Rewindlabs 10 Posted October 26, 2010 I am thinking about picking this up for ArmA Would it be possible to have ArmA do all of its caching on the drive without having to store my OS on it?
Baff1 0 Posted October 27, 2010 I have mine as a secondry drive with just ArmA installed on it.
cjph 0 Posted October 27, 2010 I used to run the OS and game off an HDD and the game addons from a Kingston SDD. Worked a treat til it went wonky with a flat 3mb/s for all reads and writes. cj
EDcase 87 Posted October 27, 2010 Yes, it is possible and beneficial to install ARMA on a SSD. (You should uninstall and reinstall rather than move an existing installation) The Windows cache should still be on HDD I think. As for that one. I suggest looking at several reviews to make sure the transfer rates are good. SSD's do vary in performance so make sure to get a good one. I have the OCZ Vertex 30Gb which works well enough tho there are faster ones now.
5133p39 16 Posted October 27, 2010 I have installed ArmA on OCZ Revo 120GB for PCIe, and i am very happy with it. It's not exactly the cheapest choice, but it was worth the money. And i will definitely buy another one for the OS (but i want to upgrade my computer first, so the new SSD will have to wait).
jerryhopper 286 Posted October 27, 2010 (edited) OCZ Vertex2, 120GB ( faster write speeds than the Intel competitors. ) i run my OS, ArmA & Adobe master collection on it. ... All i need now is a 8GHz cpu ;) Edited October 27, 2010 by jerryhopper

But I want a SAS 6G variant, and I still need a SAS 6G controller which aren't easy to come by. :(But I assume SATA already satisfies your needs?

kklownboy 43 Posted October 30, 2010 its easier, unless you know how to change the paths and some reg stuff.
MrBump 10 Posted October 30, 2010 its easier, unless you know how to change the paths and some reg stuff. Use a program like Application Mover, moved Arma 2 over to my Vertex 2 today, no issues.
bangtail 0 Posted October 30, 2010 OCZ's Sandforce based drives are excellent (Agility 2, Vertex 2 etc), as are Crucial's C300s.

bangtail 0 Posted October 30, 2010 (edited) Yeah cause they don't slow with age it seems. They will eventually but long after they find their way into a landfill or tech museum :D Edited October 30, 2010 by BangTail
dmarkwick 261 Posted October 30, 2010 its easier, unless you know how to change the paths and some reg stuff. Ah, OK, 'cos that's what I did :) I went digging about in the registry & changed the paths :D Works fine so far.
nuxil 2 Posted October 30, 2010 i have 2 Crucial C300 in raid 0. i dont regret 1 second on getting them. after putting the os & arma on thouse ssd disk it was like a new computer. and DO NOT PUT THE PAGEFILE ON THE SSD DISK. you will kill them. or a more presice way. ther lifespan will drastically reduce
Baff1 0 Posted October 31, 2010 I'm pretty sure the same is true of whatever drive you put it on.
nuxil 2 Posted November 1, 2010 I'm pretty sure the same is true of whatever drive you put it on. umm. well all disk will die eventually the ssd drastically reduces its w/r speed much much faster than a hdd, if you put the pagefile there. well i learned the hard way. im not doing the same mistake with thise disks.
