The first human cyborg

Recommended Posts

If you had asked a car manufacturer living 100 years ago about fully automatic machines that replace his workers, because they are  working more reliable, precise and efficent than humans he for sure would have called you an idiot that need to get his act together, it was unthinkable at that time.

Today we say, of course it´s science fiction about "Terminators" fighting tomorrows wars, or the curing of  diseases/defects that are uncurable nowadays, but we are on the first step to achive it as it looks. The possibilities are virtually huge, but scary at the same time.

"A British university professor has been fitted with cyborg technology enabling his nervous system to be linked to a computer. The ground-breaking surgery on Professor Kevin Warwick effectively makes him the world's first cyborg -- part human, part machine.

Although a long way from fictional characters The Terminator or the Six Million Dollar Man, it is hoped that readings will be taken from the implant in his arm of electrical impulses coursing through his nerves.

These signals, encoding movements like wiggling fingers and feelings like shock and pain, will be transmitted to a computer and recorded for the first time.

Surgeons implanted a silicon square about 3mm wide into an incision in Warwick's left wrist and attached its 100 electrodes, each as thin as a hair, into the median nerve.

Connecting wires were fed under the skin of the forearm and out from a skin puncture and the wounds were sewn up.

The wires will be linked to a transmitter/receiver device to relay nerve messages to a computer by radio signal.

It is possible that the procedure could lead to a medical breakthrough for people paralysed by spinal cord damage, such as Superman actor Christopher Reeve.

I fear for survival of pure humans!

Dear Pure Humans,

We must bring back dignity that our Lord has bestowed upon us. These cyborgs are trying to make mockery of our existence and purity in which we were made of. In course of human history it was us, the humans, that have created and cultivated this world. Every great civilization, monuments, knowledge, sewage, donuts, french fries, and porns has been product of our creativity, invention and our desire for better life.

But when these cyborgs are entering reality, it will only lead to assimilation of human into mechanical means and destroy our minds.

so, i urge you to grab your weapons and destroy whoever proceeds with this evil plan that shall not be brought upon as future tyrants of humanity.

Ralph Wiggum

President of ICPH(International Coalition for Pure Humans)

That's pretty creepy. I don't want cyborgs to fight our wars. Then I won't get to shoot or blow anything up. sad.gif

Perhaps cyborgs would do a better job of humanity than we humans do smile.gif

Now I love my computer, and all the other bits of technology that make my life and everyone elses easier, and wouldn't want to be without them for too long, but despite this general love of technology cybernetic implants/enhancements whatever you want to call them, scare the crap out of me, though whether its a natural human response or Hollywoods fault, I can't tell.

I think its cool smile.gif

id love to be a cyborg and i really think it could change the human world for the better.

If everyone had lots of sensors and receptors and a broadcasting/recieving device in their body , then it would open a whole new world of possibilities, you could maybe feel other peoples pleasure/ pain (no more fights/wars?) or even moods etc-

id love it, i only wish i had been born in fifty years or so when all this stuff might actually be getting developed/used

and then some slow minded laggy bastard with IQ of 85 comes and lags around, destroying the fun for everyone...this leads of frustration for other players creating instability at the server (servers has to be geniouses...and they arent always stable)...this leads it to crash.

mmm...i prefer to be 100% human, i wouldnt like to have anything to enhance my body...we are already physically near perfect creatures.

cyborg tech will however lead to a lot improved life for many people..criples can walk etc etc

But what about viruses......

if people get computers implanted into them, then sooner or later there will be cyborg viruses, like that send signals that make peoples arms spin around 5000 times or something, or that give you a permanent erection biggrin.gif LOL

Im guessing that ur an idiot who thinks a hpb lags a server cos of a high ping and made a witty connection, well i guess if the same held true for ur theories then i fear all of these "virtual cyborg servers" would be in great danger with ur inferior intelligence.

I think it is neat that cybernetics is advancing as it is. Especially since our bodies are nowhere near perfect, even in the context of biological life (our organs suck in comparison to other animals).

What I would like to use neural interface for is driving a car. Can you imagine what it feels to drive a vehicle with the power of thought alone? The car effectively becomes your body, air surging past your composite carapace, your tires throbbing with the minor bumps on the tarmac...

Or better yet, imagine flying a fighter plane in direct neural interface. Pure joy.
