dmarkwick 261 Posted January 30, 2010 Is there any cure yet for the dreaded alpha-shine? I don't know the proper term for this effect so it's a little difficult for me to search for it ;) nVidia 280GTX
Zipper5 74 Posted January 30, 2010 That's actually a feature BIS doesn't seem to have fully implemented into ArmA II yet. With high levels of fog, the buildings are made to look like they're frozen, same with roads and fences. Seems BIS intended it for winter-time missions. dmarkwick 261 Posted January 30, 2010 No this is definately a bug, any decal type texture laid over another texture that needs a mask shows this effect. Roads, wire fences, vehicle number decals, dirt textures etc.
AnimalMother92 10 Posted January 31, 2010 Oh yeah I hate this. Hopefully BIS will fix it as it ruins the immersion in some missions.
no use for a name 0 Posted January 31, 2010 yeah that's the main killer for "fog"-type missions for me is the shiny roads, buildings, etc. I hope they can fix it
icebreakr 3159 Posted January 31, 2010 Same thing happens when you watch a unit that is in-front of the smoke. Alpha bug.

bensdale 0 Posted January 31, 2010 Is there a dev ticket for this bug?
dmarkwick 261 Posted September 4, 2010 Does anyone have a ticket number for this?
icebreakr 3159 Posted September 4, 2010 Nope, please put it to Dev-heaven. But I have a nice shot from MP event proving the alpha bug on smoke: Really annoying stuff. Using Nvidia BFG 8800GT OC2... in two days I get good ol' 4890 (managed to snatch one!) and will recheck.
Beagle 684 Posted September 4, 2010 This is a problem with anti aliasing if I recall it right. It does not happen with AA off and a higher fillrate instead. Performance wise this will be ptretty equal except the higher fillrate does not produce the alpha bug 120% fillrate is enough at 1650x1080 for a AA like apearance at least on my TFT

If no ticket exists then I will start one :)

akd42 10 Posted September 5, 2010 I see this all the time with my 8800 GTS, even with "distance fog". The worse actors are the chainlink fences, craters and roads.
