Admins: PLEASE ALLOW @ACEX_SM!!!!

I know I know, Ace crashes vanilla OA servers, but I am just using the Ace sound mod (@ACEX_SM) as I cannot stand listening to that useless wet-fart AK sound any more...:mad:

I have tested ACEX_SM on several vanilla OA servers, playing for 8-10 hours and there are no, none, zero stability issues (the sound mod is totally benign and has no effect on the server)

So please (actually begging now), all you admins with sig signing on, please allow @ACEX_SM - it is a masterpiece of weapon sound design and improves the atmosphere and immersion of OA so much!

(In case BIS read this - I still love all the vehicle sounds & occlusion in OA, its just the weapons I don't like: you guys are still awesome :D )

The ACE soundmod is allowed on my warfare server as it seems the be the only complete sound mod for OA at this time.

Yeah those guys are weird... they won't allow a sound mod? Okay... I can see people not wanting actual ACE on the server, but it's a sound mod. It's no different from HiFi, Sounds of War or VOP.

yes... I run a vanilla server too, but what's the issue with allowing sound mods? Some people really hate the vanilla sounds (I do for one)

If you have a server where you can either run ACE_SM or not you should be happy. The other admins decide on what they want on their servers and not what somebody wants them to do. Of course suggestions are allowed, this is already a small flame war.

Sorry but I have no probs with vanilla sounds, and neither do any of my team mates, IF they put a request in to run with a sound mod, then we will.

There is nothing wrong asking to allow certain addons on a server, but this is the wrong place. You should ask the admin of the specific server where you play often, not all admins at once.

Take a guess how MP would be affected if 1000 ppl had 1000 suggestions which addons to allow and which not. It would be the end. :D

It's not about disagreement, it's about arrogant and obnoxious attitudes by certain admins, revealed by the manner in which they have responded to this request thread.

The reason I prefer not to respond to some of these unhelpful, rather conceited people is that the post would quickly derail into an OT abyss. Therefore, I repeat that I am grateful for any consideration by the more open-minded admins out there. The others, who clearly find the very idea of the public requesting certain mods on their public servers to be impudent and offensive, need not give it a further thought and should carry on happily with their righteous little lives.

Hey Mandrake, don't get me wrong, to a degree you have a legit request here, but you seem to miss a few points:

Why would any admin allow the ACEX_SM soundmod if not requested specifically by their community? Just FYI, every additional mod means work for the admin, because he has to track and install updates and at the end provide service for it in case something causes errors on the client or server side. How do I know that mod X works well with mod Y on my server? Right, by testing. Work.

Thats why many admins keep the number of allowed add-ons to a neccessary minimum, based upon actual player's preferences.

It is one thing to get in contact with the admin of the server(s) you play on and ask them if they can allow it, and I am sure you will have much more success compared to broadcasting it on this forum and expect anyone to follow.

And to be honest, calling admins arogant and obnoxious for having valid reasons not to allow every single one of the 1000's of mods out there is not really helpful.

Qwertz, I appreciate your reasonable reply, but please look back over some of the responses ('my server is none of your business', 'go buy your own server' etc.) and I hope you'll see why I used the word arrogant (and obnoxious).

IMO your argument is valid in general, however ACE_SM is very much a known quantity and requires very little work to allow it on a server (I'm an admin myself). If I had thought for one minute I was imposing on people's time in a big way then I would not have made such a flippant request.

Regarding targeting specific servers - I play a lot of Warfare across a wide range of public servers. After the release of OA, many admins had problems with ACE mods crashing vanilla OA servers. On many servers the immediate (and understandable) response was to ban all mods. The point of my thread is to efficiently inform as many public server admins as possible that ACEX_SM poses no stability issues and so can safely be permitted. I see no problem with using the community hub (this forum) to broadcast this request to all who would care to read it.

Again, I appreciate your response; I disagree respectfully on the workload involved in granting my request and feel it is important to 'speak out' when you want something to get done. As an admin of a public server, I consider the wishes of my clients important and would never flatly turn down a polite request (as several readers of this thread have done).

Lastly, I hope you appreciate that I was in no way branding 'admins' arrogant, just those individuals who displayed such indignation at my original request. I hope that much is made clear.
