Boy kills father after taking keyboard away

Recommended Posts

@dmakatra, maybe you were a good child, and that slapping I received after I was caught a second time, first time I received only a verbal warning.

My point. A proper upbringing is not an upbringing where you slap the child if it tries smoking, it's an upbringing where the child itself learns what is right and wrong. Don't get me wrong, you definitely need to draw lines, I'm not a total parenting liberal - but morals is not taught to individuals through antagonism but through socialisation.

Hey An225,

Interesting rl story. All I can say is hang in there, no ones perfect, including your mum and partner.

Nothing wrong with your quoted past-times and interests, your doing at least 3 more things than I ever was at your age. Remind your mum of "those little extras" one day, in a calm 2-way communications type way. Could be much worst, your never home and your up to all sorts of bad non-PC stuff with other 16year olds ;)

The whole "porn" things is a bit of a joke. Normal porns been around for a century or more, boys and young mens interests in it will not change anytime soon, and a PC is only one way of many to see it.

Unfortunately if your trying too hard you can find the shit that can put you in goal.

Despite this, I tried remaining as calm as possible...then, after three months with no internet, and no PC access, I inquired whether or not I could be allowed to have access to the internet, and my PC, once more.

The answer? "No, you might use it to look at porn." And that's when I finally snapped.

Heh. That's the exact same answer I got a while back. The only difference is I can't "snap" because I have nowhere else to go, and if i do i'm convinced she is crazy enough to smash my PC.

I'm very interested in the military, and military history, yet due to some back issues I can't join any branch of the armed forces. So i decided to get into airsoft. The day after getting my first "kit" my mom decided I couldn't have the airsoft rifle in my room. I found out later she dropped it and screwed something up internally. So when i went to fire it it made a kind of wirring noise and nothing else. So I have what is effectively a $300 paperweight right now.

*Oh, to top it off I was grounded for the week for "not washing dishes properly" Apparently because i didn't wash them the way she liked (I wash individually, but fast. She likes to pile them in a sink-full of water and wash them in the same dirty water) i am not worthy of having access to the internet.

*ah the glory of loopholes* (I need internet for my college work, currently the government is paying for my courses because my dad is a Vet, but if i fail the courses she has to pay for them herself.) :)

To solely blame the parents for this is foolish.

Darkhorse: My parents hated airsoft too when I first got into it years ago.

There's too many details missing. Maybe it was a Wireless keyboard? Possibly it had multimedia keys? And no one is looking at the mouse!? I think there are accessories in this matter.

Something like this isn't the cause of video games. The news pulls this bullshit all the time where they come out with a title like, "Kid kills 5 after playing GTA". But you could say the same thing with something like "Doctor cures cancer after eating cheeseburger". Does this mean I should eat a cheeseburger before my SATs? I don't think so. The child was mentally unstable and something like this could have happened. The video games probably weren't helping, but really it's just a redundant trigger. I've played my share of violent video games and I certainly won't kill anyone any time soon.

Humans are not cats.

Autistic Psychopathy was a term coined by Hans Asperger, and does not appear as a classification in the DSM-IV, nor I think in the WHO's manual. What Asperger meant when he said 'Autistic Psychopathy' was someone who was introverted and had social and empathetic deficits, not someone with what we now call technically an 'antisocial personality'.

Hi Max Power

On the matter of Operant Conditioning

Humans are animals just the same as dogs and cats. They have hundreds of millions of years of evolution behind them confirming this, check the fossil record and Darwin for said confirmation. We are there on the tree.

We know that humans can be operant conditioned just the same as Pavlov's dogs; because there are many scientific experiments and papers confirming it; all of which have been peer reviewed.

Also the military spend an awful lot of money using it in military training. ;)

If Operant conditioning played a part then I would like to know what part?

This is after all the inferred argument of the news article, that by playing the game the child was conditioned to respond in a violent manner to his father taking his game away.

Indicators would be the weapon chosen and used was one used in the game.

As Grossman points out in his papers and book on the school killers they used the weapon they had been trained to use in the game and in the way the game had taught them:

"In Paducah, Kentucky, Michael Carneal, a fourteen-year-old boy who stole a gun from a neighbor's house, brought it to school and fired eight shots at a student prayer group as they were breaking up. Prior to stealing this weapon, he had never shot an actual handgun before. Of the eight shots he fired, he had eight hits on eight different kids. Five were head shots, the other three upper torso. The result was three dead, one paralyzed for life. The FBI says that the average, experienced, qualified law enforcement officer, in the average shoot-out, at an average range of seven yards, hits with less than one bullet in five. How does a child acquire such killing ability. What would lead him to go out and commit such a horrific act?"

http://www.killology.com/book_stop_summary.htm

That said IMHO I entertain the possibility that generalised game conditioning and exposure in entertainment forms TV, Film and games acts as desensitization to violence and could play a part in lowering the general resistance to killing one's own kind or kin.

I just personally think there would need to be additional factors including a pre existing condition in this case.

On the matter of 'Autistic Psychopathy'

I was referring to a specific form of 'Autistic Psychopathy' that is indicated in "Serial Killers"

In logical terms:

A subset of both 'Autistic Psychopathy' and "Serial Killers" are coincident but

NOT all serial killers are autistic psychopaths AND NOT all autistic psychopaths are serial killers.

It is a possible explanation that the child in consideration was an 'Autistic Psychopath' and Operant conditioning from the game could have been a factor in tipping over in to patricide while his 'Autistic Psychopathy' prevented his feeling remorse or guilt for his actions and caused him to go back to game.

It could also be the case that as 'Autistic Psychopathy' reduces empathic abilities that such abilities were impaired are indeed missing. Then removing his source of fun would have been a very dangerous thing to do, as it would trigger a violent episode.

On other possible causes

That lack of sleep and or chemical imbalance externally caused or induced through continuous immobility or indeed parental abuse may have played a part or indeed be the cause; I do not dispute.

Kind Regards walker

If it was an old IBM, it also could have doubled as the murder weapon -
