nuggetz 0 Posted December 21, 2009 Just got TrackIR for Christmas - yeah I opened it early :-) Works out of the box as expected with A2. I'd like to be able to use the TrackIR "roll" movement to control lean left and right in game. Right now, I have to move my whole body to the left and right. I just want to be able to tilt my head to the left or right. I tried manually mapping this in the control section but none of the options seemed to work. Does anyone know which axis I need to select in the Arma2 options screen?
Pteradon 0 Posted December 21, 2009 Thats a nice christmas present:) If you have a TrackIR 4 or 5, you can use the trackir 5.0 Final B. http://www.naturalpoint.com/trackir/06-support/support-download-software-and-manuals.html In TrackIR 5.0 Final B, "roll" ist just "roll":) I've disabled the "roll" function of TrackIR, because if you lean a bit over ingame, you are not able to run.So i use the normal keys for leaning. TheCrusader 10 Posted December 21, 2009 Hi, I had the same problem, but solved it with a custom profile in the TrackIR software, that has a certain deadzone flanked with steep sensitivity rises, to keep the overall needed motion small. Try that, works really well for me!
jasonnoguchi 11 Posted December 21, 2009 (edited) I disabled zoom and roll as those axis tend to get in the way of game play. The zoom feature tends to zoom the view in and out when you make unintentional head movements which makes the whole picture hard to see and the roll feature tends to lean you by mistake while running, reducing you to a walk. This almost always happen to me when checking left and right for my squad mates while running under fire and that's VERY bad. The deadzone on the roll didn't work for me because it didn't take a lot to end up outside of the detection angles and i do move my body randomly quite a bit while playing. You must spend some time, maybe one whole afternoon, setting up your trackir profile exactly the way you feel natural. Remember, you need to fit it to your EXACT taste and need and it can be done. When that's done, you won't even feel the existence of the trackir system as your ingame view changes exactly the way you expect it to and your immersion will be 100%. One more tip... map the PAUSE key of trackir to your "V" button and check off "lock". This is so that when you hit V to bring up your sights, trackir will be put on pause at the same time allowing you to move your view with your mouse while you aim just like in real life. nuggetz 0 Posted December 21, 2009 I disabled zoom and roll as those axis tend to get in the way of game play. Thats interesting becuase no matter how much I roll my head, nothing happens on screen. Like I said, I have to move my whole head left and right and then it leans. But I cant get anything mapped to the roll function in trackIR. What is the roll axis called in game? I can see everyones point about roll getting in the way if you stop walking but I haven't experienced this becuase "roll" has no effect.
22ndAndy 10 Posted December 21, 2009 You can't. ArmA2 only supports Yaw, Pitch, X and Z axis.
dmarkwick 261 Posted December 21, 2009 ArmA view code only supports yaw pitch X & Z, but the controller itself can be mapped to perform other functions. It's a matter of selecting the control you wish to map in the control options screen, then leaning your head appropriately to tell the game which axis to map it to. Rather like selecting the control and pressing a key to map it to that. Sometimes you'll accidentally move your head wrong and map it to the incorrect movement, but you just delete it and do it again.
jasonnoguchi 11 Posted December 22, 2009 opppssss.... sorry, that's right, its not the "roll" function as its not supported by the game, its the X & Z that I disabled. Sorry. One more thing. X & Z axis actually conflict each other in the game. When you have both active, only the zoom will work. The leaning only works minimally. If you want to see the full leaning effect, make sure you disable zoom and then make sure you don't lean out of the detection angle of your trackir. Once you lean out of the detection angle, your character bounces back to center.
SWAT_BigBear 0 Posted December 22, 2009 I just hit my center key if i get out of the zone, but on a 30" monitor it takes a lot to get out of it. Leaning for me doesn't take much of a tilt of the head, using a copied default profile, only keybinds are altered.

I can't remember what ones off hand though, I will try and post them up after work. You then need to create a custom profile so the lean has a decent deadband and improved lean control as it hardly moves with the default settings. I have it now so it pretty much matches my lean position exactly.
Dr.Pulp 0 Posted December 22, 2009 You can try my profile (TrackIR 5): http://home.htp-tel.de/agerber/arma2.rar i got zoom and roll enabled with a nice deadzone so it won't kick in accidently.
jasonnoguchi 11 Posted December 22, 2009 Interesting... will check it out, thanks Pulp! :)
liquidpinky 11 Posted December 22, 2009 Lean left = TrackIR +rZ Lean right = TrackIR -rZ You will get these from the drop down list when you click on the lean functions in the control options when the Track IR is enabled. Then edit the profile in TrackIR software to suit yourself.

jasonnoguchi 11 Posted December 23, 2009 In a word, once you get used to the freedom of view, you can't play without it! hahahaha! Sometimes when I play without trackir on (due to light behind me which I cannot turn off :( ) I still find myself turning my head to the frustration of the view not responding to it.
