panzer948 10 Posted November 7, 2009 Hi, I was a big fan of Operation Flashpoint and have been eagerly awaiting Dragon Rising. But after reading all the negative reviews and forum topics, I decided I am better off picking up Arma 2. This sounds like the game I should have been waiting for. Its funny how negative views of one game can actually help the sales out of a slightly older game. I surely wont be the last one getting Arma 2 for that reason. Hopefully I can get a box copy in a local store tomorrow. Looks like version 1.04 is the latest patch. Does this patch include all previous updates so I can avoid downloading the others? Also, are there any addons/mods you guys recommend I start to use from the beginning? Or should I wait and finish the original game's campaigns before adding those from the modding community (didn't know if they could screw something up). Thanks,
Grunks 10 Posted November 7, 2009 1.04 is the latest offical patch and you should only need to download that one to get your game up to date. There are more up to date beta patches and you can play online with these and everything should work properly with the beta patches but if something doesn't work you should remember it is only a beta patch. As for add ons, I personally can recommend any islands (Everson, Namlask and Japhato) being personal and squad favorites. However, any add ons you install such as british weapons (for example), will not effect the offical campaign in any way at all unless you edit the campign missions by un-pbo'ing them. I think the best way to find addons you like is to download and test them yourself, even if you totally trust what someone else has to say about them, you may find you like them even if you don't. :)
arthur666 10 Posted November 7, 2009 Congrats on your choice. 1.04 is a must, but you might want to get the latest beta patch while we're waiting on 1.05. http://www.arma2.com/beta-patch.php I try to keep my mods to a minimum, for compatibility's sake. But I do love this F-16 simply because of the quality of the addon. It's as good as any of the BIS models. http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=5900 The absence of the CH-53 really confused me. The AI just can't handle the Osprey, and the UH-1 can't carry enough soldiers for large assaults. So... http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=6879 And then, why didn't they give us the USS Khe Sahn in the editor? http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=5858

Thanks, I was on the same boat but I figured since I had no good games and I had alot of money, I went out in early September and picked up Arma 2. Reading all the reviews and looking a youtube videos of how much stuff you could accomplish with this game was the driver for me to purchase it, and afterwards this stellar god damn community, its truely the greatest. :D Just remember this, the game takes forever to learn and master, HUGE learning curve if you haven't played Armed Assault but once you invest your time into it, you'll become an addicted Armaholic like many others here. Cheers. :)

CarlGustaffa 4 Posted November 8, 2009 Which is essential if you plan to do any editor work. More so if you venture into dialog design where even the slightest bug will crash the game :D
