Better hand grenade throwing abilities

Recommended Posts

After playing around with a mission yesterday, i realized something.

I was quietly walking around when suddenly someone opens up on me, i take cover behind some concrete and have a quick glance as to where the fire came from. turns out he was maybe 20 metres from me behind a picket fence.

i thought maybe a grenade would do it, but unfortunatly, it messed up somewhere, because the first one over shot too far and the second one landed on the other side of the cover from me. (almost killing me)

Arma really needs a better solution to throwing hand grenades; one type of throw isnt enough, and its usually a wild guess at best than a tactical weapon.

One solution might be to add a progress bar on your 'wind up' to throw, giving the thrower distance calculations based on that bar.

One thing is universally true, no game has really made the art of nade lobbing realistic or even close to consistent.

Its by no means perfect, it just takes a lot of practise :p

It's not the throwing that's the problem, but the ridiculous bouncing all over the fucking place.

Doesn't JCove Lite show an arc for lobbed nades? Would be nice to see this in Arma, where the arc extends with the time you hold mouse button, and randomness is added as power grows. Means you would have full control at minimum power, and less control at maximum power.

For variable power throwing, would be nice to see two modes; throw and roll, i.e. by holding shift before the throw.

I personally would like to see an underhand throw.

I dont know how many times I would have like to just lob a grenade into a doorway or onto a balcony.

In the game currently the character mounts up his throw like he would throw a javalin almost.

What ever happened to the overhead throw, where you lob the grenade over your head.

The underhand toss is what is needed (or the option of). It sucks that you can't toss them before entering a buidling or in close/tight outside covered areas...

what we need is someway that we could toss it into a room or window.

Current system works well in the open, but sucks bad in close combat since you can't really aim it at close range.

Here's something I suggested in a previous post.

"What about using a visible trajectory arc on the screen to indicate the grenades flight path and where the grenade will land-like the system used in Gears of War?

The throw angle would be adjusted using the aim controls (mouse up or down) and the throw distance adjusted using the scroll wheel with a circle on the ground to indicate the general area where the grenade will land (longer throws=bigger circle)

This would then make possible long low (rolling) throws, grenade-over-the-top-of-wall/hill throws and grenade-through-window-throws which would be VERY interesting (ie. vertical circle on the target window)."

"The primary weapons, sidearms and rocket launchers have visible crosshairs so why not something similar for grenades?"

Jcove Lite has this but it's a thick grey line and looks a bit odd and out of place.

Perhaps BIS could modify this system for Arma2.

arma needs its grenade system overhauled.

grenades need to be a selectable weapon, like side arms and launchers.

if they are selectable rather than cycled with weapon firemodes, then it allows you to cycle what kind of granade you want to throw, and what kind of throw to use (using the same key as fire mode cycle) be it an underhand toss or overhand throw.

also, for those of us you play with no cross hairs, i would like the strength gauge to be displayed. its hard to judge how strong you are throwing with out it
