STALKERGB 6 Posted December 1, 2010 Hmm, could be interesting to hear what they say, I for one am something of a sceptic on aliens and the like but am always interested to hear peoples views/theories/proof on such matters. Obviously with it being NASA then I guess you would have something other than just some random people saying they exist. Wouldn't surprise me though if it turns out to be quite a dull talk on the theoretical possibilities of life on other planets and bacteria etc. Anyway, Think I have a watch if I get the chance... Janxy 10 Posted December 1, 2010 Hmmm interesting. Maybe they've discovered oxygen and water signatures on a planet in another system. With 100 billion stars in our galaxy, a 100 billion galaxies and systems with planets appearing to be quite common, I think the chances that there isn't any more life out there is highly unlikely. SaOk 112 Posted December 1, 2010 (edited) It could be this: http://skymania.com/wp/2010/11/alien-life-form-is-here-on-earth.html/ All known life to this point have been carbon-based. There might be other way - to create life with arsenic which would allow searching life from more different types of planets. walker 0 Posted December 1, 2010 (edited) Hi all Maybe some bacteria in space? There was a recent probe looking for that. Analysing what they do is likely to give an answer. Also note no astronomers. Which if it was on a newly discovered planet orbiting a distant star I would expect. vilas 477 Posted December 1, 2010 i hope that they won't find anything, i would rather be afraid of any other life form , i would like to stay away from other forms of life
kavoven 4 Posted December 1, 2010 Wow, I'm excited! Could be really interesting! :) (And nice research walker!)
vilas 477 Posted December 1, 2010 (edited) i hope not, what would be if they would find human-feeding aliens or form that spread virus ? :( better to keep from any other form as far as possible , aliens are not for me, definetly they are not beauty girl feeding by ... :D 69 reasons to be afraid ? no, no no, let aliens stay away i would rather believe in being alone in the space than have to share earth with something strange which would use me Edited December 1, 2010 by vilas
kavoven 4 Posted December 1, 2010 I guess it would be more something like traces of bacteria in the ground of Mars... nothing thats actually alive.
walker 0 Posted December 1, 2010 (edited) Hi all @Vilas we just want you to go to sleep, you are tired now arnt' you? Sleepy head just go lie down and fall to sleep and everything will be fine... On a more sensible note: Several different heads of different academic sites. Scientists tend to be more insular so as to maximise funding for their academic site. All of them appearing together would seem to indicate something with multiple budget capability and requirements. Also a lot of water based research so maybe some thing to do with a water discovery off planet. I seem to remember some possibilties of water on Mars underground being discussed and also a Jovian moon with signs of water ice. kavoven 4 Posted December 1, 2010 I think the "Mars person" is a good indicator for the planet. Otherwise some moons of Jupiter and Saturn could be possible candidates considering life based on other cheminal structures, but my guess is Mars. :)
vilas 477 Posted December 1, 2010 walker look at this from other side if scientists will find life than what will happen with god believes that god created human ? people will say - there is no god, there is no hell, so there is no sin, i can robe, steal, kill, rape - no punishment, so okay and you have mass of problems with people and falling culture roots not only about creatures that in 100 or 50 or 1000 years might visit earth but also in fall of all what we know now like morality basing on christian roots (if there is no heaven and hell, why people should be nice to each other ?) such life find is not only matter of biology, but about whole life philosophy , religion society systems, moral beliefs etc. that keep some people to be moral when policeman do not watch them not only scientifict fact, but also sociological, pshylogical (can cause panic or etc cause people will throw away all beliefs and can panic and change attitude that now blokes them - for good of society peace )
Soldier of Anarchy 10 Posted December 1, 2010 I'm holding out hope they found the "Precursors" starship  http://lparchive.org/LetsPlay/Star%20Control%202/Bloopers/01.jpg Then I could ask.. "Where's all the Syreen women at?"

