DLC Idea : Soviet invasion of Takistan(Afganistan)

I think BIS should make a time trip back to 1980 and make a DLC with:

Russia vs Takibans(Mujahideen)

80's Russian soldier uniforms

80's SAS and US Special Forces(Allied with Takibans)

80's weapons including weapons from the U.S(Some U.S weapons in Takibans hands due to funding)

80's Russian vehicles

Heavily OFP influenced campaign that is from Soviet view with wide range of characters(Rifleman, Spetznaz, Tank commander(Please don't make them gung-ho actiony characters BIS))

Sorry, but they should rather spend their time on important things instead of retexturing existing units.

Just use the existing Russians... the tricolore on their shoulders and their uniforms being green instead of grey has not the faintest impact...

While idea is not so bad I would prefer modern Russian forces in different camos. However, Ill rather wait for CWR2. ;)

According to canon, USSR aided the socialists in the civil war that started in 1988 and ended in 1992. No Soviet invasion occurred.

Since Afghanistan has already been covered with Takistan, I'd like to see a 'Soviets in Africa' thing. 1960s/1970s. Can't think of that being done before in a game. Although BIS seems to be big on modern technology now, what with the FLIR and such, so I don't think there's much of a chance they'll step back into the past now.

True, but we did ask for asymmetric modern warfare and got it :)

Personally, I'd say stay with the current asymmetric modern warfare in this game (and future games, although I agree older style is easier to game). I don't see any reason why modern Russia couldn't be involved though, it's a future fictional scenario in a nonexistent country :p I miss the Russian units and equipment too (updated to OA standards of course).

But, problem: They're still selling Arma2, where these units "belong". Not so sure they want to have "you need both Arma2 and Arma2 Operation Arrowhead to use this DLC" stamped on. If they don't, why buy both games?

The Cubans fought proxy wars for the Soviets in Africa in the 70s and 80s (most notably Congo, Angola, Eritrea and Somalia). Over 400,000 Cubans served in Africa, in both civilian and military capacities. It is estimated that 3,000 to over 10,000 were killed. Proportionately, very low end estimate (the US has 22X the population of Cuba) is greater than Americans killed in Vietnam.

To comment on the OP: I would not like to see a Soviet invasion of Takistan DLC pack. I WOULD like to see a Soviet invasion of Afghanistan DLC, or Soviet invasion of [a fake country that actually looks like Afghanistan]

I know, that's why I brought it up. I meant a fictional scenario where the Soviets had their own people, maybe just a small group, doing some fighting for whatever reason. Like a small team of Spetsnaz advisors leading groups of African troops. Then to mix it up a bit, playing as an African guy during some more conventional, larger-scale battles.

Any Bush war scenario would be cool, I'm just interested in Soviet involvement in Africa.

You could throw in Apartheid era South Africans doing the same on the other side (as they did - South Africans advised and sometimes fought alongside the Angolan rebels and SA Mirages and Cuban MiGs engaged in dogfights in the skies). Now you will have a classsic Blufor (Western Bloc) and Opfor (Eastern Bloc) scenario.

Any Portuguese-speaking voice actors out there?

To my best knowledge a Russian addon making team is making units and a campaign with a 80's themed Soviet army operating against mujahedeen in Takistan (or Afghanistan)
