Archamedes 10 Posted September 21, 2010 No script but a good story apparently already thought up. I always wanted there to be a sequel, however i really cant see how it could follow the first one, especailly to have a good ending when mankind had already been weakened too much to possibly put up another fight. but hey, fox is hungry. http://worstpreviews.com/headline.php?id=15768
Bavator 8 Posted September 21, 2010 "Oh yeah! There's a story. There's a very really good great story, a very cool one," Sure, and Red River is going be Game of the Year in 2011.
nodunit 397 Posted September 21, 2010 (edited) sequel wouldn't make sense unless it shown the aliens pretty much wiping out all of humanity. Many governments were destroyed including their military leaders and militaries themselves, cost of damages and loss of lives would require DECADES if ever to be restored. as you said, mankind was weakened far too much, at this point it would be like fighting a toddler, then again whose to say what all the mothership had..did the aliens move by colonies? Were they as weakened as humans were in the end?...nah that would be impractical to have civilizations and militaries of such size on the same ship. It's kind of like Jurassic Park 4..best left nonexistant. (3 wasnt really necessary either) Edited September 21, 2010 by NodUnit
Archamedes 10 Posted September 21, 2010 Yeah i mean i remember seeing independence day at the cinema when i was like 12 and obviously loved it, back then i thought it had to have a sequel, however now im all grown up i can see that it wouldn't work, not unless they go down the planet of the apes/invasion earth route and enslave us. However that seems unlikely as they said through telepathy that the alien race wanted us all dead.
Big Mac 19 Posted September 21, 2010 (edited) I thought the first movie was kinda retarded. I'm an American and I love my country, but honestly that movie makes it out to be that the US saved the world while everyone else sat on their thumbs waiting for the American's to save the day. Gimme a break people. Besides the only good movie Roland Emmerich ever made was Stargate which puts him one step higher than Uwe Boll who hasn't made a movie yet that didn't suck. I only say Stargate was good because if it wasn't for the movie there wouldn't have been the TV series which was 20 times better. The bit where the seemingly clueless RAF pilots out in the desert are like "it's the americans, they have found a way to attack" "about blody time, what do they want us to do?" as if nobody else on the planet could possibly think up any solution
nodunit 397 Posted September 22, 2010 (edited) movie title alone says it would have been US eccentic and that the US would save the day.."Independence day" afterall, all it was missing was a north american flag. Though this brings up an interesting plot point, the big find was the signal in the satellites, surely they weren't hacking into only the united states sattelites, I'm sure we aren't the only ones with satellites orbiting the earth. mr_centipede 31 Posted September 22, 2010 A sequel to ID 1 could be made if they focus on rebuilding the aftermath... much like the anime SDF Macross ep 28-36. But that was a love story with big space war as the backdrop. But the aftermath aspect really kept the story on reality ground instead of the usual happy ever after when the enemy was annihilated. but what kind aftermath could it be? civil war trying to unify earth as a single goverment? Unification War... okay, that is an obvious macross reference from my part :D
STALKERGB 6 Posted September 22, 2010 To be honest they could fob off the plot by just saying "Those were just the aliens preparing the planet for the main fleet which has just turned up" how lucky :) Would have to have the same actors though! And i think everyone loves the RAF pilots in the desert lol!
VanhA-ICON 11 Posted September 22, 2010 The movie had good FX but story nearly made me puke..... Maybe they could do it over again but this time film from another perspective than US (as it always tends to be) C'mon!! I want some drunken swedes fighting the slugs with JAS gripen (for example) :D
maddogx 13 Posted September 22, 2010 Back in the day, when the original film was released (I was twelve too, btw. :)) I thought "Yeaargh! This film totally needs a sequel!". Nowadays I'm not so sure. I mean, they did say it was the entire alien civilization aboard the mothership, so when Will Smith and Jeff Goldblum blew it up, they effectively killed off ~99% of them, right? And the rest probably died when their city killer ships hit the ground. Well, maybe they could still spin it differently, for example that the entire alien civilization was "like locusts, moving from planet to planet", but not necessarily all on the same mothership. It will be interesting to see what Emmerich comes up with for the second and third films. Hopefully it won't just be the same story, but dialed up to eleven! (Like, three alien motherships! ZOMG!) Sertorius21 10 Posted September 22, 2010 yeah there was a hell of a lot of talk about that, at my old school. The bit where the seemingly clueless RAF pilots out in the desert are like"it's the americans, they have found a way to attack" "about blody time, what do they want us to do?" as if nobody else on the planet could possibly think up any solution IIRC, the RAF pilot actually says, with mounting surprise: "It's from the Americans! They want to launch a counter-offensive!" Keep in mind that he says this with incredulity in his voice, because only Americans are manly enough to think about striking back after somebody wipes out their major cities and millions of citizens. Also, I remember that the first film had a bunch of Jew jokes, so maybe they could bring that up to 11.
Archamedes 10 Posted September 22, 2010 yeah i knew my quote wasnt 100% on the money but close enough to nail the point that we were all mindless apes sitting around on our thumbs waiting for the americans to solve all the problems

Well according to Roland Emmerich we are. I'm sure that pleases the idiotic rednecks in America or flag waving, jesus freaks who cry whenever they hear Lee Greenwood's Proud to be an American and use any chance they get to chant "USA USA USA." But it doesn't please me because I would rather see a more realistic version that doesn't have the US looking the only smart country and everyone else look like a bunch of bumbling idiots who only survived through sheer luck. bascule42 10 Posted September 23, 2010 In all fairness though...the day was saved by 2 people who had been sidelined by the US Gov. One for having it away with a stripper, (No shuttle crew place for you)...and the other 'cause he punched the pres for shagging his Mrs. erm... ...independance Day eh? Be a bit crap if it happened on ID though. Should shift it to another holiday? Christmas Day, or Thanksgiving though. Maybe ID2 - Easter Sunday. It'll be a decent/shite popcorn movie...nothing more nothing less.
HyperU2 11 Posted September 25, 2010 I think people pay too much attention to the invasion, the film is a comdey. PS we have Area 51, we get to save the day.
