Banned for BAF?

Recommended Posts

I had found a public server that actually ran the plain-vanilla CTI in Takistan, so I figured I would give the MP in Operation Arrowhead a shot. I had joined the game running on the server on monday (September 13), played for about 4 hours without incident, logged off, and called it a night.

Today (september 15), I attempted to join the same server, and during the connection process I got the message that I had been banned.

At first I was confused. I had done nothing to annoy the host/admin, was polite/civil while playing, and had pretty much been the model ArmA 2 player.

However, something caught my eye upon connecting to the server. It was a small line of text that reads something like this:

'tsb247 uses modified data file - ArmA2; ArmA2: Operation Arrowhead; ArmA2: British Armed Forces'

My question is this:

Could BattleEye get confused by someone using the full version of BAF when comparing it to someone who only runs the 'Lite' version (the one that comes with the 1.54 patch)? Or, could that wording alone possibly lead an admin to ban simply because I have a different data file then they do simply because of my DLC?

I am running a completely unmodded version of ArmA 2: OA at this point (unless you count BAF).

Nope, not banned for BAF.

'tsb247 uses modified data file - ArmA2; ArmA2: Operation Arrowhead; ArmA2: British Armed Forces' is all normal and should appear.

Guess the admin got annoyed at something - Only he/she knows what.

Thanks for the heads up. It's been FOREVER since I have played an ArmA game online. I usually LAN with a friend, but I was feeling adventurous this past week.

It's a shame. It was a good server for just messing around in CTI. It had a low ping and seemed like a good place to call 'home,' until I found a better place to play on a regular basis.

I suppose the admin was/is just a jerk. Oh well, the max population I have ever seen on that public server was 2 (just me and the admin in a head-to-head game of CTI).

Unless using artillery is completely taboo, and sniping the enemy commander at ~600m is off limits, then I suppose I must have done something to offend. I can't imagine what I did. In all honesty, he could have just been upset that I was beating him all by myself. Then again, it was that way when I joined the match - I just ran with it and kept up the momentum.

Yes..that's the "right" way.

Even maybe the server owners doesn't know they have a "jerk" admin

who uses his privileges and "power" in "bad" way.

For me been an admin beyond the power he possesses-must have understandings,

patience to public.

IMHO Remember..being an admin-its like you welcoming guests at YOUR home.

Make them feel comfortable/guide them to behave when you see something goes wrong

and FAR finally, take measures when you see things aren't "work out".

BAN..is THE LAST solution for UBER-HARDCORE-SERIOUS PROBLEMS

-Being a server admin for my former clan i NEVER Banned a person...and i have encountered

many bad players-i heard many bad things (even for my country) ..but i just

KICKED after a sum of warnings.

I've seen admin's do this also when people try to connect with the ACE mod.

This is one reason why public ban lists should never happen.

Have you actually saw admin BAN people just for using ACE?

Folks are taking this on the wrong tangent.

Firstly nothing was mentioned about the use of ACE, so it has no relevance here

What I meant was contact the server admins directly, explain the situation that you believe you have been banned but have no idea why. They will need your userid to check their banlist and hopefully if they are organised and if an admin did ban you, they would have logged the reason why

I have.

It was used as a last resort though because the people using it refused

to remove it before joining the server and it was causing major problems.

I just had the exact same issue/message last night. First time taking ARMA online since grabbing BAF.

I continuously kept getting that message and getting dropped from the servers. Once was able to stay for a few minutes before I was "banned."

Does anyone know what this message means? Is it an incompatibility in versions or something?

I might add that the list of servers was very short, I'd say 30ish. I don't recall there being that few servers when I installed OA after having played ARMA2 for a few months...

Frustrating.

If you really get the message "you were banned" or similar, it was the server admin who banned you for a reason. Contact him for an explaination.

Of there was no such message, you might be using addons that are not allowed by the server, or BattlEye has problems.

Huh...I posted another message earlier but it seems to have never made it...

Long story short:

1 time got the ban message was 1 other on the server. Might have been the admin waiting for friends or something. Every other time has been the before mentioned message and am dropped from a server.

Had a sound mod that was launched with some 3rd party launcher for ARMA2. Am of the understanding that if I launch the game with its usual icon the mod isn't applied. Is this incorrect? Has not been an issue before last night.

Was advised by an acquaintance to modify a file located in the "Documents" folder to adjust AI accuracy to make a more realistic offline experience. Asked if it would conflict with playing online. Was told it would not as the hosts file is what's used on the server. Is this incorrect?

Thanks for the help.

I know that there is a hackermod that can ban people and admins alike, overruling the real admins authority but you wont be sure about this until you get more information on how this came to be. I know being banned is very nasty but if all else fails just come and play on our servers :D Some admins just act like this because of the need for control / power. And in the worst case it can be used to get cheater-suspects out of the server: what i call martial law is used to maintain control of the server kicking every suspect until the order is returned.

@DangerMouse6

Question1: Arrowhead had a build in addons/ expantion launcher called : Expansions, only with the beta patch can you use the old -mod=@addon method. You can in OA see in the main screen upper right corner if you have loaded any mods ;)

Question2: The server cfg should overrule your private setting, but the server admin can choose to use all levels or just a specific one

I think you are wrong there: Ofc. the official patch also allows for the -mod command line option

If you get fed up with online play - download Domination and save it in the MPMissions folder in your Program Files/Arma2.

Multiplayer - host LAN - load Domination - then you can play by yourself.

I have it setup like this with scripts to spawn reinforcements to my group and support from tanks, helos, mortars etc.

It's useful for when I'm away from home and can't get an internet connection. You can still have fun / practice.

I run my own server and administrate it with one other trusted person. I have noticed since the last patch we have been getting auto bans in the ban folder approx 14 so far. I check the ban folder every day and clear it out. Now I no that I`m not banning anyone and my other admin aint so not sure why this is happening....

In our server config we use the following lines;

onUnsignedData = "kick (_this select 0)"; // unsigned data detected

onHackedData = "ban (_this select 0)"; // tampering of the signature detected

onDifferentData=""; // data with a valid signature, but different version than the one present on server detected

BattlEye=1; //Server to use BattlEye system

So the only reason has it appears to me is that tampering with the sig has been detected!

Also you could have been a victim of a hacker, they hack server and have been known to kick ban players, especially the admin players :j:

Tho that should have happened when you were online and you should have noticed it, if you were not afk during the night and found your game back in serverlist in the morning.
