Snap shooting..pop up from crouched then back again

Recommended Posts

Would be nice if you could pop up quickly from behind cover , fire of a few rounds then drop back down again .. quickly.

Simply going from crouched to standing and back to crouched again takes forever and leaves you exposed way too long.

Well, that's exactly the reason why I play this game instaed of many others where this IMO arcadish behaviour is catered on a large scale.

So according to me I would say: sorry bud, wrong game ;)

There is absolutely nothing arcadish about minimizing the time you are exposed to enemy fire. A pop from cover function would be welcome.

Not arcadish , just a standard combat procedure.

I agree, but with the line of sight in this game I guess it would ruine the gameplay. Besides you can already lean to the left or right.

actually you can kind of get the same effect in the game:

just look down when you're behind cover and it will pull your upper-body down with it. It's not quite the same, but has the same effect

Haha!

Not very practical tho.

It would be great if you could use freetack/trackIR to duck below things in the

same way you can use it to lean round things.

Yup, it's pretty uneasy to use, but quite usefull at least against AI.

Not used extensively in PvP yet, thing is the time for aiming correctly is quite long

But it makes for a kind of "duck in/duck out" impression, not too bad

I'll be damned...didn't know that.

I admit it's not the best because you get disoriented if you do it several times; but I've used it in multiplayer and it does work

The example "No Use For A Name" posted is something I've actually used several times to minimise exposure of my body while hiding behind something. Crounching then looking down, only to switch to free look and being able to peer around without AI or other players spotting your head popping up is fantastic. Interesting even more when combined with leaning. All this would be a bit easier with TrackIR or Freelook (if ever supported), but it works quite well otherwise.

The "jack in the box" trick is one of the things I hated the most in a lot of other games. Having to physically get up from crouch takes time, and the Arma 2 animations are not unrealistically slow and don't give unrealistically excessive when it comes to stance switching. This is actually one of the things done right in Arma 2, except it could use some non-workaround fluid stance, but then again no other game has fluid stance either.
