  1. I've been trying to change the view distance on my server. I'm using a clean mpmission i created with one player unit. I've tried setting viewDistance=10000 in the Arma3Profile and basic.cfg files, but it refuses to change the view distance in my test mission or any other.     Thanks for the info belbo. I decided to go with CHVD: http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=27454 Mostly so it doesn't look like you're stuck in a snow globe when flying around.

    So each mission would need to be edited in order to change the view distance? 0_o Or is there a global init.sqf that can be placed somewhere?
  4. Have you tried running the server with "-maxmem=2047"? Some missions really need that extra memory to load properly on Linux.

  9. To continue the thread that was started during the Alpha back in February, this is where we currently stand: Seven months on (to the day) it would be nice to hear an update from the developers on what the plans are surrounding the mysterious JVM and Java scripting.
  10. Got it running on wine 1.7.0 but there were serious issues with the enemy AI (it would spin around on the spot, ignore players and warp around). I am currently running it on a VM (win7 guest) and while IO performance is bad (no SSDs or ramdisks) I can at least assure the players and mission makers that everything is working as it should (within normal arma parameters ;)).

  12. I was using the Linux server from the sticky with the rest of the required content downloaded via Steam (using a VM). A friend of mine was toying with mission editing and had access to the machine but he hasn't logged in for a month. According to ntop it was sending stuff over port 21.
  13. Got the same thing here, just a couple of hours ago. Killed a2oa since its not being used atm anyway.
  14. Ran the server with only -cpucount=8 and it stayed up for about 5 hours before it segfaulted while running the 16 player CTI map. I played a bit at the start and 10 minutes before it crashed and had about 10 people playing on the server towards the end. Performance wise it seemed comparable to ArmA2, but my memory is a bit fuzzy tbh; the fps was at 20-25 with it dipping blow 20 every now and then. Nobody seemed to desync and as far as I could tell there was no JIP lag (this seems more wrong to me than anything ;)).

  16. After disconnecting while plaing a custom mission a slot was still being used accoding to the server browser. I tried reconnecting but I was stuck on "waiting for host." Other than the server fps issues the default Superpowers mission seems to be running fine.
  17. We've disabled most checks on our server which might be why you are able to join it but not the other ones. However, two people I know are not able to join as they get stuck at the "Wait for host" screen, though I might just have to restart the server.

    When playing as a commander I always crash when build the third builder. It happens if I wait after building two builders too, and if I kill all the builders and then start over again.

    Valve, ID Software, Epic and Infinity Ward (and quite a few others I'm sure) are all serious about multiplayer and they show it by providing and supporting certain key features including (but not limited to) RCON (and a proper console for that matter), a stand alone dedicated server package and Linux server binaries. BIS has never been on top of the game as far as the "server/support" side goes which is a shame and a bit strange since there are some things that your game needs if you want to be serious about multiplayer. It's a shame because it means that there aren't as many servers as there could be, and they aren't as well administered as they should be - both being items that inevitably affect the experience of all players willing to dabble in multiplayer. Hopefully BIS will have a look at these (and many other) requests from the community when internally discussing the patch milestones and road maps for ArmA 2.
