Jumping or Diving

Recommended Posts

There should be a jumping button. I love to play this game and all but walking around things is getting boring. I don't care if you have to hold the Jumping button for a while to jump because I would get used to that. I also get annoyed how your guy never leaves the ground unless he is in a air vehicle or skydiving. Also a diving button would be good. Like if somebody throws a grenade in the building and its gonna explode in 5 seconds you can jump out a window or if your getting shot at and you need cover dive over those short walls. Please add a button like that, it would be nice.

P.S. I know there is a button to walk over small walls.

you put 20kg of gear on and see how good you jump

Actually a regular grunt carries around 35kg equipment with him.

@Methos

Take a backpack filled with 35kg of somewhat and jump around.

It's a Milsim, not Hollywood nor a <insert-name-of-generic-shooter-here> clone.

I too miss dolphin diving and butt sliding everywhere. I also miss deploying my parachute from 2 metres above the ground.

...oh wait.

Once there was a time when we couldn't vault small fences and instead had to just try and sprint straight through Walls and fences (admittedly easier to do back then)

It would be nice for some movements to be a bit more 'kinetic' but it isnt going to happen in the current iteration of the engine

Methos have you tried pressing the 'V' key?

However if you really want to jump - BF2 is that way.

Explain to me how they sprint.

Diving out of a window? That's a very difficult task.

With a lot of working out and training. If you want to be able to jump onto buildings of MBTs then I suggest you go play BFBC2 as ArmA 2 is a simulator.

As said above, it's very hard to jump in combat gear. Think about it, you have your rifle; 25KG bergen; vest w/ammo; a helmet and much much more. Also especially in hot climates you need a lot of water so you don't dehydrate.

Since you can't jump after you carry tens of kilogram, butt sliding is a good choice. I really miss the anim in GRAW3, cool.

The whole loadout weight argument reminds me of Arma 1 times when the unresponsive animations were actually realistic because of heavy gear, combat stress and whatever.

What about the unarmed soldiers who only have their uniforms? If equipment weight was a factor, they should be able to do all kinds of acrobatics.

They must be so fat that it compensates for the lack of gear. They're also really good at pulling in their guts :)

I mean, what other explanation could there possibly be?

No need to explain...take a sprint, stop and start to aim. Try to get a clean shot over...let's say 150 meters.

Again, take 35 of weight, go outside (you know, that funny stuff you see when looking out of the window) and do some jump-arounds. Also try sprinting with it.

Yes but simulating the movement possibilities of unarmed soldiers is about as useful as simulating their need for hydratation.

You can give weapons to unarmed/light soldiers. They will still have no rucksacks and equipment half their own weight, just a gun in their hands. Yet they are equally unable to jump around as anyone else.

I know, but how often does that situation fall in the scope of the game? Its mostly about combat missions, situations where a soldier left all his gear except his rifle somewhere else are not very regular.

EDIT: In a perfect world i would like to see weight based stamina and dexterity, but...

Also, @OP, when a grenade lands near you, surely you can just hit the dirt?

Tbh I am happy with the jump....well climb over obstacle.

As for the dive from grenade well tbh in this game you should not be in a position a grenade has endangered you or your team you should have spotted the threat way before they where close enough to use nades :P.
