Raise/lower sidearms

Recommended Posts

Can we have the ability to raise or lower sidearms, the animation is already there as you can see it when selecting your gear menu while holding a pistol.

Can we have this available through the same method as raising and lowering rifles etc.

It would be handy for some of the confined spaces in buildings etc.

One of the SLX mods lets you holster your pistol, but unfortunately it needs a menu action to do, rather than using the default lower weapon key. I'd definitely support the ability to lower and/or holster any weapon. The game suffers slightly from the inability to lower launchers too, something bulky like a Stinger blocks a lot of your view and the lower weapon key puts it away completely. It's awkward having to aim down then look up just to be able to scan the area for enemies.

The binoculars would also benefit from ungluing your hands and eyes from them, it's much more natural to wander around with them in one hand by your side, raising them to your eyes when needed. You could basically have the current pose with them held to your eyes as an aimed animation, the binoculars held at chest height in both hands as a ready animation, then the unarmed animation set with binoculars in one hand for lowered / movement animations. Since they'd no longer be permanently aimed, it should also allow you to run with binoculars like other weapons.

The weapon switch system has to be revamped and at that point sidearms, binoculars, etc., should not be treated any differently than anything else.

There should be a key to cycle between weapons/equipment, and a key to cycle between modes of the current weapon/equipment.

It should also be possible to bind a key to switch directly to a particular weapon, most commonly to your main rifle, but could be anything.

If that's done then switching to the pistol should be no different than switching to any other weapon, and it should be possible to raise/lower it like any other weapon.

This could be done by introducing two new possible key bindings in addition to the existing ones so that people can choose the old behavior if it's what they are used to, but the new behavior should be the default for new players.

Good idea

+1

Improve infantery control/animations/movement http://dev-heaven.net/issues/11758

•Collision with object and the weapon.

Sometimes you can not go sideways through a door or opening in a wall. A solution would be a preciser collision box or maybe a automatic animation like "weapon down to hip" and back

Yeah good idea. Whats the point switching to a sidearm inside houses when you find you cant turn while going upstairs - no matter if you have a pistol or rifle you always get stuck under a railing. I always try to run up and get the gun around quickly enough before that enemy soldier realizes i stand behind him -> takes away atmosphere.

I second this. It also looks very weird for people wandering around with their arms sticked in front holding their pistol 100% of the time. In other games you wouldn't mind, but ArmA has such an excellent atmosphere that things like these risk to really break it.

I would love this and also the ability to raise/lower the weapon while moving, without having to stop (I think in real life you don't need to halt to bring your weapon in the ready position).

In fact it this way since armed assault. Operation Flashpoint: resistance had the holstering feature for all weapons including handguns. The Request is so old like Armed Assault.

+1 I'm for this

If you can put your rifle down, and in OFP put it away, why not do the same for the rifle and pistol.

Although today I havent seen to many military personal in doc vids have their rifle on their backs like in OFP,

mostly in front like in the game, but none the less one should be able to put the pistol away.

Good wiki, I'll add that to my list.

But their answer being not present is a general statement pointing out to the reader of the wiki that it is not present in the game,

which we already know its not present and thats why this topic was posted or should I say suggested because we want it present in the game.

This. ^

If you tap the ALT key (default assignment) you can lower your primary weapon, the same can easily be done for a sidearm, as AI units do it all the time when not in combat mode. It's kind of hard to talk and have conversations with friendly units and civilians when you're pointing a loaded M1911A1 handgun in their face.

EDIT: The command to lower your weapon is to tap the CTRL key, not the ALT.

Yes this is a small, but persitant little annoyance in combat. Especially in OA there are many houses with stairs to roof tops, but you can not use the top of the stairs for cover or use/peek door openings for cover. Always struggeling with the rifle and in the end you get killed because you have to reveal your body to much to be able to shoot/aim.

Maybe an idea to make the worn rifle phantom so that the barrel does not get stuck so much

I thought it is Double Tap Left CTRL key?

Nah if only BI have finish all the minor and major bug fixes before they even discuss and plan about this again. As they already considered it

Thats why theres this mod, may not fix most things but it sure helps.
