Hunter123 10 Posted July 5, 2010 Operation Arrowhead: In the first misison where you play as the pilot, my ai gunner refuses to attack any hostiles with hydras. I told him to use them. He just uses his machine gun. Any ideas? I'm using ace and zeus.
Fishercat 10 Posted July 5, 2010 I'm pretty sure OA isn't compatable with ACE yet. They are working on it now, I believe. Try it without any mods and see if it works.
vinc3nt 10 Posted July 5, 2010 Some missiles (I’m not sure about hydras) are always aimed in front of a helicopter; and therefore require you (the pilot) to aim the front of the heli right at the target - at this point the Ai should fire when he thinks the missiles will kill the target. Sometimes I find that the AI gunners in helicopters are a little 'weird', when I pilot, but maybe i haven’t learnt how to command them enough.
frederf 0 Posted July 6, 2010 Personally I switch to manual fire for hydras. I think BIS wants you to do this because the mere act of switching to manual fire kicks your weapon selection from 30mm/Hellfire to Hydra.
madiba127 10 Posted January 7, 2011 how to get gunner to work:yay: ===================== Tell gunner to switch to missile move heli so it POINTING at target You will get lock on Tell gunner to fire:bounce3:
concurssi 11 Posted January 7, 2011 Do hydras even get lock-ons?
kristinu 10 Posted January 7, 2011 hydras dont get lock-ons man, i have the same opinion as Frederf
concurssi 11 Posted January 7, 2011 (edited) And on that note, are hydras even missiles? Aren't they just rockets? madiba are you sure you're not talking about hellfires? E: So I was thinking, and so that this post isn't completely OT, wouldn't it make more sense for the pilot to control the hydras instead of the gunner? He'd have a better sense of when he's lined up perfectly instead having to inform his gunner, "whenever you're ready, mate". maturin 12 Posted February 5, 2011 If you're using ACE, Hydras should be under your control.

OMAC 254 Posted February 6, 2011 What are ACE and ZEUS?
Hanzu 10 Posted February 6, 2011 (edited) What are ACE and ZEUS? They are mods and something that should never ever be used for official campaigns or missions. If you have doubts using beta patches because of possible new problems, then you should have much more doubts on mods too, since you can find many posts here where people describe their weird problems and later they say "oh, it was because of I was using a mod". Also they ruin in-designed mission difficulty balance either making things way too easy or in some cases too hard. Edited February 6, 2011 by Hanzu
OMAC 254 Posted February 6, 2011 Thank you, Hanzu. Never used a mod. Never will.
snoops_213 75 Posted February 7, 2011 (edited) try this. Select a target (either mouse or target menu), you will get a target box. Line the helo up and the lock on box should appear. Now your gunner should start to fire, if he don't press ctrl + fire and the fire command will be issued to your gunner then he'll start firing. If all else fails manual fire as has been said and take control yourself. @pandur there is a way to do it, ACE has it so pilots control rockets(and yes they are rockets not missiles), in fact i have a small addon that does this aswell somewhere on my hdd, might need a bit of an update as i think it was for the AH-1Z originally Edited February 7, 2011 by snoops_213
pandur 10 Posted February 7, 2011 @snoops 213 yeah an addon! that's what I thought of but I couldn't find anything... I guess a lot of people would be thankful for this ... Would it work for the apache too?
lugiahua 26 Posted February 8, 2011 Thank you, Hanzu. Never used a mod. Never will. why not? most people here use ACE in multiplayers. modding is the core of this series.
Laqueesha 474 Posted February 8, 2011 And on that note, are hydras even missiles? Aren't they just rockets. Unguided rockets, just travel in a straight line, doesn't lock on to anything. ;) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydra_70

tsb247 0 Posted February 22, 2011 (edited) Since Hydras are unguided, the AI gunner won't fire unless the helicopter is pointed exactly on target. It's kind of frustrating, but it seems to make sense that the gunner won't fire without a reasonable probability of a hit. Then again, I'm not using A.C.E., and I usually switch to manual fire for rockets anyway (as was mentioned above). Edited February 22, 2011 by tsb247 poor spelling. :p
