Snow.... Winter... Snowfall?

All we need now is the good old falling leaf script. That would add a lot of immersion to missions, because Harvest Red is based in the Fall / Autumn. That would be epic. I'll try to port some stuff over, with NIM's permission of course.

I'm not too sure. Of course you can sign it, it wouldn't hurt. And I'm pretty sure it wouldn't hurt not to sign it. So either way, it's a win win or loose loose situation. I need to get in contact with the original creator to see if it's okay for me to port it over into ArmA2 and release it.

hey everone just finished up a complete(completly working in-game..which is a first for me..lol) of all bis us vehicles..inculuding...all hmmwv's..stykers..m113

s...m1a1..and the support vehicles..and motorbike too! i will release this part of my "winter mod" soon! all air vehicles(includiong my c-130h in snow camo) will be done too, only thing is im thinking all air vehicles should have a all white and grey camo with all white underbellys..instead of white all over? what do u guys think?

it will be for both arma1 and arma2!

If you could, I think you should make an all white camo AND a white a gray camo for all air vehicles, but it's up to you. I'd prefer white and gray camo to plain white. Definitely have plain white underbellies, that's cool!

Would love to see this. OFP winter CTI was excellent, quite atmospheric. Id say winter Cheneruas would look very nice, much more suitable than Sarhani.

One of the most immersive and atmospheric things about the old OFP Winter Kolgujev was the "SCRUNCH" sound your feet made as you walked around on the snow...

It was just a perfect soundsample of that ultra-distinctive sound that instantly made the snow seem real...

ANYONE who played Winter Kolgujev knows what I'm talking about!

... anyone who's walked on snow knows what I'm talking about!

I had a look inside Kegetys Winter K to see how it was done...

It IS just a single sound sample...

Since the island also came with a basic set of snowcamo units it's applied to each of them individually as an environment sound in the combined island/units config...

It's all a bit confusing and well beyond my limited abilities, but I've uploaded the sound sample HERE just in case any of you scripting gurus can figure out maybe a little CFGpatches standalone config for it that would apply it to the appropriate surfaces??? (everything but roads and tarmac I guess) - or maybe add it in as an additional option in a snow script? (Binkowski???) :)

Realistic simulation of snow is kinda hard, but doable with traction variables based on different ground tiles/textures. Someone would have to remake trees to winter-ish, I've had enough making them green for upcoming Panthera v2.1 ;)

What I missed the most :

- the distinctive crunch sound of the footsteps in the snow

- the winter trees, some white powder on "picea"s and less leaves on "betulla"s

check back one page in this thread for the "original" SCRUNCH sound... :D if you can figure out a way to incorporate it...

There is an entry in the config.cpp

I had a look inside the FDF replacement soundpack for Arma 1 - to see how they replaced footstep sounds...

It's the same deal as in Keg/OFP basically... The sounds are defined in a "class SoundEnvironExt", then below that EVERY standard soldier type is listed and the custom sounds for each surface being replaced are patched into the definition of that unit...

So... technically, you could make a config defining the snowstep sound, then you'd need to patch it into the definition of every Arma2 soldier type and add the snowstep sound as a replacement for your chosen surface sounds...

I'm just SO outa my depth here ;)

I would be nice to have a "Winter Utes" as a beginning.

Maybe the arma2 demo utes island is "easy" to retexture?

nope all white....but no worrys i know who made that..so if i can make one in camo too(as there will be all white..for regular troops, and snow camo for sf troops..thats what i had in mind since the get go!) i will get ask him to use it....

also i need help making the usmc troops as i cant do camo...so if anyone can help please pm me! here is a real life pic of the new usmc camo in trying to make!

The only reason I made them was because I wanted some winter units for a couple of missions I'm making on snow islands. I think one will get at least a half decent winter combat feeling with these :) Also I'm surprised not to have found a single winter infantry mod for ArmA1/2 out there...what's up with that..?! (or am I just crap at searching the net?)

wow man alsome job, may i please....please use them! p.s. just hear me out for a sec. i know u didnt make them to be exact...but you nearly did...i saw the new usmc snow camo..(i think i posted a pic), and its not far off, from yours(great job btw). and even tho im happy to use yours..if you could(and you may want to find better ones...as my pic's was just to show the camo) and try to recreate that, with a tad bit more greyish\black(instead of the tad bit of greenish color in the camo)...i would love you so much for that...iv tryed so hard to make it, but to no luck..please help buddy..i need you

p.s. little sidenote...im releaseing the first part of my mod today..the ground veh. but with out the m1030 motorbike...been having problems with it, but will have it working in the updates to come...any how thought id let every one know...NTRUDER pm me if you need me bro..and thanks in advance!

edit: oh and im doing redfor textures soon, but NTRUDER feel free to make better ones..lol, but for redfor i was gonna do a russian type white suits with the distintive black splotches\splaters... and ]NTRUDER if you want to be in charge of my a2 side of the mod(as i only have arma1 right now) that would be great! and i would be happy to have you working with me...along with anyone else who may want to help!
