Finally playing the game you paid for?

Recommended Posts

Does anybody else feel like ArmA 2 is finally coming into its own now? I bought it on release & although I personally havent had many of the major problems reported on here, ive seen my fair share of bugs & was badly in need of some optimisation to start with! But anyway now im playing 1.03 with a decent view distance, frame rate & detail levels Im finally playing what I paid for & im loving it! This is helped along by some really awesome missions being released by the community, especially SP ones which I personally prefer! Theres still a way to go with regards to some AI behaviour & bugs but on the whole I think we're on the right track, so well done to BIS, a positive thread for a change!

I love the game personally. All the user made missions are fantastic to, they really add to the game.

No complaints over here bud! (:

I wish the campaign and receiving bug were fixed.

It has amazing potential, but I feel the multiplayer needs a major rethink.

i only just got it and i love the ground combat aspects, unfortunatly the flying tutorials arnt very informative on how to actually fly, they just give you the controls and hope you understand. My helli keeps nose diving cause i cant figure it out, but meh i'll get there eventually.

On the whole i've onlyu played maybe 3 hours worth of campaign (spent most of that time finding the right settings for balance between FPS & Graphics) but i thouroughly enjoyed the fact that its not a run and gun kind of game, you must actually think before you act. Though i do find it hard to keep my AI squad out of trouble.

I stopped playing the game after the first few days when it was released in the US. I really loved the cities in Arma1 and the cities in this game are really small compared to them (feels like it at least)

The terrain was another thing which turned me off. If you've seen 1 scene of terrain from this game you've seen them all.

There's forest. And farms. And some more forest..Hey, there's town #47 in the standard houses along roads formation! Than back to crops..And forest..Finally ocean. There isn't a lot to set it apart. Don't get me wrong, there are a lot of really pretty areas in this game but the terrain style doesn't vary one bit.

I've been playing a lot more since getting the CAA1 mod. Not only does it have cities, the islands it has are pretty different from each other.

The apparent use of placeholder sounds also turned me off, but I'm getting used to it and the A10's mounted m16.

EDIT: Bucky, I recommend getting a joystick even if it costs just $20. It makes the game a lot more fun for piloting anything.

I stopped playing the campaign after the preparing-for-invasion mission. The dream before it was actually fun. Than we got onto a boat where voice actors hadn't even gone through puberty. I quit it after laughing my ass off.

Wow really? I felt the exact opposite. There are all kinds of cool specialized places here for firefights. Berezino has like 9 cool places alone. Places like the lumberyard and the northern most train station. The downtown area in the south-west of it. There is also the factory near Solnichy that is really cool. The under construction factory near Polana is cool too. The big towns and coastal towns have tons of cool places. A lot of wide open fields for tank combat. Sahrani didn't have many of those. It had 1 in Northern Sahrani and all the ones in the South Sahrani were desert with the exception of the one near the airport.

Town size I think might be a bit smaller if you compare Chernogorsk to Paraiso maybe. But most of Paraiso was fairly useless since it had all those elevated concrete areas that the AI didn't like using a lot. It just seems like in the cities in ArmA II there is a lot more useable areas than in ArmA I. I would say on average Chernarus towns are bigger.

The main cities in arma2 are bigger I think, but they have a lot of open space and not very tall buildings - they feel more like towns than cities.

A2 has a lot more detail to the terrain, but just doesn't vary enough for me.

See I wasn't a big fan of the whole desert suddenly turning into a central european country as you cross the land bridge thing. ArmA II varies enough for me. Cities, villages, mountains, hills, plains, coastal areas etc. I'm not a big fan of desert combat either so that also helped. Although with my crappy computer I can barely handle the forests so maybe I should become a fan of desert combat.

I understand where you're coming from though.

I got more than I was expecting on day one!

Name one other program that comes close to ArmA2? There is none and that was a rhetorical question anyway.

ArmA2 just keeps getting better and better....

There is so much more complexity in ArmA2 towns.

I agree with you that the added complexity, plus the ability for the AI to use most of it compared to ArmA1, presents the player with a lot of gameplay opportunities.

I would just make a beeline for the center of town and cheapshot the AI from those raised concrete platforms.

Is that not the same as real life though? I mean you can drive the length & breadth of the uk & other than some areas being a bit more mountainous the terrain doesnt vary much, I've also driven across belgium & holland & there is very little variation in terrain there either, so I think its to the games credit that the terrain is stays believable rather than having deserts, jungle etc crammed into the small (ish) map!

Umm, the terrain in arma2 happens to be a copy of an area in Czech Republic in which i happen to live and I must say it looks absolutely realistic, in the part of the country from which the data was taken there isnt even a city as big as Chernogorsk. In fact there are not so big cities in the whole Czech Republic, our capital - Prague has 1 mil. inhabitants and its three times bigger than the second biggest city. So far as realism goes its ok. You will get a big city in arrowhead and also all your desert dreams will come through then

Finally playing the game you paid for?

Finally

I've been playing everyday from day one starting with the demo and never had any REAL problems that stopped me from playing ;)

I bought the game just to play the campaign in co-operative mode (and some fanmade co-op missions), and I feel like I've gotten screwed. Numerous mission bugs, connection issues, sync issues and other problems have made the experience quite difficult to enjoy. Bohemia, you should conduct your own beta tests and not force users to cope with buggy games.

On the other hand, I think the game will be perfectly fine if Bohemia just releases half a dozen or so patches for it.

I felt frustrated with the state the game was shipped in, especially with the early Peter-/Idea Games release in Germany. Game issues aside, pre-release i was hoping for a healthy balance of feature revolution and evolution in key areas, being identified as weak spots of previous titles. In this regard, it somehow managed to not meet expectations in both departments. So am i playing the game i´ve thought i`d paid for, i´ll have to say, no. But it´s getting better, and how it´ll turn out dependent on the developer to deliver a solid framework and features for the community to build on.
