bulletstorm, Need for Speed: Shift or Castlevania: Lords of Shadow. Most of these games use the CPU to process the physics simulations.

Video games with optional support for hardware accelerated PhysX, often with additional effects such as tearable cloth, dynamic smoke or simulated particle debris,[22][23][24] include:[25]

The bold part also applies to this game. Here.

EDIT: well, not trolling just terribly misinformed.

Hello!

First of all I would like to apology if this has been covered already.

I've now spent an half a hour looking on the forum for an answer without success, also had my thread locked (like 50% of the threads here).

So here you go:

I was wondering if any of you knew how physx are going to affect soldiers in case of collision with the environment (ie if something falls on you or if you're hit by other assets like vehicles)?

Same question for the vehicles. Any info about how they are going to react with the environment?

Can we expect visual damages after hitting something? or even bursting a tire, breaking the direction and so on?

Hope you can help me to answer these questions.

Cheers

I don't know for certain, but I'm betting there will be PhysX collision detection between vehicles and humans. There was a Arma3 PhysX demonstration at E3 showing a grenade explosion ragdolling some troops, I don't see any reason why vehicle collisions wouldn't have the same effect, but I'm no authority on the matter, maybe I'm wrong.

There was a Arma3 PhysX demonstration at E3 showing a vehicle pushing objects around so I think the answer to your question is yes, but I don't expect vehicles will have any effect on vegetation and trees.

If you look at the E3 videos of the artillery strike you can clearly see the trees fall down just like they do in Arma 2, thus trees are still scripted, have they changed this over the space of 12 months? We have to wait until the 5th of June.
