It looks cool but seems a bit high on the polycount. THen again these guys their HK weapons are great so they must know what they are doing.

Ok got a question about that tank.

I ve seen it in the news many times now sad.gif and i was always wondering what the little things ( bells ? biggrin.gif ) were on the turret ?

Can someone explain that to me plz ?

The area at the bottom of the turret is protected by these. Incoming AT projectiles hit these metal chains and explode prematurely, saving the turret.

(With thanks to my husband for the technical contribution).

The chain and ball armor is widely used by Israel. Chains with metal balls attached to the end of them on the side of say a M113 apc ensures that all hits in the chain protected areas from RPGs and similar weapons are detonated prematurely and the area of effect is reduced.

It is one of the cheapest forms of effective additional armor but the US army for example refuses to use them because they want a clean look for their vehicles or something... pretty damn stupid if u ask me.

Don´t think so, in my opinion the best MBT is the Leopard2, the new versions of it are even better because it has a totally new shaped turret and a better gun. Then the agility is just great, it gets more power on the ground than any other tank and it got a hit percentage of about 99% while going at fast speed.

It's not a very good all round tank compared to the Leclerc, Challenger or Leopard.

And again the age old argument of what country's MBT is the best bears its ugly head. An argument which has been drug out to the point of being moronic. Its easy to look at WW2 and say the Tiger was better than the Sherman or the T-34 was better than the Panzers. Because these vehicles and their crews actually fought each other. And even then the Sherman's use in WW2 shows that superior numbers, crews, and tactics can defeat a superior design.

However, the Leclerc, Challenger, Merkava, T-80/90 whatever have never fought each other, all they have ever engaged is inferior antiquated MBTs with the usual advantage of numbers and tactics. Each MBT excells at what it was designed for. MBTs like the Abrams are designed to be fast moving hard hitters for assaults, Merkava's are designed for Defense and Offense in a man-portable AT filled enviroment.

Any comparison that is made will be biased towards ones weakness and another's strength. Until the dreadfull day these machines of war are actually used against each other we will never know which is the better, and even then superior tactics, numbers, and training may bring the underdog out on top.

What we can do tho, is look at the specs for each tank.

Speed, horsepower, cannon caliber, reload time, how fast the turret can turn, and so on. You get my point?

But, as always, it's about superior tactics, more than who has got the better tank and more of them. As you said: "it might bring the underdog out on top."

I agree with RedRouge. Different tanks are designed for different jobs. If a tank is designed for large scale open area combat of course it should have a higher caliber gun, and faster engine. You don't want to be going slow across a big open field cause then your just praying to get killed. It needs the bigger gun and fast engine to attack at longer ranges. There would be no need for a tank that is designed for more close quarters fighting to have these attributes.

As for the Merkava. Why would you need to go that fast if all I do is drive down cramped areas or streets and why have a gun that big if all your shooting at is close to you? You would scrap the bigger gun and faster engine for more armor against mobile AT's. I'm not sure I would pick the Merkava for a long range tank to tank fight with some other tanks listed. It wasn't really designed for that. If it came down to that, I'd just call in the Apache. Now there's your long range tank killer wink.gif

Well the Americans are putting extensive research into force fields now...so with a bit of luck next time they get into a serious conflict they'll have a clean look that works.
