Hey everybody,

I was just wondering what difficulty (Recruit, Regular, Veteran, Expert) the community members are playing on and maybe why you chose it.

I ask because I just started playing on Expert and its kinda of hard to get used to not having a crosshair and no third person. But its been more of a challenge and some more fun.

Regular, to get extended map info and unlimited saves (they call me Mr. Jinx for a reason), but I don't like playing MP games with extended map info enabled, too easy. Fairly high skill, but low accuracy (depends on mission). All other aids turned off. If I find that I have to use a Javelin, I have no objections turning on crosshairs to get the job done and turn them back off afterwards. Or, during commanding, I may enable 3rd person in order to provide orders via the tactical view mode if map doesn't suit me, but I don't use it for "cheating". Grass and shadows always on, but I may use SAP clutter mod to lower the grass if mission is horribly placed (no tactical options to counter it). ACE always for multiplayer, and almost never for singleplayer. Or, I may go to recruit if I'm doing mission or addon testing and not really playing.

Those are my highly variable settings :)

I play somewhere between Regular and Veteran... and Expert when I think about it. I've simply modified the Regular mode to fit mine and my friends' needs and wants (i.e. visible waypoint markers, visible diamonds on team mates, visible crosshairs, 3rd person view enabled, kept the clock indicator, and disabled most of the other stuff).

Same as others; I want endless saves, but don't need most of the other stuff, so I play on a modified Regular. I've also noticed most custom mission designers have a tendency towards the waypointerrific, meaning you can't complete their missions unless you have visible waypoints. Same thing with the Armory missions - without visible waypoints most of the missions become this kind of random guessing game of where you're supposed to be going, since the map doesn't give you your (random) starting location half the time.

I would check both "expert" and the last option if I could, as the fact I run ACE and Zeus AI doesn't change the fact that I play on expert (or on modified regular/veteran so that it is the same as expect aside from the HUD group markers in order to ID group members, and even that is not really needed with STHUD).

It's not hard to get used to no crosshair and no 3rd person if you never played with them in the firstplace ;) In fact I find it hard to remember to use them if for some reason the server is running regular...

I just want the crosshairs for grenades and for some mounted weapons that one otherwise have absolutely zero sense of where they are aimed. Couldn't care less about rifles and stuff.

For mounted weapons, center of the screen is where it's at (at least if you set aiming deadzone to 0 as you probably should if you ever want to shoot anything without crosshairs and without looking down sights). For grenades it's all about practice, the indicator doesn't really help anyway.

Well, the crosshair for hand grenades help in sideways aiming if wanting to throw past corners and such. And I don't like zero deadzone on my guys. And even with zero deadzone for example the technical with a PK on it is impossible to to aim with. Most mounted weapons are easy to use. But that particular one without crosshairs is just a waste of time.

I play on Veteran + ACE2 (if required by the mission) + I'm gonna use Zeus AI again since it has been updated recently. I stopped using GL4 because it breaks mission scripts (I might give it another try though)