vilas 477 Posted December 1, 2010 (edited) no matter what you think as individual finding other life form will be big influence on sociology/religion/human approach to what is life/humanity/soul etc. it will be big impact in philosophy of life it is like A-bomb, you dont need armies, tactics, strong walls , you need one rocket and button to destroy other country/city so it changes way of thinking , right ? or robots in war ? safely gun sits by LCD and kill others without risk, no courrage, no value and respect , just thermal vision, joystic and unmanned machinegun on tracks do job - such things change attitude , they are not just technical news they are also philosophical if sadist sit by LDC and uses joystick - he can kill anyone without risk, 1000 miles away by keyboard , in home, so he not care about human life at all, cause not risks his own , if aliens, there is no god's creation, no afraid hell to be good man, so i can kill, steal - no punishment in philosophy of people it influences life Edited December 1, 2010 by vilas
Dwarden 1125 Posted December 1, 2010 bet 1. Mars samples results 2. Comet samples results 3. Possible life source found (in our solar system like titan moons) 4. Distant planet of earth size and type proved
Daniel 0 Posted December 1, 2010 Vilas, What part of "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations" suggests they must only be Earth bound? What religion forbids the possibility of life in the heavens? I reckon it's a comet sample.
walker 0 Posted December 1, 2010 Hi all Fox picked it up but Astronomy and Science like Geography is not one of the Faux News Team's strong points. ....The reality may be less dramatic, though still intriguing: Based on the background of the four conference participants NASA cites, the announcement will probably concern lifeforms that live off of poisonous arsenic. Popular blogger Jason Kottke and others have concluded that the announcement will tie into the quest for life on the Martian moon Titan... My use of bold in quoted text http://www.foxnews.com/scitech/2010/12/01/rumor-roundup-nasa-discovered-alien-life/ As always follow the link to the original text in full I wonder how long it will be before it gets corrected. Kind Regards walker ---------- Post added at 07:41 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:29 PM ---------- Hi all Scooped? 'Life as we don't know it' discovery could prove existence of aliensNASA has sent the internet into a frenzy after it announced an "astrobiology finding" that could suggest alien life exists – even on earth. By Richard Alleyne, Science Correspondent 6:00PM GMT 01 Dec 2010 The discovery could prove the theory of "shadow" creatures which exist in tandem with our own and in hostile environments previously thought uninhabitable. The "life as we don't know it" could even survive on hostile planets and develop into intelligent creatures such as humans if and when conditions improve. In a press conference scheduled for tomorrow evening, researchers will unveil the discovery of a microbe that can live in an environment previously thought too poisonous for any life-form to survive. The bacteria has been found at the bottom of Mono Lake in California's Yosemite National Park which is rich in arsenic – usually poisonous to life... http://www.telegraph.co.uk/science/space/8174040/Life-as-we-dont-know-it-discovery-could-prove-existence-of-aliens.html So something terestrial not extra terestrial? Again note the missing Astronomer. Or possibly a scan or data from something already found off planet matches this new life form found on earth. Guest Posted December 1, 2010 As long as they have hot blondes I cant wait to see this new "life" info. Maybe I have a chance with an alien, here on earth chicks don't like Armaholic. :butbut: But yeah, seriously I am very interested to read what they have to show us. I fully believe we are not alone and can not wait to see it confirmed, in any way.
Heatseeker 0 Posted December 1, 2010 Well... i recall reading about "Life as we dont know it" somewhere before, on diferent types of living organisms. If NASA is about to reveal that they discovered a new type of living organism on earth, wich they believe could survive on Mars it might be a little soon to announce ET.. topas 1 Posted December 1, 2010 Discovery Channel - Alien Planet May be you know this already. A speculative narrative with some (not so good) CGI, illustrating what an unmanned space mission could find outside our solar system. @Vilas Those beliefes and the system you mention (apparently endangered by an eventual discovery of alien life sa you claim) for whole centuries kept the civilisation as we know it in reins by making it believe believe that Earth is flat, that the sun is running circles around it, that there's a hole beyond the horizon and ships fall into hell there... and.. oh, wait... didn't they burn poor suckers who dared to disagree alive? kavoven 4 Posted December 1, 2010 If I remember correctly the ecosystem of that planet presented in the documentary was populated by about 4 different species... wasn't that impressive ^^

topas 1 Posted December 1, 2010 If I remember correctly the ecosystem of that planet presented in the documentary was populated by about 4 different species... wasn't that impressive ^^ Suppose they had a limited budget :P Plus; who'd take on a challenge of creating a whole alien ecosystem? Even if it was to be only a 1/10th the variety of our homeworld - it'd take an eternity I presume ;)
