Popa 0 Posted May 7, 2010 I have two questions: 1. Is it possible to rent a hugely powerfull server (for 1 or 2 days only) that could host such a game? 2. Can the RV engine handle 100 human players and 200-300 AI enemy?
sidhellfire 0 Posted May 7, 2010 I don't know the answer for first question but as for second. Can the RV engine handle 100 human players This is only limited by bandwidth, and yes, that number of players is achieve-able. Although it may be difficult if a lot of action will be present. and 200-300 AI enemy? This is server's CPU related problem. If it's powerful rig I cannot see a problem. PS If you happen to organize such game, then me, and probably my friends would want to know.

MirindoR 10 Posted May 11, 2010 to play with that many people you would need quite a mission and thepeople should be willing to cooperate staying in squads and using teamspeak, i can't really imagine such a huge game outside a clan. in any case a teamwork gamemode like aas in 50v50 with all the best mods out there (ace, weapon packs, fixes, etc) would be awesome. maybe it'll happen soon. Inkompetent 0 Posted May 18, 2010 A COOP mission with 100 players is, to my knowledge, unlikely to work well unless only a small portion (50-100) AI is present at a time, and even then it'd be a challenge to keep the game syncronized and non-stuttering across the board. For PvP it does work, but there's a great risk of desync problems and lagging/non-responsive AI with the incredible stress on the server to constantly update 100 people with the position and action data of 200-300 units. Infam0us 10 Posted May 18, 2010 I've played in a tournament with 120 people for 3 hours, had a few lag spikes here and there but was otherwise a great game! Very tactical and fun :)

Infam0us 10 Posted May 19, 2010 But that was pure PvP with no AI? Yes PvP. The point being is that it can be done serverwise ...

Popa 0 Posted May 19, 2010 Yes yes yes but that is PvP. I gather AI is the problem. Is the problem that the engine or the server couldn't handle the load?
