wiggum2 31 Posted August 21, 2010 (edited) Call Of Namalsk - SP Mini-Campaign ...unfinished ! While working on a simple zombie-script i remind myself about the great island Namalsk by Sumrak. So i downloaded it and messed around with some effects scripts and light sources. And with a flashlights you get a real survival-horror feeling... So i had the idea to make a mini-campaign with a story inspired by the movie Stalker and the novel Roadside Picnic. To play the campaign you will need Arma 2 - Combined Operations and the only required addons will be the Namalsk island and Schnapsdrosels Desert Mercenaries and BlackOps. The campaign will contain 5 small to medium size story-driven missions where you will have to fight against zombies, mutant dogs and other mercenarys. That guy and i currently work on the story and mission-design. A short teaser of the story: Feb 1997 All my preparations are complete. Though it has taken a considerable amount of time, I have finally convinced one of the local fishermen to ferry me to Namalsk. He was the only one willing to do it, and his asking price was very excessive. Almost all of my down payment has been used up. For the past few days I have been looking to fill all the blank spaces that Frank has left in my mind. Information has been very hard to come by. But it seems Namalsk use to be occupied by the Soviet Government. The Island also seems to have been abandoned around the time of the reformations. This makes sense to me. But, I still don’t know what is on this island that is so important. My only guesses are some sort of research station, weather station, or most likely (due to our proximity to the USA) an early warning radar/Anti-Air installation. When questioned, many people had never heard of "Namalsk". Some of the locals that did know of it think that the island is haunted. "Strange lights" and people never returning. I don’t buy it. MI-17s, and early warning radars produce "strange lights". Humans produce "strange lights" where ever they go. Locals probing to close to a sensitive installation they have no business with will tend to not return. I should not pay much attention to the paranoid muttering of superstitious fishermen… But, that is far from the most disturbing information I have found: it seems that there are others like myself who have traveled to Namalsk in the recent past; Groups of explorers and treasure hunters, armed to the teeth. They seem to think that there is something on that island worth money. Maybe they struck gold? We will see in the coming days. Wish me luck. by That guy Some Screenshots: Edited November 3, 2010 by Wiggum
That guy 10 Posted August 21, 2010 depending on how "survival horror" you want the game to be, i have a couple of suggestions for a very survivaly game :D. I made my self a little zombie survival mission a couple years ago in arma 1. the mission was real basic, mostly a dusk tour of Klurs island with a some zombies :p but anyway, basically you started alone somewhere on the island in a random spot, and had to find your way to the safe zone. it used ACE. you had no map and an AKM with 1 or 2 mags. (i borrowed these scripts from the great Quarantine mission.) there were ammo crates and stuff hidden around for you to find too. anyway, i gave the ammo crates and the zombies random items in their inventory. this could range from a weapon, to ammo, or medkits, or more vitally a map anyway, you could do something similar for the opening of the game. your character is somehow stranded on namalisk via chopper crash, boat crash, or something similar. you have lost everything (including your map, compass, radio watch etc) save a weapon and a mag or 2. you are cold, hurt and scared and need to find shelter (a safe zone). then suddenly, ZOMBIES! the zombies could have some items on them like ammo and the other items you need (via script similar to the one i used). the rest of the campaign would be the "stalkers'" journey to escape the cursed island. along they way he could meet some others who dont shoot on site, and who could provide some guidance as to why some things are happening. hmm, im thinking a bit of eagle wing (end of the world), only with zombies and even more ill equipped. somehow capture that same feeling of isolation and fear as that mission... its currently late, so i will add to or modify this post later (in case of discrepancies or incomplete ideas, or not good inglish ;))
wiggum2 31 Posted August 21, 2010 (edited) Thanks for the suggestions That guy ! Have you already played the "Demo" (Demonstration Mission) ? Ammunition will be goods in short supply in this campaign for sure. I will try to get a script working to remove all magazins except one or two from dead enemy soldiers. In most missions (or most of the time) you will fight against human soldiers, the zombies and evil dogs should not be the main enemy in this campaign. Kommiekat 11 Posted August 22, 2010 Just place the folder in your Documents/ArmA2/missions folder. Go to the editor and open it, press preview to play.[/b] I've been wondering how to do this. I know this is so noobish and I should have figured it out by this time but I haven't. So, how do I open a mission in editor?? (so embarrassed).

