  1. @Richie I did have a spelling mistake and that in turn made TB blind to the Layer.cfg path So,.....you know everything is honky dory when it takes over an hour to start you Bulldozer ! Edit: When BD stopped, it came up with an error. I wished I had gotten a screeny but it said something about could not find a certain file ending in .hpp. I messed around with it last night again and got this and here is a quick rundown, I have to hurry off to work so I might have missed some info =============================================================================================================================================================== http://i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p492/chik1978/Arma/Terrain%20Mod/ScreenHunter_25%20Sep.%2020%2008.48.jpg Odd thing is, this particular file does not exist, although that may be the whole point.   2. OMG, that Atlas guide is the cats meow !. Between that, and CAPTAINCAPS vid's, the fog is lifting. Couldn't wait 'till today so I took a bite last night. Here are a couple of issues I ran into. I'm sure minor and and I will check spelling and whatnot today. I have checked for any typos and all of that seems good When I go to Map Frame Properties, and press Generate Layer, I get this error.... 1) http://i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p492/chik1978/Arma/Terrain%20Mod/ScreenHunter_24%20Sep.%2017%2023.54.jpg Then if I ignore the previous error and press ok, I get this error.... 2) http://i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p492/chik1978/Arma/Terrain%20Mod/ScreenHunter_23%20Sep.%2017%2022.59.jpg I noticed also in a few other terrain Source files there are mask images and normal images. Purpose and tut/s on how to acquire them? Of course I will Google them but since I'm posting.... :D @ROF I don't expect you to spend a lot of time detailing for me even though it is very much appreciated but a simple nudge in the right direction and I at least I know which way to direct my search. That is most useful. I searched for hours on the subject of "stitching", as CAPTAINCAPS explained but could not find anything that jumped out at me. As you said, It's done in Terrain Builder so I will turn every rock over there. Edit: One more catastrophe,....when I start Bulldozer, it will not move. I've played (practiced) with it quite a bit previously but now it does nothing. (This may be for another topic however)

    -boat (only the initial one): "I'm not sure what you mean exactly so the following may not be relevant. @Rydygier I don't remember if I read in the Patrol Ops thread if you had lent a hand in that mission. I played a short one this week and was able to respawn on a "respawn Point" by setting up a tent. This creates an element of realism, plus it makes you make a life and death decision (risk). If you wait to long you might get whacked and have to respawn all the way back at the boat, if you set up to early, you might have to walk a long way to help your buddy. Incidentally, if you create one of the respawn options, as being the boat, that boat might be a very long way from the other player, and if that other player is the server, the client player may, 1) not see the mission objects because he is too far away, and 2) because the client player is so far away, the fps might suffer,.....and visa versa.

    @rsoftokz @Rydygier ...and others Even if everyone can't agree on what should be and what shouldn't be part of the Pilgrimage "franchise" :P ,...and even if your efforts don't always work as planned, I still think it's great that you are willing to meet the challenges. You guys get better and we get to continue having a great time!

    Terrain creator

    Just starting to get my prerequisites in order and doing a LOT of reading. I am making my sat image.png Using software called Ultimate Maps Downloader , I have acquired my Google Earth data, but I have downloaded it in 5 different formats and added the file size for viewing (see below). This is only about a fifth of the island in question so as you can see, the file vary greatly in size. Ultimate Maps Downloader seems to have a limit so I am forced to download the whole island into 5 sections and then stitch them. This brings up another problem. Panoramic assembly also has size limits on any software I have been able to find. 1) Google Satellite_1.JPG = 42.1 MB 2) Google Satellite_2.PNG = 547MB MB 3) Google Satellite_3.GIF = 42.1 MB 4) Google Satellite_4.BMP = 1.7G 5) Google Satellite_5 TIFF = 454MB My questions are:, Which type of file is best suited for building maps, and I would also like to know why? Those of you who are experienced, can you suggest methods for downloading and stitching, that I may not be aware of? I have seen some terrains in a partially made state and notice that they have terrain background of the satellite image in the Editor as well as in game. How is this done and was this done with the islands Stratis and Altis? Lastly, if anyone is interested in offering there expertise when ever I need help either by PM or even more personally, Email, I would be so grateful. This project is already a bit overwhelming, and waiting for answers can be agonizingly slow. Thanks so far!

    Re: the respawn issue Stiffy and I played a few of the Tanoa Coop scenarios and found that the respawn feature they had worked really well. It had the menu come up after you died with optional (I'm not in favor of too many options, makes it too easy) places to respawn. What I liked was the fact that if you found a tent (maybe that item could be randomized on enemy troops) you could pitch it and that could be one of the spawn points as well. I like the fact that if you get all wrapped up in the killing and move far along, then end up dead, you have start your ass way back at the tent. I'm wondering if BI would let you look at the system they used.

    Hello Mr. kerogan I am just learning how incredibly complicated it is to create a terrain. That said, I am still interested in creating something. I had (have,....maybe :( ) my sights set on another island but I bumped into this thread and I thought I might investigate. I have two questions 1) how big is this terrain?, and 2) would you be willing to spend a little time to help me get going on it? I've downloaded everything but need a bit of help sorting through it so that I can move forward. I've made maps for other games so I have a bit of know how but Arma seems just a bit more complex. Thanks !

    Understanding that AI are probably unable to "climb" because of the reasons stated, I can't help wondering (hoping) that maybe they could still "climb" but only over walls and fences??? Kinda like they did in Crysis.

    True, CUP mod will allow Afghani rebels to randomly populate armed with AK's, and those prehistoric but nontheless deadly launchers. They will alsp hunt you down while driving around in those beat up old range rovers armed with 50 cal's.
