When will the nVidia Arma 3 optimized drivers come?
clydefrog replied to Alabatross's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
In this case why do the system specs state that an Intel Core i5-2300 or AMD Phenom II X4 940 is recommended when really it sounds like there isn't much point in buying such a processor for this game. -

It's nothing to do with view distance, I bet most people are playing with about 2000 which is low and still getting poor framerate on multiplayer games. On arrowhead I can put view distance up to about 5 or 6000 and still get decent framerate. Telling people with new i5's and i7's and whatever AMD's to buy new processors because that's their problem? You're talking complete rubbish. If the problem was just that the game is CPU heavy it would be maxing out peoples CPU's wouldn't it, not using just over half of what's available to it. It's a CPU intensive game that doesn't know how to use a CPU intensively (and especially multicore ones) which equals bad performance. -

The game only uses about 65% of my CPU at the most (i5 2500K), a similar thing is happening for most people. This suggests to me that it's completely a fault with the games optimisation. ---------- Post added at 21:28 ---------- Previous post was at 21:15 ---------- I find it funny how when Arma 3 is released is when I STOP playing it, so far it has been a bigger let down than BF3 was at the time that came out and I never thought any other game would be a bigger let down than that. For it to be the sequel to the game I like the most and have spent by far the most amount of time playing, that's pretty disappointing. Maybe if the thing ran well that would be a bit of an improvement and maybe enough to make me consider playing it ever again. -
95 for graphics and 84 for audio is VERY generous

Disapointed with the full release content

nevermind -
It's a game, not a simulator, deal with it.
-
That's such a stupid thing to say. So if somebody likes Arma 2 but not Arma 3, then they should wait for COD or BF4 because "that might be more to your liking" even though Arma "is NOTHING like COD or BF4". :Oo: by the way I see you've finally come to terms with the fact Arma is a game and not a simulator.
-
If that's true about Arma 4, it's probably because they have realised like a lot of other people probably have that this engine can't cut it in the future (it barely does now) and they have no alternative.
-
beta version, alpha state is probably what he means. Come on, it's not exactly looking like anything near a finished game at the moment is it.

Will keeping the Dev Branch end up splitting the community ?
clydefrog replied to rebb's topic in ARMA 3 - QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
Mission designers would have to be mental to be using the development branch after the game is released, imo. -
Well in that case they should add it. But I'm pretty sure it would all be static water if they did put it in as it seems like the engine can't do running water. Did the rivers actually have running water or was it still?

Possibly, like I said I don't think they will ruin an authentic environment by adding water features to it that shouldn't be there, but you never know what they're going to do these days. Never seen any puddles on chernarus, where are they? I'm sure they could make them though with the same type of water that the ponds use.

If you want all this stuff you should find another game, because Arma won't be getting it while it's using this engine. Regarding water, they've based this map on what it's actually like there, I doubt they will add things like ponds when there shouldn't be any just to make it less dry, it's meant to be dry. I'm pretty sure running water must be impossible in the RV engine because I've never seen it done. I've never seen a puddle in any arma game either. All the farm stuff and extra objects like furniture would probably just make the performance even worse. I doubt the engine is capable of the destruction stuff, the best it can do with that is make an object disappear through the ground while spawning a damaged version of it in the same place, that's as good as you're going to get in this game. And maybe a 2D crater on the ground when something explodes.

Anyways, as I said the game needs more faces. Arma 2 has over 140 faces, Arma 3 has about 30 - 40 and the fact there are only 3 persian faces in cfgFaces, and even 1 of them is a copy of another one with a beard stuck on is not good at all.
-
So why are they speaking english then, because this is the whole reason you wrote them off as being tourists in the first place. There is no point discussing this stuff with you because you blindly defend every thing that isn't right with the game and have some excuse for it, in your eyes BI can do no wrong, well whatever makes you happy.
-
read my edit, they are greek civilians, they are not tourists, maybe instead of defending them as being tourists you should be telling BIS that they have not clothed their civilians authentically.
-
God, the civilians are not tourists, they are the people who live on the island. They use the greek faces, stop trying to defend everything that's wrong with it. By the way speaking of the faces, I see there is still only a small selection of faces in the cfgFaces, I hope this is temporary as that's yet another area where this game is lacking. There are only 3 different persian faces, and 2 of them are the same except one has a beard!

Buzzard turning slightly right on take off

Well the F-35 has that in Arma 2 but so far in arma 3 they've gone back in time with the jet, not into the future like with everything else. -

also it's the future. -

My main issue with the HUD is there is no flight path marker, why would they leave that out? -
Have you ever considered the possibility that BIS have loads of revenue from Arma 2 sales and VBS that they could have invested in the development of Arma 3, but seemingly chose not to? Also you don't need to be asking people here to finance them, every person on this forum has already bought the game. Some people get the impression they are some small company struggling for money, I think they are maybe doing much better than those people think they are doing. I don't know that, it's just what I think. I also think that rather than invest that money into Arma 3 by employing more people to work on models, sound or whatever, they've decided not to thereby not losing so much of the money they have made from said sales. Anyways it's not up to me or anybody else here how BIS decides to spend their money, they have made it themselves and they have the right to do whatever they want with it.

Personally not much, I would like it to run well, have decent AI, have good quality sound so we don't have to rely on mods for it (although since we do I'm very grateful for JSRS) and not have BLUFOR and OPFOR sides using a bunch of the same vehicles and weapons with the same turret on all of them. That's pretty much it and I'd call those fairly realistic and low expectations.

Have fun playing Arma 5 getting 20fps on your 32 core 10Ghz CPU in 10 years time while getting stuck on rocks and aimbotted by AI in spaceships from the other side of the planet in 2023 (in game year 4096BC somewhere in the andromeda galaxy). ---------- Post added at 22:49 ---------- Previous post was at 22:45 ---------- Yes, I'm an agent from EA like all the other people on here who are unhappy with certain things about the game, remember?
-
Yes that's the problem, it's stuck with it unfortunately and it could mean that if they don't develop a new one and just keep updating it a little bit each time they bring a new game out (while still keeping the long standing issues that they can't solve), then Arma will maybe eventually just die out as this engine surely won't be able to go on another decade.