(so embarrassed). The file you download is a .zip file. Open it and you will see a folder called Zomb.namalsk. Copy this folder to -> (my) Documents/ArmA2/missions. Open the editor ingame, go to "Load", select Namalsk and below you should be abel to choose "Zomb". Load it and then push "Preview". ;)
Sumrak 6 Posted August 24, 2010 Unfortunately i don't have OA, so, i had to remove OA soldiers and weapons first from mission.sqm, but, even without flashlight, demo mission looks very promising, atmosphere is nice, keep up good work Wiggum ;)
katipo66 94 Posted August 25, 2010 Hey Wiggum, nice, spooky... i loved stalker, and this island is the most atmospheric there is in Arma, and whats better is since i got OA it runs a whole lot smoother so be cool to see what you come up with, any plan to use the stalker units available? Zipper5 74 Posted August 25, 2010 The STALKER unit models don't go too well with the Arma 2 animations and thus they look quite odd in places. I'd advise against him using them.
That guy 10 Posted August 25, 2010 (edited) his intent is to only use default units, and namalsk. no other addons :) Edited August 27, 2010 by That guy
wiggum2 31 Posted August 26, 2010 @ Sumrak Thanks for your feedback ! @ Katipo66 I will not add the STALKER units. Like Zipper5 said, they have very buggy animations. And aside from that i think i dont need them, they would not fit the story because they look too sci-fi.
katipo66 94 Posted August 26, 2010 Hey man all good, i wasn't requesting them, just curious

wiggum2 31 Posted September 4, 2010 (edited) Mission 1 is nearly completed, i will release it tomorrow for testing ! I hope i will get some useful feedback this way... :) And i am currently searching for voice-actors. All you need is a normal male voice (native english or american speaker / russian accent is ok). You should be able to sound seriously. The voice should not be too high pitched. There isent that much text so it should not be too stressful... :p If you are interested just PM me ! wiggum2 31 Posted September 5, 2010 (edited) Ok guys, here is the BETA of the first mission ! My name is Vladimir Ivanov I am a former Red Army soldier who has…fallen on hard times. Today I travel to the remote island of Namalsk. Here, I am to locate 2 missing scientists, and return them safely to Moscow for a man who will not tell me his name… My troubles are just beginning The fishing boat I hired was caught in a surprise storm and has sunk I was plunged into the frigid water along with all my gear By the grace of god I survived long enough to make it to shore… DOWNLOAD NOW! Please give me feedback ! I need to know: did you encounter any bugs ? do you like the style of the mission ? do you like the voice acting ? is the tutorial text too annoying ? is it too hard or too easy ? did you always know what do do or was it not clear enough ? Zipper5 74 Posted September 6, 2010 Cool! Could you upload it somewhere else, though? Like Filefront? Avast blocks that website due to it being a malicious URL for some reason.
katipo66 94 Posted September 6, 2010 Hey Wiggum, i could only have a quick run around and made it too the fire.... and got shot :D One observation maybe the voice was to low/quiet? it was hard to make out what he was saying through the rain... or maybe im deaf. I was surprised to see the map gone, but it was cool just to rely on compass... is it possible to have a torch effect on the map, i asked this elsewhere and the replies suggested to hard, but would be cool That blood effect is friggen awesome! For the little bit i played the tutorial was all good, actually handy since im in the dark. Anyway ill play some more when i get time.... I really loved stalker and i like the feel of this so far bro, and Namalsk is one awesome map! Good work!

I have to wait for some more feedback about that. You dont have a map because all your gear (except your pistol and compass) got lost. ;) Edited September 6, 2010 by Wiggum
langgis08 10 Posted September 6, 2010 (edited) all I've read that was written by the Strugatzki brothers or that I've played/watched that was inspired by their novels is great & very intelligent, so I'll check this out, too. "Glück für alle, umsonst, niemand soll erniedrigt von hier fortgehn!" - like "Happiness for everyone, for free, no-one shall leave from here humiliated!" thx Sumrak, Wiggum, The Guy for this project and sharing the spirit of "The Zone" with the community  EDIT: first impression "WOW ! A new game :-)" ... and very scary, indeed, will keep windows closed when I'll go for a longer walk on Namalsk ! atmosphere is really zone-like ... very well done Edited September 7, 2010 by langgis08

Great that you like it. :) And yes, you have done something wrong i think... Have you gone to the campfire (close) to actually warm up ? This takes some time (~20sec) but you get a hint "stay close to campfire for some time" and the task complete message after you are dry enough... ;) Edited September 6, 2010 by Wiggum
