Autopilot in planes

Recommended Posts

as the title suggests, it would be good to have an autopilot feature for those moments when you have to immideaitely leave the keyboard, been stung a few times after buying a jet in warfare, only to have someone knock on the door or the phone ring, would be great if it was possible to put the plane in autopilot. (say circling at 3000m or something basic like that)

^^

Because you can pause the game in MP.

And no, don't add an autopilot feature, it's just a really stupid suggestion.

Best not to answer the door or phone anyway, just some asshat trying to sell you new windows.

The only exception is when you have ordered a delivery pizza, then answering the door mid game is legit.

An autopilot would be handy for these moment but you would probably just be a sitting duck anyway. Currently your best solution is to just bail out, open chute and go answer the door in the hope that no sniper is going to kill you while you chute down.

Kiss your plane and the money goodbye and enjoy the walk back to base once you have eaten your pizza.

Circling in one spot will get you killed anyway...better land the plane, hide it in a shelter near a defended airbase and go on later...there is a landing autopilot.

Enable the landing aitopilot and answer the phone. The plane will circle a while, looking for the inflight path. You will have lots of time to answer the phone and explain that you're busy bombing a fictional country.

The only time I've missed heading and altitude hold, is when I'm doing stuff in the editor and is "flying" the aircraft while in the debug tool trying to make commands work. It just recently occurred to me that I could have used setAcctime.

So, no, it's not really needed.

How to avoid your specific problems in the first place? Play with headphones. Play LOUD - problem solved :D

heh, yeah some good suggestions there, i guess auto landing will do the job, although the approach is a bit low and slow, leaving you vulnerable to SAM's.

i guess its not realistic to pull out the phone or stuff your face with pizza while flying a fighter jet anyway.

Things like that wouldn't be possible now but in the past maybe it was considered standard behaviour to eat or do something else distracting whilst flying. The P-47 Thunderbolt had an ashtray in the cockpit...

You will have lots of time to answer the phone and explain that you're busy bombing a fictional country.

You have just won the thread, congratulations.
