xArmalloc - Custom memory allocator for Arma 3
spektykles posted a topic in ARMA 3 - COMMUNITY MADE UTILITIES
Hi, Originally I made this custom memory allocator as a fun project because I dreaded of slow A3 performance. Features 64-bit only custom memory allocator for Arma 3 Based on Intel Threading Building Blocks (TBB) 2018 Update 4 Large Page support Optimized for both AMD and Intel CPU with AVX/AVX2 Drop-in replacement for BI-provided TBB4 malloc How to install You can read the installation guide in the ZIP package. Notes Not BattlEye compatible. I only tested INTEL64 AVX2 binary on my own PC (i7-8750h with RTX 2070). I cant afford to test all binaries. As an unwanted side effect, some trainers/cheats will not working or crash if you use this custom memory allocator 😁 Performance could be better or worst. I am not responsible if something happens to your games or PC. I am not taking any profits or benefits from this. Virus-free: VirusTotal result (scanned with 60+ engines) . Only one false positive with one of the binaries, I already contacted the AV gave me false positive result. (fixed) Source code will be uploaded once I clean up the code (I built this long time ago and just recently dusting it up). If you have any question or report about this please contact me via this thread/forum or "spektykles" on official Arma 3 Discord server. I am all ears 😀 Download ZippyShare -
Some of you who followed my stream know that I was able to put my hands on two great rigs, thanks to the good colleagues and friends I have (kudos to them). I did spend a bit of time to benchmark both rigs - that differ only in the CPU and Motherboard - to get an idea on which one was "best" for ArmA 3 in 2020. Some details on the testing: the benchmark scenario is YAAB v1.0 created by Greenfist each setting (low/ultra) was tested 5 times and I picked the best of 5 the delta was consistently ~2 fps for each run, in both rigs this means that the difference in % between the worst AMD run and the worst Intel run is the same difference between the average AMD and the average Intel.. and the same between the best AMD and the best Intel I did run the same background tasks and killed unnecessary things, trying to keep things as consistent as possible I did keep the NVIDIA Drivers the same (the latest released at the time of the test) Things I want to make clear: I am not bashing any brand or taking a side, I do not own any of the two rigs I compared so I am not even attached to them on financial grounds I'd be happy to answer your questions in case you are about to spend money and want to have more info before committing I am not an expert at overclocking but I did document myself at the best of my possibilities before committing (especially in order to avoid breaking stuff that is not mine) I did get a lot of help from people in here, namely Oldbear, Groove_C and Tankbuster, plus on other channels by other people I am opening this thread so it's easier to find for future reference I had fun making this comparison and I hope this is as much fun to you when watching it I noticed AMD vs Intel topics can get pretty toxic (as if other threads wouldn't) but I know the ArmA 3 community knows better See you on the field

Arma + Threadripper + hyperthreading option leads to artifacts
Sycholic posted a topic in ARMA 3 - TROUBLESHOOTING
Not sure if anyone has tried or reported this. Apparently when I apply the 'hyperthreading' (aka multi-threading option) start to get blinking/artifacts dealing with shadows with my 1950x TR. Should I be using this option for a non Intel or not? if not, am I multithreading still? Given I got 16cores/32threads to use, brings up a important question as to if arma can even effectively use my CPU to it's fullest or does the game need to be updated for even this possiblity? Any feedback would be appreciated.- 5 replies

I'm using an AMD HD 6970 and used to get around around 40fps on high settings, 1680x1050. After the Tanoa install, my fps dropped to around 30fps on Altis and 25 fps on Tanoa. So I'm planing to upgrade to the latest AMD GPUs. I know BIS is a wintel nvidia gameworks shop and for that AMD GPU owners have to accept being treated as second class users but a disparity of over 50% between similar price/performance category GPUs is remarkable. The only reasoning I can get out of this is development efforts spent on only one vendor platform while AMD users are left to their own. I will still be getting an AMD GPU as there are other task I benefit from it; deciding between the RX-470 and RX-480. I hope BIS developers will take note the this unjust disparity and work with AMD towards giving your AMD GPU customers a bit better experience with ARMA 3.

Just thought I mention that the game runs pretty good with the recent AMD beta driver release (not open-source one). In fact allot of games run pretty good now, and I run at 4k with a 390x card, the website says only certain cards work, but what AMD was meant to say is those cards are whats tested. Many have it running on other hardware. A few things to note for new whipper snappers. 1) Driver works on more then whats listed, even reports of people with GCN1.0 hardware getting it working. 2) Is UBUNTU based for the moment as its beta 3) I have tested it with Kernel 4.6 and that works well, your mileage may vary with older kernels. 4) Mutter and certain Window Managers can cause WHITE SCREEN issue, I use compton without any troubles. 5) You need a patch to resolve Feral Interactive Games not working (not ARMA3 luckily), COH2 doesn't do so well performance wise but SOM is GREAT! -ask me if you need a link to the patch url 6) Follow AMD instructions on website closely, be sure to install Vulkan part also, it really is quite easy, if you get any issues try uninstalling and reinstalling driver. Note down any issues you face and come ask, I 'MAY' be able to help.
