Hello... my name is EDcase and I'm an ARMA2 addict.

...AND I DON'T WANT TO BE CURED :D

Seriously, its really amazing and quite often I still look around and say "wow" (Not good in a firefight)

My vote for "must have" addon is JTD Fire&Smoke

I have to admit and i,m seeking help! I am a serious Arma 2 addict! Somebody help and stop me! Seriously I thought OFP 1 was cool but arma 2 sucked hopelessly! But BI made it all right with me with releaseing this one allright! Only problem is i cant stop playing and i just cant help myself. I mean there were a lot of good games i played like brother in arms hells highway , Call of duty 4 , Hitman blood money , etc etc but the problem is is exactly what they are! Games!! And they all expire when you played throught the storyline (With exeption of steel beasts pro) Where arma2 just offers endless gameplay thanks to the editor and some great user made missions!

Hi all. I just thought I’d say gday and pass on a few of my comments about this amazing game. You've probably heard them all before but I just need to vent some of my enthusiasm :) (mods, please move this to where you think is appropriate)

I‘m a fan of PC FPS and open world/sandbox FPS games (esp Crysis, Far Cry 2) in particular, and like many people was intrigued by the concept of OFP DR and its promise of a massive open world, graphical fidelity and gameplay realism. Several weeks ago I ordered it on Steam and while waiting for it to download I started reading various threads on various forums which showed it deviating radically from the initial promises, and which tended to compare it unfavourably to a game I’d never heard about before - Arma 2. Out of curiosity I clicked a few links and ended up here on this forum, and after reading a bit and looking at a few pix and videos was so impressed that I went straight out and bought it. Having no real preconceptions I just started playing both games, and in the 3 weeks since I’ve probably racked up a sum total of about 2 hours on OFP DR (unlikely to increase much further) and at least 100 hours on Arma 2. Basically, I’m completely hooked.

Welcome to the Real World Neo.

Not really being interested in MP, I’ve played most of the way through the SP campaign, and spent a lot of time playing around in the editor and trying out various mods and performance tweaks. The (long) single sentence summary of Arma 2 for me so far: an incredibly ambitious, immersive, intelligent and flexible game, far more realistic than anything I’ve ever played before, graphically and sonically stunning, and with amazing developer and community support to fully realise its potential and ensure its longevity. But also, as noted by just about everyone here: I find Arma 2 somewhat buggy and unoptimised, and compromised by framerate and texture issues and substandard voice acting which detracts from the immersion. Some of the issues are addressable/being addressed by BIS, some by the community, none of them will stop me from enjoying the freedom of having my own world to play in. Although it’s a milsim, I get just as much of a buzz using the editor and just going bushwalking, driving or flying in an empty Chernarus, admiring the beautiful scenery and the obvious artistry and skill that went into crafting and coding it. I’ve only ever used the 1.04 version and haven’t encountered a lot of the earlier frustrations regarding AI, logic, mouse, stability etc.

I think there’s a lot to look forward to in this game: further patches from BIS to improve performance and gameplay; checking out more mods and user missions; developing skills in the game and the editor; maybe taking the plunge online; and hopefully having something useful to contribute to this forum. My wife will NOT thank BIS.

PS My system P5K/E6750/8800GT/2Gb/WinXP32. Getting 30-35fps at 1440x900, 2000m view distance, most settings very high except for no AA.

Basically the same thoughts I had when saw Arma 2 reviews and watched videos on youtube of Jan playing and getting his arse kicked by AI. :D

I can't believe a few years ago(didn't know what Arma was) I thought Armed Assault Gold Edition was just another generic bargain bin shooter game in Bestbuy I regret that!!!!!! :o

Can't wait for the 3D Realtime EDITOR to break out and be released!

I am pretty much in the OP's and Flash Thunder's camp, never really paid ArmA or OFP any attention.

Can't believe what i have been missing all this time.

I am just over 3 weeks in now too.

Ηey you are me!

I do the same. Trying to fly under the train bridge in Namalsk with a C130 upside down, riding bikes down mountains, hunting civilians or animals, burning forests... It's like lucid dreaming really...

Buggy lucid dreaming.

HA! I do the same things lol. I mainly like to fly the huey. Spawn one at the airbase with some soldiers on the side. Load them up and fly off to a city land and have them exit. Mainly just practicing before I go online in co-op, perfecting my transportation duties! :D

This thread rocks. Not only does it perfectly encapsulate a lot of people's feelings when they first discovered the Arma/OFP series, but it also shows that Codemasters' attempts to exact 'revenge' against BIS have simply created a lot of positive publicity for Arma2 (via comparisons with OPFDR) and so brought in a fresh wave of new players. Result!

@tpw: have you considered playing some online co-op missions? If you are enjoying the single player aspect of Arma2 then you will surely get a kick out of working in a team with other human players. Just make sure you get Ventrilo/TS, as voice comms are essential.

Thanks for the online tips Mandrake5 and others. I'm pretty sure that eventually I'll do a bit of online co-op stuff, but not until I can play well enough to not look like a twat. And given that I spend a lot of time just messing around in the editor rather than actually fighting, that could take a while :)

I've been an "Armaholic" since Operation Flashpoint. I was there back in the day man... blocky faces and all. Our hands were like... crafted out of digital wood man... crazy shit. I still get flashbacks from that stormy night in Nogova. Damn tanks rolling down the hill, we be crawling on all fours, faces in the mud praying for a quick dead and then BOOM motherfucker! Graphics glitched like you can't imagine. Damn euclidean geometry gangraped right there I'm tellin ya! You couldn't tell what was real anymore.

I remember escaping from that northern camp, using the stars to find my way, no compass... no map. Just one save slot and a lot of willpower, you know?

I still do soma Arma 2 today. I try to keep it under control though. I use some Age of Empires (Asian Dynasties) to take the edge off when the day is hard but I am always back for some sweet modded Arma 2 binge sooner or later.

I am thinking of getting into CODMW2 for a while...
