We need Arma 3 on consoles

I think you're missing the point, console hardware is much weaker than most PC hardware and the console platform simply isn't as strong. optimization isn't magic, you dont wave a wand and poof the game is optimized and runs smooth as butter. there's all kinds of hardware and engine considerations you have to take into account. and its hard to clean up the way the engine works and the way the engine uses resources to make it run better. developers don't have an "optimize" button, its a complicated thing. and then we're not even mentioning how differently consoles run games compared to PCs. if its trimmed down into something totally different with a different experience can you truly call it the same game? at that point, its really just the same name. I don't think you understand this, Arma 3 as we have it on PC is simply not possible within the confines of a console's hardware and operation system. they just don't support all of the things Arma does. they don't work like that. this isn't PC elitism, this is simple facts. PCs and consoles work in different ways and do different things. they are NOT the same and do NOT have the same capabilities. unfortunately, Arma caters mostly to the capabilities of a PC. if you strip away all of that "PC specific" stuff from arma, you get a game like operation flashpoint dragon rising, and we should all know how that game went. I've never seen ANYONE say DayZ wouldn't work on console, it would work and it does work. DayZ is a very simple game, it doesn't really compare to arma at all. And all those other games? their console versions are the exact same as the PC versions, all of those were made for consoles, and all of those don't really match what arma does or is meant to do. these are apples to oranges comparisons and pretty darn invalid. look my dude, straw-man fallacies and personal insults aren't how you make an argument. I don't think you really have any idea what you're talking about and if I'm gonna be honest, for someone so ready to call others narrow-minded, you seem pretty narrow-minded yourself.

Rosche, Germany

just curious, with the the release of the Global Mobilization DLC and its variety of german structures, is there any chance of those replacing the legacy MBG houses from A2?

East Wind Rearmed

thank you for the kind words! the Gorgon and the BPz were something I was considering for a while, I guess I ended up passing because I didn't predict there being a significant need for a recovery vehicle and the Pandur II is still a fairly recent development, kind of expensive, but I could certainly revisit those ideas. the bergepanzer would be a pretty quick addition and I've always been a big fan of the Gorgon/Pandur II.

SOCMOD WIP THREAD

in recent years, mostly crye stuff. G3s or G3 style "cryefires", main difference with those being the drifire material used. some of the earlier drifires were AC/G2 styled but those weren't terribly common as far as I know. earlier on of course theres just a bunch of raid modded BDUs plus the occasional random thing rigged up by afghani locals. edit: sometimes G3 field pants can be seen as well, also not very common. to my knowledge, they've never really had patagonia L9s.

Arma 3 DLC - CONTACT

its not that the furniture was missing, its that the aliens took all the furniture man. but yeah, looking around the terrain so far, its a real work of art. very well made. EDIT: I didn't even see someone beat me to the joke, sad, sad day.

NO, BIS, NO.

he's free to have an opinion, and I'm in total support of people having opinions, but acting like this is going to kill the game or acting like BI has betrayed milsim is just plain silly, I guess thats the point I'm trying to make. this game will be as much milsim as it ever was. BI is at a point in the development cycle where they aren't interested in just making the bread and butter kind of stuff, they're trying new things. doesn't mean they've forsaken the old things, and it doesn't mean the old things we were already using stopped existing. the aliens bit is really only relevant to the First Contact campaign anyway, there's still a lot of other stuff coming with the expansion that should be very cool for traditional 'military' scenarios.

NO, BIS, NO.

nobody is forcing you to play with the aliens. all that hardcore military simulation stuff is there and nobody is stopping you from using it. and believe it or not, but the DLC will actually contains a ton of content that is useful for convention military scenarios, like the terrain, or the two new factions coming with it. you can sill create your own scenarios, and actually, this expansion will give you new and different tools to do that with, theres new tech like the ED-1D UGV or the spectrum device. the terrain is excellent for military situations with its rolling hills and its wealth of villages, industrial sites, and military bases. almost every arma player I've spoken with are excited about the expansion. some are definitely skeptical about the aliens concept, but excited for everything else. its not like this is going to ruin sales or prompt boycotts, its not scaring off droves of players. you're imagining things because you're upset that BI explored a new direction. you might find this hard to believe, but BI doesn't exist to cater to your wishes. they didn't do what you wanted, they did what they wanted, and if you can't appreciate that then I don't think you can really call yourself a fan of Arma or Bohemia Interactive. you should be glad that after 5 years they're still making new things for this game at all. oh and your little bit about employing "people that are dedicated and passionate about ArmA and the future? ( RHS for example?)", thats complete horseshit. the people who work at/under Bohemia Interactive are more dedicated and passionate about Arma than anyone else you will ever meet. RHS isn't inherently better or more passionate than BI, they just do something different, something that some people find more interesting than what BI does. that why mods exist.
14. Also curious about that. In particular, it seems the new Livonia terrain has ports of the DayZ chernarus structures, which I imagine could be useful especially for Katya.

Arma 3 DLC - CONTACT

16. the pbo file is how things are archived and packed to be loaded by the game. you need to have your config inside of a pbo, and then have that pbo inside of an 'addons' folder, inside the @<yourmodnamehere> folder inside the root a3 directory. you can pack pbos with a variety of tools, addonbuilder, which comes with the Arma 3 tools on steam (great resource if you plan on modding) is probably the best way to start packing pbos.
17. you just need to configure your faction class and your vehicle and weapon classes. cfgvehicles will include backpacks, turrets, soldiers, and obviously vehicles. cfgweapons will include weapons, headwear, facewear, vests, and uniform items (emphasis on item, to make a full uniform its a little complicated since you also have to technically create a solider class for it). for what I presume you plan on doing, all you'll really need to do is define the classes you plan on inheriting from and then define things you might want to change like displayname or hiddenselectionstextures if you want. for soldiers you'll need to config them from the ground up but its really just a matter of writing in what you want them to have. this thread should be extremely helpful, should lay everything out for you. http://www.armaholic.com/forums.php?m=posts&q=31238

DHI Battle Dress Uniforms

I think everything looks fine as it is and I do only have so much space on my drive. but its your mod and if thats what you wanna do I can't really argue with it.
19. you really don't need one, its a flat color already. just copy the things out that you dont want colored, greyscale the rest, and slap your camo or whatever on there.

RHS Escalation (AFRF and USAF)

you guys wouldn't happen to have an STG58 patttern handguard in that parts set would you?
21. strategic sites that are thoughtfully placed and nice to fight in and around, terrain elevation variation that is organic and beneficial to gameplay. I also like there to be a good balance between playability for armor and for infantry, open spaces for the tanks, but also areas where the infantry don't have to be completely wide open.

DHI Battle Dress Uniforms

speaking of ripstop or a lack thereof... is there any chance of winter-weight 50/50 nylon cotton BDUs?

DHI Battle Dress Uniforms

people do this? I had heard stories but I didn't think there was any merit to them...
24. i agree. I wouldn't have a problem spending 20 euro on something like this. and it would complement GM very well too, revoloving around a "cold war gone hot" situation the same. something to think about.
