Rayers12 19 Posted February 25, 2010 This truly makes 2010 the end of an era for both the civilian and military versions of the Hummer. The U.S. Army announced earlier this month that it would no longer order Humvees, and would instead turn to the armored MRAPs that have proven more resistant to roadside bombs in Iraq and Afghanistan. But the Army still plans to keep its existing Humvees in service, according to DOD Buzz -http://www.popsci.com/cars/article/2010-02/end-era-gm-will-close-hummer-brand I hope that BI has started on making that MRAP model... An Fiach 10 Posted February 25, 2010 Why? Because some incompetent in D.C. thinks a top heavy truck that has a tendency to burn as often as any other vehicle is a good idea? As you said, the HMMWV will still be in service.
AnimalMother92 10 Posted February 25, 2010 Interesting. I've always wondered why BIS put such wimpy Humvees in the vanilla game, surely up-armored ones like NZX's would make more sense. The standard ones are pretty much made of tin-foil. :p

suhsjake 1 Posted February 25, 2010 And we still have a ton of unarmored HMMWV.
AnimalMother92 10 Posted February 25, 2010 Yeah I know, but in combat situations? You would know better suhsjake..it just seems dodgy to me.
dm 9 Posted February 25, 2010 And we still have a ton of unarmored HMMWV. I dont think that really covers just how many HMMWV the US has. "Gigatons of them" would probably be more accurate...
icebreakr 3159 Posted February 25, 2010 Crap, my country's MD just bought 12 new M1025s for operations in Afghanistan... I somehow don't see the point of using 1025s in combat situations...
Dead3yez 0 Posted February 25, 2010 I somehow don't see the point of using 1025s in combat situations... They were designed to carry Americans and all their fat friends to the drive-thru at McDonalds and bringing you as close to the counter/booth as possible. I'm JK. :D

Rayers12 19 Posted February 25, 2010 It is most likely the MRAP. http://defense-update.com/images_new/MRAP_Cat_1_navistar.jpg Its a beastly looking thing, definitely able to hold up to anything the light OPFOR forces can throw at it.
Schancky 10 Posted February 25, 2010 "Gigatons of them" would probably be more accurate... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Equipment_of_the_United_States_Army#Vehicles Around a 150,000 of them according to Wiki But then again, we all know how reliable Wiki is
NoRailgunner 0 Posted February 25, 2010 Maybe the JLTV is going to replace the HMMWVs... http://www.defenseindustrydaily.com/JLTV-Hummer-v20-or-MRAP-Lite-05147/ btw Rayers12 why are you still here - didn't you say that BIS scat on you? But perhaps you are starting another drama - anytime soon?
W0lle 1052 Posted February 25, 2010 Moved to Offtopic as I fail to see what this has to do with A2 suggestions. And: US Army != US Marines which is what A2 is about after all.

Baff1 0 Posted February 25, 2010 They've stopped making them now according to the news today. Not event he civvie ones. China has also pulled out of buying the plant.
Daniel 0 Posted February 25, 2010 At least you won't see shiny black stretched-MRAPs cruising around any time soon.
Rayers12 19 Posted February 25, 2010 Its a suggestion for OA not A2.
Jok 0 Posted February 25, 2010 you guys should guess less and read more...the humvee surely wont be replaced by a truck. this would result in worse off road capabilety(sp?) then the uparmored humvees have now. if they have it their way sometihng caled JLTV is in the pipe. http://www.dailytech.com/US+Military+Look+to+Replace+Humvee+with+New+JLTV/article17583.htm

echo1 0 Posted February 25, 2010 (edited) Damn, I was routing for the Moon Buggy - Primary advantages - insurgents will be too confused by it's appearance to know that they need to shoot at it. China has also pulled out of buying the plant. If they had done that, it would have been the most masterful piece of military sabotage the Americans ever managed to pull off :p Edited February 25, 2010 by echo1
joey_45 0 Posted February 25, 2010 They'll still have the hums in non war zones like Europe, UK and the States..
Whiskey_Tango 10 Posted February 25, 2010 China will take a heavy loss on hummers now, nobody likes h2's or h3's.....lmao
