hi there..

try using cpbo in Cmd and see if it works there..

i havent used windows 7 but .

if it does work in cmd i guess you could make 2 little bat scripts

extract pbo

start cpbo -e %1

make pbo

start cpbo -p %1

copy cpbo.exe to c:\windows

copy ExtractPbo.bat & MakePbo.bat to your choise.

Open Explorer..

go to Tools -> Folder Option

Select "File Types" Tab.. Scroll down to Pbo ,

press advance on it.. Make new..

on Action type: Extract Pbo file

on Application used to blah: Path/to/thebatfile.bat

so the same for MakePbo

now when you right click on a pbo file you should see the 2 extra options you added for that filetype :)

i had to do this because cpbo would not assosiate with the pbo files on my xp64 bit system.. donno.. but this simple workaround worked for me..

hope it can worke for you aswell

Well I tried eliteness and I am still having a time getting it to work, I even dropped the dll file into the Windows System32 folder.. I tried PBOview and packed ( I am changing the sounds PBO) so I packed it and ran the game, it ran without crashing but I had no sound effects.

Here is a problem for you all, I would like to try and extract the files using Windows 7 without the virtualXP.

However for some reason the .pbo files think that they should open with media player (don't ask how no idea how that happened...).

I have tried to manually tell it to open using cPBO, when I select cPBO and click Ok it ignores it.

Would trying to put cPBO into the registry work as you don't actually install cPBO, so I am taking a wild guess that Windows needs to know that it is there.

I have tried double clicking cPBO but it says that it is already associated and will not re-do it.

I'm still having issues with this myself, seems Windows7 thinks Dreamweaver CS3 should open .pbo extensions. I've gone in the registry and tried even mapping the .pbo extension in the Class Root and still no luck!!! Not to mention made Dreamweaver understand that .pbo's primary is PboView. grrr.

Anyone had luck with making PboView.exe work in Windows 7 and amke the proper file extensions?

Its usually "PBO File" key if you are in the registry. But also try deleting ".pbo" key.

OR

Control Panel\Programs\Default Programs\Set Associations

If you run as administrator as mentioned, and choose yes to set extensions, cpbo will run fine in Win 7 without any special programs. I'm not sure if it has problems associating if you already set it to another program. It should also work fine with UAC enabled.

Thanks, deleted the ".pbo" association in the HK_Root, then using the mapping I did below before hand (outlined in code tags), it suddenly was showing up in my "open with list", and in the list of default programs (still wouldn't map it under the "choose default program" selection, nor was it showing up in the "Default Programs" wizard under Ctrl Panel. Probably to do with deleting the .pbo key). I didnt get it to associate finally till I went to properties of the the file and changed the "Opens With" association. Even though it had default application check box greyed out, I selected pboview, and "applied" properties, then it finally applied it to all .pbo files!!! Now I don't know if this is because it needed pboview.exe to open up a few (hundred) pbo's first or not.

BTW this was with 64Bit windows 7 RTM not RC as well.
